Lyrics for Champagne Supernova as interpreted by kevin

Champagne Supernova Lyrics
How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova in the sky

Wake up the dawn and ask her why
A dreamer dreams she never dies
Wipe that tear away now from your eye
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

'cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
Slowly walking down the hall
Faster than a cannon ball
Where were you while we were getting high?

Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky
Some day you will find me
Caught beneath a landslide
In a champagne supernova
A champagne supernova

'cause people believe that they're
Gonna get away for the summer
But you and I, we'll never die
The world's still spinning round
We don't know why
Why, why, why, why

How many special people change
How many lives are living strange
Where were you while we were getting high?
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high
We were getting high

You know, JumpyJack is right in a way. Alot of Noel Gallgher's songs are quite meaningless, but for some reason I really like Oasis. I just think he is a songwriter who doesn't have much to say, but really likes to write songs, so he just pulls stuff out of his ass. You can't blame him.
As for this song.....there are many good lines but they are not tied together to make any sense, but who cares because there is no rule saying songs have to be about something all the time. So just sit back, get stoned, relax, and listen.

You've got a point Serge. Especially about the sit back and get stoned part. It just bothers me a lot that morons like the Gallaghers (and there are hundreds of other examples besides them) try to (and usually successfully) pass off their lyrics as something important, thereby insulting the intelligence of anyone who sees through their BS. Anyways--time for a fattie (:

Right im listning the the best song Oasis ever made right now, Champagne Supernova. I havnt got a fukin clue what most of it means but the chorus seems so simple to me, one day some one will find em dead, they'll be in a 'Champagne Supernova', otherwise known as heavan, 'why why why' is like people askin the question y did they die, and where were u while we were gettin high may mean that y wernt u there to save me frm my overdose, the hall could be the thing where u walk towards the light, and he's walking towards it slowly but it coming at him so fast, im writing each meaning as im listninmg to the line, so thats my view probly a loud of bollocks. P.S I applaud u Fanko never thought of listning to it while i was high, i occasuionally do weed and it more important that moist stuff i do, great song the Gallaghers are legends.

Hey Red army. Oasis is a good band, well, actually they were pretty great, but you have to admit they are losing their touch, and the same goes with Radiohead. It is the same with all bands. They do leave a legacy that is something grand, but evantually the song machine starts to get rusty. Now that I am older they just don't have the same effect. Oasis and Radiohead were just my baptism into the world of good music, but since then I have found way better artists. Now when I listen to radiohead it sounds like some different mutation of teenage angst, I guess you could say it is the "more" intelligent teenage angst, but what's the point because your just post another message that says Oasis and Radiohead are great without even letting anything I have said soak in.

Pardon me everyone. The last message was quite off topic. Will someone please just talk about the damn song, and forget about all the other bullshit.

serge 67 as everyone has a right to their own opinion, let me just say that i believe that radiohead have grown so much as a band. Each album just shows so much more maturity and depth. Oasis on the other hand were good. The popularity just got to their heads. But your right lets stay on the topic which is the song right

I think the song to all of us has some kind of nostalgic value. I mean, from that explanation by Noel, he got the lyrics from the song from his own personal experiences, so I'm sure it brings back memories for him, as well. It does the same for me because I remember listening to it as a kid all the time and not knowing a thing about it (heh, remember how the radio stations would blank out the word "high?"). And a side note to all of those, including myself, who were desenheartened by Noel's explanation, I've always been taught that no matter what the artist's or poet's original intentions were for the song, it's up to us, the audience, to decide the interpretation and to delve deeper into the work. Much like nietzsche_66, I can't quite describe what the song means to me, but I definately know that I understand it.

This was the song that got me into Oasis, I liked them but this song made me a proper fan!

Noel's house was also called "Supernova Heights", wonder if "where were you while we were getting high?" is meant to work on 2 levels - with the name of his house inspiring him?

this song is about how the major choices you make cant be wate to be made....because you dont have all the time in the world...also its the best song in the world because they played it on the O.C when everything is resolved and it was episode in the world!

i realize that Noel contends that the song doesnt mean anything, but when i listen to this song it definately seems to be deliberately portraying a situation. it seems to me that he's singing about how as time goes on, people change and grow distant. and its about the people that he neglected while he was using drugs. 'slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball' means that time seems to pass so slowly, but then you look back and realized how fast it's gone by. especially if you were 'getting high'.

I have a question: for those of you who have seen the music video, the long sustained part of the song is portrayed by some kind of bright orange instrument that looks like a cross between a kazoo and a keyboard. Does anyone know what this could be, or, if this isn't a real instrument, do you know what makes that amazing sustained note in the background of the song? Its played softly in the beginning and the end, and right after the first set of "champagne supernova, in the sky" it is very apparent, switching between two notes. What is this thing? I suspect an Ebow, but I'm not sure.

GREAT song. not sure what it means. they were probably drunk, and high all at the same time and in a hotel or apartment. but the song itself is great.

@ EzkYT:

The instrument they use in the end is a melodica (that's the dutch name anyway...). It's actually a toy instrument that you can buy at any toystore. Imagine a whistle with pianokeys, that's it...

About the song:
When you used some drugs, and play this song on a high-end audiosystem with the volumelevels at 10 its killing... Simply a great rush of sounds that flows over you, let it come and take you... Even without drugs ;)

i don't believe that any artists writes a song without a meaning - a lot of artists seem to prefer not to reveal the meaning behind the songs - it's easy to hide behind a wall of mystique than to open yourself up to criticism

i think champagne supernova may be about overdosing

i never really thought about it being about drugs. always saw it more in a sence of being about youth. when they would get that high just from being alive. 'slowly walking down the hall' as in school. 'how many special people change' like the kids you once thought you knew changed and moved on without a doubt in their minds about what you would feel. the people you loved and lived for. 'where were you while we were getting high' not having to do so much with drugs, but more so with the meaning behind it: where were you while we were having the best time of our lives? when all the memories happend? we missed you. and then about the champagne supernova in the sky, i think it means that they will always have a heaven. and that because that person left them, they will only look back and regret not being in that heaven with them. ' a dreamer dreams she never dies' all having to do with childhood. always dreaming. and never looking to what will come. only what is going on right now. i feel it's about teenage years and childhood. missing out on things because you wanted to be cool. that's just me.

This song makes me think of enjoying yourself after you've had a load of exams or something, like 'champagne supernova' is a science reference and one day you might be caught under all the work, like a 'landslide'. 'Where were you while we were getting high' is like people asking each other to just enjoy themselves.
