This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
The man takes another bullet
He keeps them all within
He must seek no matter how it hurts
So don't fool again
He thinks the answer is cold and in his hand
He takes his medicine
The man takes another bullet
Yeah, he's been fooled again
Uncross your arms
Take and throw 'em to the cure, say
I do believe
Uncross your arms now, take 'em to and say
I do believe
Yeah, I do believe
Yeah, the lies tempt her and she follows
Again she lets him in
She must believe to fill the hollow
She's been fooled again
Uncross your arms
Take and throw 'em to the cure, say
I do believe
Uncross your arms now, take 'em to and say
I do believe
Oh yeah, I do believe, yeah yeah, oh
Betting on the cure
It must get better than this
Betting on the cure
Yeah, everyone's gotta have the sickness
'Cause everyone seems to need the cure
Precious cure
Betting on the cure
'Cause it must get better than this
Betting on the cure
Yeah, everyone's got to have the sickness
'Cause everyone seems to need the cure
Yeah, precious cure
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe
I do believe, I do believe, I do believe
Betting on the cure
Yeah, it must get better than this
Need to feel secure
Yeah, it's gotta get better than this, this, this
It must get better than this
Betting on the cure
Everyone's got to have the sickness
'Cause everyone seems to need the cure
I do believe, I do believe, I do believe
He keeps them all within
He must seek no matter how it hurts

okay... i compeltey disagree with everyone that has comment this song and i dont see how noone else has come to my conclusion cuase i have always thought this about the song i believe that this song is about religion
"Uncross your arms now Take them to it, say... I do believe Yeah, I do believe"
crossing your arms is a show of defiance he is saying stop being defiant and bring them to the cure 'religion' and in church people bring their hands up high when worshipping and singing for god they dont have them crossed and what do you think he wants you to say 'i do believe' in alcohal or drugs? like eveyone else has commented this song thinks it is about? no say i do believe in god
"Betting on the cure It must get better than this Betting on the cure Yeah, everyone's gotta to have the sickness Cause everyone seems to need the cure Precious cure"
your taking a bet on the cure that it is correct "it must get better than this" life must get better than earth everyone must have the 'sickness' cause every civalization has had a 'cure' it is "precious" because people die for their faith and eveyone has needed one to make sense of things
"The lie is tempted and she follows Again she hits him in She must believe to feel the hollow She's been fooled again"
the lie has been put out on her plate and she eats it and she must believe in it to feel that she is still hollow she has been fooled again; it is not the real cure
"The man takes another bullet He keeps them all within He must seek no matter how it hurts So don't fool again
He thinks the answer is cold and in his hand He takes his medicine The man takes another bullet Yeah! He's been fooled again"
he is trying to take the quick route to find out the truth he is trying to commit suicide to get to find out what is the truth "he must seek no matter how it hurts" he must seek out the answer no matter how much it is going to hurt killing himself or if it is true and he might go to hell for not believing or cause he commited suicide he just feels the need to find out the truth which one was the real cure and which ones were the poisons? "yeah hes been fooled again" he has possibly been fooled to kill himself to find out maybe someone has pushed him over the edge to try it
"The lie is tempted and she follows Again she hits him in She must believe to feel the hollow She's been fooled again"
again i bring you back to this for the line "again she hits him in" maybe that could mean she killed him because the man didnt have the strength to do it himself
"Need to feel secure"
we need to know what is going to happen so we wont be so afraid we need to feel secure that we know what is going to happen when we die
please comment my comment cause i havnt found anyone that agrees with me on any site and i wonder if anyone has the same thought; thanks
I disagree with your interpretation. wouldn't it be strange if the same band that has songs called like The God That Failed etc. now would do songs in which they worship the church?in addition hetfield had bad experiences with religion when he was a child.his parents died because of diseases they didn't want do fight with medicines because they were so religious that they thought god would cure them if they pray enough.well of course that didn't happen and hetfield had to watch them die without fighting against it because of church so i would guess that this is not a pro religion song
@theend: He is not telling that Metallica likes religion, he is saying the opposite. That's a good interpretation, both are. I see it more as religion even tho there are some lines that seem to imply that is about the use of drugs.
I think it's about suicide
He thinks the answers (to all his life problems) is cold and in his hands. (A gun) he takes in his medicine (drugs) the man takes another bullet (he shot himself and is doing self harm) And the cure is death, and throwing a person to it is making them think they should just kill themselves
Most likely about drinking and how it's considered a "cure" for your problems. "He thinks the answer is cold and in his hand."
The song is about the wish of getting a cure from a difficult situation
Even though this is on Metallica's worst album, I still think it's a pretty good song with a kick ass bass line. St. Anger better be good!
this song is fucking killer.
it is about how people think drink, drugs and suicide is the answer to all their problems but it does not solve anything.
it's about people who feel sorry for theirselves, when actually they don't have any problems. For example the culture of people who listen to bands like "green day" and believe it is cool to be depressed
These lyrics are so horribly inaccurate..
Why do people always call Load Metallicas worst album?
yea s anger wuz the worst not load... or reload
i think load was awesome. i haven't got st anger yet so i can't say it sucks.
