Lyrics for (Trash, Trampoline and the) Party Girl as interpreted by archmastermind

(Trash, Trampoline and the) Party Girl Lyrics
I know a girl, a girl called Party, party girl
I know she wants more than a party, party girl
And she won't tell me her name, oh no, not me

I know a boy, a boy called Trash, trash can
I know he does all that he can, wham bam
And she won't tell me his name, oh no, not me

When I was three
I thought the world revolved around me
I was wrong
And so I sing now
And if you dance, then dance with me

I know a girl, a girl called Party, party girl
I know she wants more than a party, party girl

I know a boy, a boy called Trampoline
You know what I mean
I think I know what he wants
I think I know what he wants
I think I know what she wants
I think I know what she wants
I think I know what he wants

"I know she wants more than a party"
i think this song shows that it is immature to be selfish
"When I was three
I thought the world revolved around me "
then again this song is very ambiguos
"You know what I mean "
i think that may be a joke because this song does not seem to be very literal or self expanatory.
i don't have much idea on what this is about

It's actualy extremely self-explanatory, haha. It shouldn't take too big a stretch of the imagination to assume what the party girl wants, should it? And we certainly all know what he wants. And from that, we can conclude that the narrator does not want what they want to happen at all.

Just for the record, the party girl is The Edge's ex-wife, and Trash is Adam Clayton.

This song is a bit of a joke. If you watch the video footage of U2 Live at Red Rocks, Bono announces that it is a silly song that they wrote for a bit of a laugh! I love this song.

I'd have to say this is one of my favorite U2 songs. And very sad and truthful in the middle, even if it's meant to be a joke, at least to me.

One more thing to add on, it always sounded like he sang "...and so I shake now" and not "...and so I sing now". They both make sense in my mind, anyway, and how the word is sang.

I love this song, it always makes me smile. Especially the middle part when Bono sings: Padapadowa padowa dowa! It sounds so full of joy.
I don't know what this song's supposed to mean, but I would'nt be surprised if this indeed is just a fun song, as elkeaso said. It sounds like they're having a good time and I certainly always have a good time listening to it!

This is such a great song, the metaphors are perfect, but its still a pretty simple song. It can be taken lightly or heavily, either way its awesome.

ha ha ha...this song is full of joy! To constrat the atmosphere around the band at that time...

This is a reference to The Edge (trash), Adam Clayton (trampoline) and The edge's ex-wife (party girl). It looks like a song that was written on the way back home, though: it's simple and beautiful

I've never heard names associated with this song. Are you guys sure that Edge (or Adam) is trash, Adam is trampoline and Aislinn (Edge's then-wife) is party girl?

Adam is trash. That's what I've read in the books about U2.

I think the association with Edge's ex-wife comes from her bursting out of a birthday cake onstage in Cork in 1987, introduced by Bono as the 'Party Girl', which they then played. I seem to remember Bono admitting the song was about Adam. I always associated the Trashcan character with the one of the same name in Stephen King's The Stand.

I'm glad to see the boys are resurrecting this one here and there now. I saw an excellent YouTube video of them doing it for Bono's daughter Eve's birthday in Milan just a few weeks ago (July 2009). It has a whole other twist to it the way he performed it then.

Haven't we all been one of those characters at one time or another?

Simple yet layered...that's what I like about U2!
