Only yesterday they told me you were gone
All these normal people, will I find another one?
Monkey on my back, aching in my bones
I forgot you said "One day you'll walk alone"
I said I need you, does that make me wrong?
Am I a weak man, are you feeling strong?
My heart was blackened, it's bloody red
A hole in my heart, a hole in my head!
Who will help me up?
Where's the helping hand?
Will you turn on me?
Is this my final stand?
In a dream I cannot see
Tangled abstract fallacy
Random turmoil builds in me
I'm addicted to chaos
Light shined on my path
Turn bad days into good
Turn breakdowns into blocks, I smashed 'em 'cause I could
My brain was labored, my head would spin
Don't let me down, don't give up, don't give in
The rain comes down, cold wind blows
The plans we made are back up on the road
Turn up my collar, welcome the unknown
Remember that you said
"One day you'll walk alone"

General Comment:Im addicted to ...Im addicted to...THIS SONG!!

One of the best Megadeth songs. Surprised it didnt make it on the Greatest Hits album.

Easily interpreted as a battle with drugs. But! The loss of a love certainly appies. There is certainly an undertone of sadness/depression.

More specifically, I think this guy has a chaotic personality that won't leave him alone. This gets in the way of his love. She knew it was going to happen, told him so. And one day it happened. She left, or killed herself. Then he was by himself to face the world while fighting throughts of suicide.

My Interpretation:what first came to my mind on hearing the song chorus ' In a dream i cannot see...........i'm addicted to chaos ' was that the 'guy' wants to fulfil his dream and work hard for it, but he is nt able to do it and is doing something else instead (like drugs) which he knows is destroying both him and his dreams. But he is not able to do anything about it as he is addicted to the thing he is doing(chaos).. but yes, the first para includes someone trying to help him who is now dead, or maybe he has left him due the chaos thing he cannot leave. just my opinion, i know the story is different :P

General Comment:Somebody up there asked about the line "monkey on my back".

It refers to drugs, of course. I think I first met the expression in William S. Burroughs's Naked Lunch. It is explained, that when you're addicted, it's like there's a monkey on your back that you have to feed constantly, or that wants a bit of everything you own, thus making your life harder. I'm not sure but it might as well mean that the monkey is pretty funny and entertaining for a while, but it wants more and more and gets more and more annoying, since you can't get rid of it.
The bottom line, it's definitely a metaphor for drugs.

General Comment:Up until last night, I always looked at this as just an average Megadeth song. Now though, I see it's more than that.

"Only yesterday they told me you were gone
All these normal people will I find another one?
Monkey on my back, aching in my bones
I forgot you said "One day you'll walk alone"
I said I need you, does that make me wrong?
Am I a weak man, are you feeling strong?
My heart was blackened, it's bloody red
A hole in my heart, a hole in my head?"
    --------

That's talking about an addict who had a friend that was helping him through it, and starting to turn him around. Suddenly, his friend died, and now he doesn't know what to do.

"In a dream I connot see
    Tangled abstract fallacy
    Random turmoil builds in me
    I'm addicted to chaos"
    --------
This shows that he's struggling after his friend's death, and starting to revert to his old addiction.

The last verse shows that he knows it's going to be a hard road ahead of him (My brain was labored, my head would spin, Don't let me down, don't give up, don't give in), but he knows that he can do it now.

I cant think of how he couldve wrote a song more perfect than this. Dave if you read this you are one of the most brilliant musicians to ever live and an inspiration to all.
