  This song mirrors 2008's hungry ghost and I think both are a comment on the worlds growing worship of materialism, you arent anyone unless you have everything

  He wants any reason to keep himself alive, to give himself a reason to live. He has tried everything, and he's running out of things to do. He just can't stop finding things that just fail in the end.
  
  "Planning all my days away
  But never finding ways to stay"
  Trying to find all these things to do to keep himself away, but he's running out of reasons to keep himself alive.
  
  "Or ever feel enough today
  Tomorrow must be more"
  It doesn't feel real, or like it's happening. Tomorrow must be better, tomorrow must have more... or else what?
  
  "I want the sky to fall in
  I want lightning and thunder
  I want blood instead of rain"
  All things of destruction. His world falling to pieces perhaps?
  
  "I want the world to make me wonder
  I want to walk on water
  Take a trip to the moon"
  He wants things to make him think, to make him feel real.
  Also, this and the above lyrics all have something to do with nature: the sky, lightning and thunder, rain, the world, water, moon. All the things he want are not material things, he want something REAL.
  
  "Give me all this and give me it soon"
  He needs it soon, or else everything is going to fall to pieces.
  
  "But however hard i want
  I know deep down inside
  I'll never really get more hope
  Or any more time"
  Makes me think that whatever he wants, maybe it's not worth it.
  Maybe nothing is worth it. Nothing is worth doing, or working for. So why try.
  Why try anything. It doesn't add up to anything in the end.
  There isn't any hope in anything anymore, or any more time. His time in this world is running out.
  But maybe that's just how I am at the moment.

  General Comment:i think this song is about... how you want so many things, and still, you'll never get enough. you won't be satisfied.
  
  like the line "but however hard i want, i know deep down inside i'll never really get more hope or any more time..." it sounds like he's saying with all the things you want, you might not get any good out of it.
  
  that's what i always thought it meant.

  General Comment:As a devoted fan of the Cure, this song means an awful lot to me. Now, I am aware that songs may have just one literal meaning (depending on the artist), such as a specific wartime event, or a known ex-lover, or the birth of the writer's child, but no one ever takes into consideration that the best songs are of a general meaning that ANYONE can identify with. This is perhaps my favorite example of just that. When I hear this song--Robert's strained voice coinciding with the perfect notes from the instruments, just the right amount of cymbal and snare--it gives me an awesome feeling of self-pity and guilt and despair...pretty much all those emotions associated with depressed moods. I can hear this song and feel childish and petty again--no sense in quoting the first half of the song--and immediately I feel that same sense of self sabotage and anger that one get's when you reach the age where you realize you can't have it all. I think this feeling comes and goes throughout your life and in any aspect of life, be it money or love or drugs or head...it's just a song meant to make the listener feel the way that the writer did at that point. Isn't music really just a way of expressing your thoughts and feelings? and not necessarily a narrative?

  General Comment:Quite clearly this song, as a few other Cure songs are, is about "always wanting more". You can never be satisfied, sated, or otherwise content, you need to have MORE, even to the detriment of your own happiness. The theme runs through the whole WMS album.

  General Comment:i love this song... and i think it's mainly because it's almost self-defeating. like he has enough guts to want something- "planning all my days away"- but everything's working against him to figure it all out. like you want all of these different things, from material things to things like love and "to wonder" but agh! it can't happen because there's all this other stuff you have to do that you don't think you should have to do but you have to do anyway; and then once you get all that finished, you have to recuperate or sleep or something and keep yourself physically alive and then by the time that's all done, you have to start over with the shit again. there's never time to get anything you want to do done. and there really is no hope and no time and then that depresses you and then you just can't get anything done and the cycle starts all over again.... like wanting isn't enough and wanting and living in a surreal world doesn't help get the stuff you care about done either.... *sigh*... i think i know too much about this cycle.... :)
