Broken down, feeling naked
Leaving me unfulfilled
Promising compromise
Championing mediocrity

Time and time again
What you said ain't what you mean
Even if all my bones are broken
I will drag myself back from the edge to

Kill the King, The King is dead, Long live the King

Kill the King, The King is dead, Long live the
King,
I am the King, God save the King

Kill the King, The King is dead
I am the King, Long live the King
Kill the King, The King is dead
I am the King, Long live the King

I reveal a deceiver
In the highest seat in the land
His idle hands the Devil's workshop
Generate more smoke than heat

Time and time again
What you said ain't what you mean
Even if all my bones are broken
I will drag myself back from the edge to

Kill the King, The King is dead, Long live the King

Kill the King, The King is dead, Long live the
King,
I am the King, God save the King

Kill the King, The King is dead
I am the King, Long live the King
Kill the King, The King is dead
I am the King, Long live the King

A new precedent in pain, a new precedent in pain
Mankind is blown to dust, mankind is blown to dust
An explosion of the Brain, an explosion of the
Brain
Spontaneously combust, spontaneously combust

Kill the King, The King is dead, Long live the
King,
I am the King
Kill the King, I, The King is dead, I am, Long live
the King,
I am the King
Kill the King, I, The King is dead, I am, Long live
the King,
I am the King
Kill the King, I, The King is dead, I am, Long live
the King,
I am the King

General Comment:As many have said they think the song is about Anarchy, I think so to. I think specifically the chorus gives this away, most anarchists believe in the lack of the state and forms of control/power in this case a monarchy. The reference to anarchism: 'Kill the King, The king is dead, Long live the king.' Removing the form of power. To those confused by the line 'I am the king' I believe this is relating to the anarchist ideology of individualism, that you are your own ruler and that no external control is needed over the individual. So now the king is gone and freedom reigns everyone is their own king!

General Comment:Because that's what Mr. Mustaine does Axington, he has lyrics that make you think... usually. They're politically liberal and violent.

I know in some cases you don't have to see throught the lines (Chorus of Symphony of Destruction and most of Peace Sells in example) but you get more out of it if he uses metaphores than "Hey, I killed the king... so I sang about it"

General Comment:"well, i have a different view, when i hear the chorus, i think that there is this girl which he really loves but she is already in a relationship so he wants to "kill the king" and take his place by her side. my view. but this was before i looked at what others thought. "

    -Bollocks.
Why does somebody always say that a song is about a relationship, or politics, or some shit.
It isn't. I think this song could just be about "Killing the King", nothing more, nothing less.

He's not keen on the king, so he kills him. Then writes an awesome song about it, aptly named "Kill the King".

General Comment:the songs more about the libertarian ideal of personal responsibility. Rid yourself of the ones who tell you how to think, and become your own king

General Comment:i don't think it's as simple as anarchy, i think it's about the corruption of power, that he kills the king, only to become the king himself. he sees corruption in a powerful figure (a politician, maybe the president), overthrows them, then becomes just like them. i think the message is not to let power be given to one man alone.

General Comment:This is the first song that I heard by Megadeth. I fell in love with this song and now Megadeth is my favorite band.

I believe this is about how in Medieval times, relatives would kill off family members to be king, only to be killed by another family member who wanted the throne just as much.
