Hey Mr. Chips
How's the wife?
And are the kids still poison?
Do you still eat them?

Been under the gun
Been running the gun
Say how'd this world get so fucking fun all of a sudden?
(All of a sudden)

Here's a quarter for the phone
Why don't you call someone and find out how it is we can all belong to something that no one wants any part of?
One day you'll wake up
And they'll be

Advertising on police cars
And your death will sell you out as someone smart
Somewhat smart
Baby, don't get out of bed

Just lay back down your pretty head
They're advertising on police cars
Police cars
Police cars

Hey, Mr. Chips
Had me a notion
Like a burning sky dropped to the ocean
A bitter pill

Is it better still
To lay undone your guts for show?
To reconstruct the song of your bones?
To turn it up?

When it calls to you will you wake up?
They're

Advertising on police cars
And your death will sell you out as someone smart
Somewhat smart
Baby, don't get out of bed

Just lay back down your pretty head
They're advertising on police cars
Police cars
Police cars

General Comment:Yeah it's definitly "to reconstruct the song of your bones."
My guess is that it is a reference to one of Matthew Good's (and mine) favorite novels: Hard-Boiled Wonderland & the End of the World by Haruki Murakami.
In it there is a scientist who discovers that all bones emit sounds, and with this discovery is able to turn up and down the volume of all things.

General Comment:i always hear the part after Mr. Chips "to reconstruct the song of your bones" it makes sense because the song of your bones could mean your "true calling" or what it is in life that's most important...and when you hear it, will you recognize it? will you take action on it? or will you just give up and let this huge thing take over that you're a part of but didn't ever want to be. kinda like huge corporations

General Comment:I love the acoustic version from Rooms. I think it's better than the original, because the acoustic fits so well.

General Comment:This song... Man, this song resolved my eternal dilemma of picking a favorite band when asked. I used to always say I couldn't pick just one favorite, and ended up spurting dozens of names, forgetting half those I meant to mention. I know now, without the trace of a doubt, that Matthew Good really *is* my one and only favorite artist.
