Lyrics for Arclight as interpreted by Mopnugget

Arclight Lyrics
At first light lay proud foundations.
Sense the greatness that before you unfolds.
Seek no more for hollow answers.
Answers that lay within you all along.
Farewell to dawns seen through saddened eyes.
Farewell to pasts to sorrows chained.
Forget your fears.
You will have everything.
You will be strong and want no more.
You'll be adored.
You will have everything.
Forget your fears and want no more.

This is my favorite song by vnv nation. It conveys such an incredible message, and it's filled with such hopefullness and positivity. At first light of every day starts a new beginning, and the opportunity to break away from fears, darkness and sorrow into light and greatness

I totally agree with you, this is one of my favorites by vnv. It's one of those where you just want to go out into an open field and sing it into the sky. :)

Amen to the above. If you've listened to this song at sunrise then you will totally understand what it is all about.

That moment of being totally unaware of yourself, your breathing, of anything else that is going on around you, feeling out of time and wihtout being corny at One with everything.

Great song.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about - I can certainly see how some of the lines could be taken as positive and uplifting, but listening to the tone of the song it seems to convey almost the opposite message. The first two lines remind me of Ozymandias by Shelly more than anything, and the rest seems only positive in the same way as Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. Am I alone in feeling this?

I'm surprised no one has noticed that the song is called Arclight, so really its the history of the Empire that grew and fell in the songs earlier in the album.

Here is my understanding of this song:

The "Arclight" is the dazzling white light at the end of a tunnel, that people who've had near-death-experiences report seeing. It sets the scene for the song as being about the journey or release from painful end-of-life to the merciful release of heaven.

Although this song is ostensibly one of hope, being an atheist I find it incredibly sad, to the point of tears.

Some bunny rabbit owners have this story wherein, when their bunny dies, it crosses the "Rainbow Bridge" to a kind of bunny heaven, and its tired, old body is rejuvenated to perfect health, and the bunny joins all the other "Bridge Bunnies", dancing, hopping, binkying, in perfect happiness.

Well, that idea alone moves me to tears. When I hear Arclight, and it says "You will be strong and want no more", it reminds me of the bunny Rainbow Bridge story and I just lose it totally. I wish the bunnies saw the arclight went to a land of happiness and renewed health, and an atmosphere of love, as the song describes, but as much as I want to, I cannot believe it.

This is a sad, but very beautiful song.

I am a scriptorian, meaning I study scripture. This song has links to the Book of Revelations in the Bible. I do not worship the Bible, since it has nearly become the God of the Christian World. I know that God has done more. This song, in a way, depending of course on how one personally looks at it, speaks of promises and rewards to those faithful. The definition of Arclight pertaining to physisists is light when electric current flows across the gap between two electrodes. I do like your idea, Fleetie, because this song has an immortal ring to it, hinting at a heaven that awaits us. Revelations20:4 and 21:7 with Matthew6:33 and 25:21, Daniel 4:31 (one of my favortites) and look up, if you can find it, some know it, The Book of Abraham along with Alma40:21-25. Seek and ye shall find. Seek first The Kingdom of God its righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. I hope you begin to see that what was thought, written, said and done over 2000 years ago still has meaning today. You all are great for listening to VNV Nation in the first place. Shine on.

I was introduced to vnv nation after my divorce and the very first song I ever heard was dark angel which was extreamly deep for me. Then when I was finally getting into recovery from a 15 year drug addiction Arclight is the song that changed my life completly and honestly saved it. It was the first thing to give me hope and a foundation to rebuild my life from. I have shared these song lyrics with many other addicts and was impressed to see how it had the same impact on there lives. It seemed to give us a light at the end of the tunnel
