Lyrics for Honour as interpreted by Mopnugget

Honour Lyrics
Passive field, January two thousand and twelve.
A nation that stands alone.
Cold voices, faces pale, gathered unto their judgment day.

Such pride remains unbroken.
Such words remain unspoken.
Just mothers to stand in vain and cry.
Tears and medals in the rain.

Shall I recall when justice did prevail?
No reason to be found why reason did fail.
The all clear resounding.
The way was clear to rebuild this land.

Shall I call on you to guide me well,
To see our hopes and dreams fulfilled?
On this day of our ascension.

Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for.
For our spirit and laws and ways.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.
For heaven or hell we shall not wait.

Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament its aged slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
On this day in this stone chamber?

The all clear resounding.
The way was clear to rebuild this land.
Shall I call on you to guide me well.
To see our hopes and dreams fulfilled.
On this day of our ascension
On this day we praise the fallen.

Stand your ground, this is what we are fighting for.
For our spirit and laws and ways.
Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war.
For heaven or hell we shall not wait.

Shall I think of honour as lies
Or lament it's aged slow demise?
Shall I stand as a total stranger
On this day in this stone chamber?

This is not about the Nostradamus/Mayan/I-Ching end of the world. Kinda hard to fight a battle when the world is destroyed. Ronan has said he chose the date at random before everyone started making a big deal out of it.

Honour is about honoring those who died defending their country, way of life, cultural heritage, etc. That while war is terrible, it is necessary at times, and that actions taken can be honorable. It makes me think about the English defending their land from the invading Normans (who incidentally invaded and destroyed most of the English culture anyways).

I feel fireinthedawn is right on the arrow with the concept of a third force. I have noticed a lot of significance placed around the number 3, and sometimes even 9 in VNV Nation's music, artwork, and other little things.
Examples include:

VNV Nation is 9 letters;

V N V is 3 letters;

Advance and Follow is 3 words;

The Cover of Matter and Form depicts two opposing alchemical symbols, with the VNV Logo in between, balancing them both;

Matter and Form is 3 words;

The Cover of Empires is divided into three separate regions, with 3 letters out of 'VNV Nation" spread across each segment, Also, the cover has two "blue" flames, one Red Flame, the two empty blue spaces, the empty black space, and the VNV Nation and Empires title, and the VNV Logo, a total of 9 separate pieces;

There are 3 Beloved EPs (the 3rd was a 12 inch containing 4 mixes by Hiver and Hammer, which can be seen on the VNV Nation Discography on their website);

There are 9 variant mixes of Beloved available, assuming you do not count either the Radio edit or Futureperfect version;

Beloved.1 contains 3 separate mixes of Beloved;

Genesis.1 and Genesis.2 both contain 3 variant mixes of Genesis;

Standing EP and Burning Empires both depict 3 bars of light descending towards the VNV Nation logo, and Standing EP contains 3 mixes of Standing;

Darkangel contains 3 tracks, and the artwork has 9 lines or objects in orange;

darkangel is 9 letters;

There are 3 mixes of Darkange by VNV Nationl: The original, Gabriel, and Azrael; (there is, however, the 4th "Apocalyptic Mix" by Das Ich)

Solitary EP contains 3 mixes of Solitary;

The "I Want Justice" design at the bottom of their website is 3 words.

I realize some of this may be coincidence, but I hope someone finds this helpful. All of this can be proven via the VNV Nation Website

Quote from a VNV Nation interview with Ronan Harris.

"I mean there have been songs since I feel like a victory, but here I go using militaristic terminology, but the album was not about war and the people saw it like that, it’s like people who took Honor as a war song. Honor’s an anti-war song, it’s about a veteran if you will, because it’s a long dissertation. I didn’t ever want to write a simplistic album. It’s a long dissertation to explain to people what that metaphor, how it was being used. Like, one track, track 11 is a minute’s silence, it’s a symbolism of remembrance, because when on the 11th of November at eleven minutes passed eleven in most allied countries, there was a minute’s silence to remember the dead. It was called Schweigeminute because Germans, that's what they call a minute’s silence, they don’t have it at eleven minutes passed eleven on 11th November because they're, you know, dissuaded from honoring the war dead. To me it was a parallel between all the people I know who have struggled to be who they are and lost and failed."

this is an older song by vnv that got released in 1999.
It seems to be inspired by Shakespeare's Julius Caesar combined with the ides of the struggles of wars and a date thrown in around the year ending the of Mayan calender.

waldemar is an idiot, and vnv nation IS NOT of what waldemar is about.

After taking everything in. Could this be Ronan's prediction? A huge war breaking out in the January of 2012. Im probably just thinking crazy. But maybe.

Ha ha,you maybe fuckin imagine my face WITH NO EMOTIONS NOW...damn me,DO YOU REALLY THINK I CONSIDER VNV NATION AS STRAIGHT PROPAGANDA OF NS?!VNV NATION IS A METAPHOR OF EXPRESSION,and everyone can find here something close to his views-f.ex.,WP ideas,as for me...I'm just very sorry than so many people like you are so fuckin infested by democrazy virus and so fear of totalitarian ideals of racial autocratic power.Hey,damn me,what a"song about aggressive militaristic tactics", Nailandteeth?!AGGRESSION will be later-now it's time to defend the land.Or you forgot Paris autumn 2005?

Actually, Nailandteeth, I can sort of interpret Dark Angel as Adolf Hitler's struggle for power, too, but it's definitely not a band about white power - just whenever you hear a song about aggressive militaristic tactics with no pity or sympathy for anyone you automatically either think Nazi Germany or Bush America.

I have to agree with fireinthedawn, it's about a third side, as just about all of VNV's music about spirituality is. The side that embraces the reality of Free Will. The side that realizes that three things are sacred; Truth, Love, and Self.

Herr Waldemar,a Worshipper of Ancient Aryan Gods,an officer of PROTIVOSTOJANIE Sturmbattalion heiling from Ukraine...This is one of my fave songs,thus I can add:such a Skaldhymn can be gladly sung even by mightest of National Socialist Black Metal hordes like GRAVELAND,NOKTURNAL MORTUM or so...I hope everyone got clear the meaning-concept of Landvaettir,defence of Our Aryan Expance.Let our Horde will be last standing upon the European Battleground in the moment when all foes shall be food for the ravens...

i've had many many ideas come to me thinking of this song. it *is* actually my favorite song ever by VNV. i have one vision with it - without getting all into detail - my apocolyptic side of me likes to think of it being about the 3rd world war and the period it is all 'supposed' to start taking place is in this century - close to the time of 2012 which as said above, is thought to be the 'end' of the Mayan calendar, as well as a significant year noted in other ancient cultures. i think this period of time will be taken advantage of to completely throw religion against religion, man against man, man against earth - man against himself, all in the name of greed and to determine which country, leader, or group of people will dominate in the end.

OK! now for my less 'end of the world' theory - it reminds me of right now and how i feel about the US/Iraq war - based on lies, greed, deception - in the name of freedom, completely insulting our troops' courage to be in the miliatary and denegrating their honour. they have been sent on a mission that is completely unnecessary and dying for no reason. (that of course is not what this is about, it was written wayyyy before the Iraq war, just another one of my relations to it)

ok, and the 3rd is simple: I HATE WAR.

ok, done now.

To me none of these definitons go nearly far enough. everything on the praise the fallen album has to be taken into account with the rest of the cd. That's already been mentioned though. Especially when mixing this one with solitude I get the impression that VNV isn't preaching just the battle of good and evil-but a whole third front which acts against both of them. All i've heard from his desire to forget the past seems to scream that all leaders (including god) who have come before us have misguided us...look at where he says "for heaven or hell we shall not wait." this song is all about taking salvation into your own hands, and not letting god or the devil dictate that to you. To not do this would be a slap in the face to all of those who died for freedom, because with god there is no freedom, we will have our fate's decided for us. He's saying that we are beyond god to truely fix things the way we want it to be fixed. this song is all about what happens as the end begins as prophecizded in 2012. all of this album very lightly seems to hint on a human driven resistance to both god and satan, though he never seems to come out directly and say it.

2012 December 21st (or some say 23rd others say 27th) is when the longcount Mayan calendar runs out, there is also connections that have tied it to the i-ching and other ancient time telling techniques.

Me this line flashes me to the supercontext that The Invisibles refers to. Robert Anton Wilson predicts that more changes will occur in 2012 than the rest of humanity has experienced combined, time and evolution speeding up to a fever pitch. And in january 2012 we will be able to see the oncoming blitzkrieg of change, some will have fear, some hope others acceptance, at least it should not be boring.
