Even though I'll never need her,
even though she's only giving me pain,
I'll be on my knees to feed her,
spend a day to make her smile again
Even though I'll never need her,
even though she's only giving me pain
As the world is soft around her,
leaving me with nothing to disdain.

Even though I'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
I am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe and sound.
Even though I'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
I am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe from harm.

The sun sets on the war,
the day breaks and everything is new...

General Comment:I think that it is a song about a guy who loves a girl deeply and unquestionably. He, of course, knows that she might not be "the one" or "the only one", as "Even though I'll never need her" points us out, but he cannot help himself - at the time she's the only one he loves, the one he would do anything to make her happy. The one he loves like no other before.

The guy is perfectly aware that the girl does not love him and probably will never do. However, he cares for her, he protects her, he does all those little things she might not even notice just to make her life easier, safer. He does so at his own expense, may it be time, effort, money, you name it. However, it is the price he's more than ready to pay to see her smiling and happy. Even though she might not credit him for her happiness.

The line "even though she's only giving me pain" suggest that the girl does not care for him very much - not necessarily abuse him, but does not notice all those little things or take them for granted, which, of course, is very painful. It wouldn't surprise me if she loved another man as well.

I interpret the last line as a hint of hope that maybe.... someday.

However, it is a very sad and heartbreaking song. Simple yet so grand. Definitely one of the top KoC songs, probably one of the top songs I have heard yet.

My Interpretation:I think this song might be about a teenage daughter. "Even though shes only causing me pain, Ill be on my feet to find her." and later "Ill be on my knees to feed her"
Teenagers seem to think they don't need their parents but they do.
I interpret this song as being a parent singing about their teenage child whom does not think they need their parents but the parent goes after them and reals them in anyhow.

My Interpretation:Personally, I think the female character is somebody with Alzheimer's or something the like. She is in a nursing home (hence "the world is soft around her") and technically not the responsibility of the main character, but she still means enough to him to go visit and care for her (she may be his mother, for instance).
It also explains the last line: "the day breaks and everything is new", which is literally the case for people with severe Alzheimer's disease.

General Comment:This song is simple to understand, it is beautiful while melancholy.

It is about true unconditional love in the direction of a girl who frequently subjects him to heartache, angst, pain etc. through her terrible decisions or situations she may be "stuck" in. I don't feel its a one way type of love though.

"Even though I'll never need her,
even though she's only giving me pain,
I'll be on my knees to feed her,
spend a day to make her smile again"

Perhaps he is trying to justify his efforts by admitting he doesnt need her to us...but hes showing that he still and always will love her unconditionally. She has made some terrible choices...and he worries about her. He wants her to be happy even at the expense of himself. He is willing to sacrifice himself in order to save her.

"Even though I'll never need her,
even though she's only giving me pain
As the world is soft around her,
leaving me with nothing to disdain."

Again hes acknowledging he understands the points of view in this situation...but he can and will, at the expense of himself give her a fresh start to a new day and a new life.

"Even though I'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
I am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe and sound.

Even though I'm not her minder,
even though she doesn't want me around,
I am on my feet to find her,
to make sure that she is safe from harm."

This screams out to me drug addiction as if the girl is into something she is not proud of and would like to keep a secret...she doesn't want him around but she needs him around. He knows of her weaknesses and still digs down to find the energy/motivation to grant him solace that at the end of the day, she is out of harms way...maybe even protecting her from herself.

"The sun sets on the war,
the day breaks and everything is new..."

the end of the first paragraph hints/leads into this statement...he is willing to do whatever it takes, regardless of how much it may hurt him to give her a fresh start...hes fought his battle for the day and the on-going battle resumes.

I can relate to this song because of a situation I've been in my entire life and I am still in even today. This girl has been the absolute love of my life for over 15 years...I'm nearly 29 as of right now.

General Comment:Truly beautiful. The guitar playing is perfect and simplistic, yet manages to create different moods or sections through the song, each corresponding with the lyrics. The words "The sun sets on the war,
the day breaks and everything is new." are given perfect meaning by the beautiful, soft and pure voices that KoC have. The first time I heard the song and the concluding line was sung, it simply resonated deep inside my mind and soul in a way that somehow made perfect sense. And I guess that's pretty much the only real way to judge whether music is truly good.

General Comment:this is a great song. for me it is about caring for somebody and getting nothing in return. I can totally relate to this song, cause I was in a very disfunctional relationship and the lyrics describe it very well. the creaziest thing was that the other person was hopelesly in love with sb else and felt the same for sb else.

General Comment:The song is about unconditional love. Though I relate quite strongly to it on a slightly different level, reminds me of a very co-dependent relationship I was in with a heroin addict. Being there and doing all you can, sacrificing yourself for a tragic figure despite a very poor outlook.
