Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live
They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Round here
Short people are just the same
As you and I
(a fool such as i)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(it's a wonderful world)
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love
They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That got beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
'round here
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live
They got little hands
And little eyes
And they walk around
Tellin' great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Round here
Short people are just the same
As you and I
(a fool such as i)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(it's a wonderful world)
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love
They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That got beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
'round here

Sadly, most people don't seem to posses the critical thinking skills required to understand many of Randy's songs. This has always given me mixed feelings about his songs. On the one hand, the fact that their meaning is lost on so many people is part of what makes them so dear to me. On the other hand, it can be frustrating because I think America would be such a better place if the messages of his songs were somehow communicated to the masses in a way they could understand them and ideally embrace them.
Just came across this website today, so that's why the delayed reply. Hope you're still livin to get it...
I just wanted to let u know that I feel you on this.
If this song (and others like it) were readily understood by the masses, there would be no such song to begin with because there would be no lunatics (or VERY few) from whose perspective to sing about.
And imho, Nate, I think the message in this song has been communicated to the masses (hatred, prejudice, and discrimination are wrong, & all people are of equal, human worth) but that a majority still cannot process it, let alone understand or embrace it.
But change is afoot...
May we keep livin to see it.

If we didn't have them, the average height would rise, and those of us in the middle would be the new short !!!
That's why we need short people.
anyway cant watch toystory without wanting to punch randy newman lol
But seriously, you people who think Randy Newman is actually prejudiced against short people got no reason to live.
(Randy)-Fat man with and his kids and dog.
Drove in through the morning fog.
Hey there Rover, come on over...
(Lois)-Well its nice to have a little music while we eat.(Spoken)
(Randy)-Red headed lady, Reaching for an apple.
Gonna take a bite, nope, nope.
She gonna breathe on it first, wipe it on her blouse.
She takes a bite.
Chews it once, twice, three times, four times, stops!
Saliva workin', takes a hard long look at Randy...
five times.
Fat old husband walking over.
(Lois)-Lets get the hell out of here.(Spoken)
(Randy)-Yeah, There walking down the road
Left foot,Right foot
Left foot,Right foot
Left foot (SMACK)
Supposedly Newman has said himself that the song can be interpreted as being about short-minded people. Negative people basically.
