I think this song is about a struggle to fit in.. Someone who is outcast from the "norm" and sacrifices his self worth and indivduality to be part of the pack.. Bad move.. but we've all been there.. It's called high school.

Well this was the first steps to a suicidal human. Just the way the lyrics starts off Im not like them , maybe he meant that he isnt like krist or dave that they are overawed by the rock world with money fame etc etc and kurt didnt fit into that circle, When he says "the sun is gone but I have a light" its a bit obvious his light was to go the the never never land of no return, and also the wya he says Im having fun , maybe he is saying that cause of the drugs , he was having fun and thats the only positive fun he had left was taking drugs. 2nd verse is saying My heart is broke but I Have some glue , yes he is maybe meaning that He has sad and depressed that the only way to solve it was heroin as he mentions well have a hangover , thats when ur going through withdrawal from hammer. Again suicide is mentioned when he says "the soul is cheap", Well thats my opinion to this song ...

I'm not sure what it means. I think it means that he hates his life, but the way for him to feel better is to do drugs.

it is about being different.

and it is about a person that is absolutely not satisfied with his life. depressing and "down-pushing" feelings are all what his life's about...and if he gets to know to wonderful feelings, just like love (isn't that, what it's all about?), which is a naturally thing for many people, who are not "different" just as he is, he thinks that he is somehow "dumb", that these aren't real things, he isn't experiencing this just because of his doubts about himself. he never got used to these things, probably because of his difference. many "normal" people (as they call themselves) change their boy-/girlfriends just like underpants and that's not what love is about for HIM.

kurt didnt hate life, he might have been a depressed person for a while there but he loved life. he was a silly guy and always joked around. im not totally sure what the song is about.maybe every1 is right, its about trying to fit in, but maybe its about trying to live life to the fullest extenct you can. have fun. fuck everything and everybody that dissagres. follow your dream and never let any1 talk u out of what u belive in. DONT CHANGE FOR ANYBODY!!!

This song is about how guys like Kurt and I get low self-esteem. When you feel this way all the time, it becomes noticeable. You start to walk with your head down, you slump in your seat, and you wear your hair in front of your eyes. Kurt chose drugs to help himself with his problem, and thats what this is all about.

obviously, it was written when he was in a good mood, and im positive that he never wanted to show that he was depressed like you do, but the song is very faithful in the fact that he has faith in drugs.

i think this song is great..although it probably has something to do with drugs..i think this song is about depression and trying to be wat ur not and trying to get over a broken heart....this is definetly one of my fav nirvana songs bc i can relate to it alot, except for the whole hangover thing

First of all, Kurt was murdered. Read the articles. The evidence is all there. There's no way he could have committed suicide. He was depressed and potentially suicidal but he was killed. The song is about not fitting in but fuck it cause he's happy anyway. But basically it's about how drugs offer an escape. Kurt didn't hate life. And he wasn't all that interested with fitting in, which was what made him awesome. He didn't buy into all the shit that the music industry offers. His "suicide" note was actually not a suicide note. It was explaining to fans why he was leaving the band.

This is my opinion, and this is how i feel towards the song. This song is my bond to kurt, I feel exactly how he did.

-he knows he's different, so he's doing drugs feel like everyone else

-a lighter for marijuana, something to stay up for, the high

the day is done, but i'm having fun
-being high is how he has fun

-by doing drugs he knows he's either dumb for doing them, or happy because of them

-he's high, he's happy

-he's sad and lonely, and drugs are his glue

kurt is my role model, although not a very good one. i respect him as an amazing musician, and i have never read any lyrics like his. his lyrics all have hidden meanings, he uses metaphors. email me with your thoughts on my song meanings, and yes he was killed. he attempted suicide one month before, heroin overdose.

Oh... plus White Castle was his favorite drug. (I believe it was used until '91, or something like that, as a vicodin type of drug. It is just like XTC. Heroin is more available, which is why he used it more.)

Homo? Just because someone has a different opinion from you, you're allowed to define their sexual preference? Kurt said himself that sexists, racists, HOMOPHOBICS, etc. should just quit listening.
NoseDragon... I think your interpretation was pretty good. And although there were some pretty damn obvious drug references, fuckyouall, I can see where you're coming from. hey floppy fuck, here's an idea, why don't you write what yoooou think this song means instead of harassing me. The whole point of this site is for people to share their opinion. oh yeah, and i've smoked plenty of pot, but i'm not in a competition and i am in no way proud of it. plus weed doesn't help you interpret songs. Oh yeah, kurt really didn't have many drug songs, but this is definately one of them.
