Lyrics for Astronomy as interpreted by elmoz

Astronomy Lyrics
Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Like gasoline and oil on a madman's face
Reason tends to fly away
Like lesser birds on the four winds
Like silver scraps in May
Now the sands become a crust
And most of you have gone away
Gone Away

Come Susie dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you'll want to know where wind comes from
Well it's never said at all
On the map that Carrie reads
Behind the clock back there you know
At the Four Winds Bar

Hey
Hey
Hey
Hey

Four doors at the Four Winds Bar
Two doors locked and windows barred
One door's let to take you in
The other one just mirrors it

Hey
Hey
Hey
Hey

In hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The Queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms
Yes a light that never, never warms
Yes a light that never, never warms
Never warms, never warms

The clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Miss Carrie Nurse and Susie dear
Find themselves at Four Winds Bar

It's the nexus of the crisis
And the origin of storms
Just the place to hopelessly
Encounter time and then came me

Hey
Hey
Hey
Hey

Call me Desdinova
Eternal light
These gravely digs of mine
Will surely prove a sight
And don't forget my dog
Fixed and consequent

Astronomy - a star
Astronomy - a star
Astronomy - a star
Astronomy - a star

This is quite simply one of the rockinest tunes that Metallica has recorded to this date. Ya ya, I know what you're going to say, it's a cover, it's post Master of Puppetz, I hear ya, but just listen to it...It's a greatly improved version on the original Blue Oyster Cult tune and when Het yells HEY! it just makes me go stir fuckin' crazy...

This is gotta be one of Metallica's 10 best songs even though they didn't write it. I love near the end right before Jaymz starts singing "Astronomy - a star" and there's the quiet part and then Lars goes boom boom boom boom boom boom boom boom babababababababa on the drums. I know it's not as good when you write it down but this song is so fucking awesome! The original is really boring. Hardly any drums, very little guitar, a wimpy singer, and just piano which reapeats to many times. Tallica did a great job rockin' this song up. Same with a lot of the other songs from Garage Inc.

I'm not all that big of a Metallica fan anymore. I was crazy about them when I was younger, and now I'm starting to get into their 1998 stuff and I'm loving it. Astronomy is by far my favourite, along with Turn the Page.

Actually, the Queen song "Stone Cold Crazy" was pretty close to the Tallica version, in style and loudness and thrashyness. Except Freddie Mercury's voice is not as strong as Jaymz's so natuarally the Tallica version sounds better. And maybe I should be posting this in that song...

I picture this song like Alice in Wonderland, but instead of searching for the queen of hearts and the rabbit, Susie is searching for the wind and she finds herself in a room with doors inside a map, crazy isn't it?

I thought that the BOC version was pretty crappy, cos the singer sounded like a wandering vagrant.Metallica kicked this song in the ass,and it became the best song on the album. It also showcases Jason ability to PLAY with the band, which is why I perfer his playing to Cliff's.It always sounded like Cliff was trying to outdo the band, but jason locks in so solidly.Great bass too.

alright - enough. this is really supposed to be about the MEANING of the song, not a place to talk about how cool it is. anyway, nobody seems to know the meaning, which surprises me. it's about how, during the Holocaust, Jews used the stars to navigate to hiding. the end.

this is a song about a girl about to be married, and she wants to fuck him first.
"Come Susie dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you'll want to know where wind comes from." She wants to know where winds come from? She wants her cherry popped.

willows closest, its not about Susie having sex with him before marriage.... its about Susie having sex with HER (i.e. the "narrator" is a woman) before she gets married.

This song is not about sex or the Haloucost. consider the songs origen, this is a BOC song. Someone on the forum for the origonal said that this song is an instalation of a story from the Imaginos album. Although I havent heard the origonal version, there is no way BOC could match Jamzs vocals, Hammets guitar, or Larss drums.

And desdinova, thanks for posting the EXACT some thing on both forums.

Basically Susie is confused and in the song she wants to bone a guy shes marrying, but ends up having a hot, bi-sexual encounter, Because of these lyrics...
"Miss Carrie nurse and Susie dear find themselves at four winds bar." I dont know, but from all my research on the song, this is what i came up with.

i think that metallica (BOC) is relating time to the timeline of man starting from the beginning of life. "Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst" meaning a new day has arrived, and The four winds bar meaning the paths of life. Its one big metaphor.
"Four doors at the Four Winds Bar
Two doors locked and windows barred
One door's let to take you in
The other one just mirrors it"
- what they were saying here was life has many roads and some are gonna be blocked so u have to take what life gives you and stay strong.
About the suzie part, they realated the whole shebam to a person and how she lives through this.
"nd you'll want to know where wind comes from" i think refers to every child asking their mother where do babies come from, honestly youve done it too.
"
In hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The Queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms
Yes a light that never, never warms
Yes a light that never, never warms
Never warms, never warms"
- this relates too the sins in everyones lives. The bad vibes and auras, and how even the most pure at heart are mirrored to hellish glare in inference.
"Call me Desdinova
Eternal light
These gravely digs of mine
Will surely prove a sight
And don't forget my dog
Fixed and consequent"
- the more i read the more i tend to find that this song is about what life is becoming. These gravely digs our ours is being dug out by the godly roles we've taken. Cloning, test tube babies, spaying, and fixed dogs left to their concequences. We are destinova but to which door did we take? (haha really deep eh?)
AS to the songs name... i think its relating to the fact that we are just a simple being in the universe revolving around and deriving from a single star. We are playing god yet we are no smaller than a star in the universe.
