This song is just wonderful. I love the meaning behind the beautiful melody and lyrics.

My favourite part is

cause hes saying , good or bad, i can weather it cause youre what i need.

I agree with Cosmic Kisses, this song is about a newfound love... He's a little bit scared that she might hurt him, but at the same time he thinks she could really be the person he's been looking for ("maybe this time I could follow through, feel complete, stop paying dues").

I agree with all the people who said that this song is about new found love. the speaker says he's trying to figure out "this girl." While he's trying to figure out "this girl" he acknowledges that a new, rather destructive girl (like the hurricane lol), is slowly taking over his heart. Since the other girl that he couldn't be with is drifting farther away, he says: "So maybe i should stay/ and map around your world." I love how he uses the metaphor of the hurricane for the new found love. And yes, he is being hesitant about the new chick, but he's considering it haha. i LOVE THIS SONG!

I think this song has to do with a relationship between a guy and a girl that ended and then began again. And i think they get into a lot of arguments with each other. And when it says
--- So don't say "These currents are still killing me" -- i think it means that he doesnt want her to use the excuse of what happened in the past between them affect whats going on between them now. And they can't explain why they're still drawn to each other but they just are. And when it says :
So pull me under your weather patterns
Your cold fronts and the rain don't matter
Because a sun burn's what I needed. -- I think this means that he's saying that he needed to get hurt (sun burned ) in order to step back and realize how he really felt about her. So basically even though they fight a lot, he realizes that she can't help how she is, and he loves her for it anyway...or something idk. =)

^This whole part is like the eye of the storm in this song, it's the one stand-out slower, softer part and it makes her seem like a sweet girl and he's hopeful that he'll be able to "stop the rain from falling" and have a stable relationship....but it doesn't last and the chorus/storm comes back in

just so everybody knos andrew mcmahon is a lyrical genius but ive heard it wasnt actually him who wrote hurricane it was actually the lead guitarist who wrote it in college during his oceanography class

one of the most amazing songs ever by one of the most amazing bands ever. so sad that they are no longer.the lyrics really get to me especially when andrew, who is fcking JESUS says

i feel that this song is about a relationship between two people that just can't seem to get it together. they both obviously care a lot about each other but their relationship seems to destroy them everytime.

i think this is written in a 'starting all over' period of t he relationship when everything is so new and good but still incredibly confusing.

this song is about someone who the speaker likes but really doesnt understand. he thinks somethings about to happen with this girl but he doesnt want to give her too much attention and lose himself so he pretends as if she doesnt really esist. they know each other but she cant really see how much he likes her. he knows that she doesnt know how hellish shes making things for him but at the same time her ignorance is killing him. he doesnt like how she thinks things are bad for her but never turns around to see how diffiucult things are for him.

I agree that this song is about a rocky relationship. I think that maybe they both have some baggage, and she is too afraid that they won't work out together, but he wants to try anyway. i also think that the part about "standing there with your smile blinding etc." is about how she is trying to change herself so he can't see how she really is, so she's drifting away

this song is the ultimate thing to listen to when you're in love. its perfect. its not like "ohh your'e amazing baby you're my world" crap like that. it's real. it's saying that no matter what it's like, you'll stick around, because that person is worth "weathering the storm". which is the truth if you really care about someone.

My interpretation is that this guy had never really wanted to settle down with someone before. Maybe a one night stand kind of person most of the time, and then he meets someone, and everything changes, because he falls in love. There's also, within the song, the emotions of the fear of letting himself fall in love, and the doubts, and also of course, the bliss. It's amazing that they could include all of this in the song.
