Lyrics for Disposable Heroes as interpreted by nikuku

Disposable Heroes Lyrics
Disposable Heroes

Bodies fill the fields I see, hungry heroes end
No one to play soldier now, no one to pretend
running blind through killing fields, bred to kill them all
Victim of what said should be
a servant `til I fall

Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away

Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman

Barking of machinegun fire, does nothing to me now
sounding of the clock that ticks, get used to it somehow
More a man, more stripes you bare, glory seeker trends
bodies fill the fields I see
the slaughter never ends

Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away

Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman

Why, Am I dying?
Kill, have no fear
Lie, live off lying
Hell, Hell is here

I was born for dying

Life planned out before my birth, nothing could I say
had no chance to see myself, molded day by day
Looking back I realize, nothing have I done
left to die with only friend
Alone I clench my gun

Soldier boy, made of clay
now an empty shell
twenty one, only son
but he served us well
Bred to kill, not to care
just do as we say
finished here, Greeting Death
he's yours to take away

Back to the front
you will do what I say, when I say
Back to the front
you will die when I say, you must die
Back to the front
you coward
you servant
you blindman

Back to the front.

In my point of view this song is made to show people what really happens in war it's not just shooting people like the media shows you (movies, games, ect.) and how this young man is basically in hell before he dies.

About how soldiers are pawns and cannon fodder that are easily disposed of and replaced, and the horror of war gradually turning to shell shock in the mind of a soldier, until he realizes that war has no winners.

Would have been obvious that the liberal moron weaklings would post their monotone bullshit. Many wars have been fought for good reason, granted some (vietnam) haven't...HOWEVER. This song isnt "anti-war" or "anti-patriot" Its about using your fucking brain, knowing when you're being used, and standing up against it, nothing wrong with defending oneself, it makes me wonder, if people like most of you ran America, Britain, etc, who would have stood up to the Nazi's? No one...you're like Chamberlain..if it wasn't for a real man like Churchill, who didn't take shit from the SS...we'd be speaking German right now, and tipping our hats to the Fuhrer...ignorant trash is what most of you are, you can't comprehend that sometimes, you have to do what it takes...its truly sad..im not "pro-War" but i'm not against using it when diplomacy is fucked right in the ass.

I think this song is either about the government telling you how great it is to be a soldier and become a hero, when all they're really doing is putting you out on the front lines to just get a war closer and closer to the end. They dont think you're a hero, they just need you so they can use you, like your some worthless piece of ****.

And another meaning I have thought about is maybe a little bit inaccurate, but i dont know. Just read it lol.
This song could be about someone who thinks they're just worthless, and should die. They think they have no purpose for being here, on earth. So they think they're just "born for dying."

I know most will disagree with that last comment/interpretation, but thats just one guess at a secondary meaning.

this song is about a man lured into the army in search of glory, and as soon as he reaches the battlefield he discovers that nothing matters anymore and he was just another disposable tool used by the government.

It's like how bodies are falling on the ground, but the general says its an acceptable loss. Then, one solider has been killing, and now he can do it without a thought, without a soul. And he is trained to do it. And how you 'serve your country' when you really make the kill big, and the war more. It's like how the president deems the killers heroes, and the ones who don't kill, the ones with souls scum. And then a ruthless general literally commands them to death. And then the other solider doesn't seem to be seeing what the generals see and what he thinks is right.

This is a great song, in both the instruments and lyrics. I think it describes how joining the military is made to look so heroic and respectful to your country, but once you're out on the battlefield, nothing matters but yourself. The government doesn't care if you live or die, they just want you to do their bidding at your expense. Of course, this doesn't mean that you are ignorant for joining the armed forces, I still think it is very respectable, and I'm not taling about the U.S. government in particular.

I think this song is about the pain these soldiers have to live with on a daily basis. Feeling empty inside with no soul,or a soul full of sin. because these people have been taken advantage all their livies and no one cares. - I believe this song changed the path of my life. My friend sang this to me when i was at Basic training. Which made me cry. Funny enough i left the army, returned home and now have two kids with my childhood sweetheart. THANKS FOR FRIENDS AND METALLICA. If you have given up in god. He hasn't given up in you!

I feel this song is about how soldiers can, and have been treated by a government. Not necessarily how they are treated by the U.S. government. Some people take it too far with their anarchist bulllshit. The United States is a great nation, and the best thing that ever happened to the world. No, I am not brainwashed, no I don't have a political party, I guess you could call me conservative. I don't have a religion, either. I have no loyalties except to my nation and to my family, for they have provided me security, and sustainance. I have thought long and hard, in several situations and states of mind and consciousness. I am joining to Marines to fight for the right. SEMPER FI!

As the whole, Master of Puppets (the album of course) has a theme of manipulation and helplessness. If you look at the cover of the album, it looks like it is directly connected to this song.

This song is the story of a young soldier who has been sent to war against his will, born to join the army with no say in what he would like to do with his life. The first verse is what he initially sees as he enters the battle. The part after that is his general speaking to his parents, in what I guess to be the soldier's imagination. He's dreaming about getting out of that hellish war. The general's BACK TO THE FRONT brings him back to his grim reality.

In the second verse, the young soldier is a little more used to his surroundings as he fights. The war is violent and very long.

The third verse, to me at least, is extremely moving. By the time the third verse comes along, it seems as if the soldier has been shot badly or hurt some other way, or is at least lost in the battle. Indeed, the words in the third verse sound like those of a man whose life is flashing before his eyes.

Very moving song indeed, my absolute favorite Metallica song and vote for their best and most moving war song.

My favorite Metallica song by far.
The meanings self-explanatory..
it's similar to eye of the beholder..
it's about how the government wants us all to listen to them and follow all there bullshit rules, when in reality they don't give a shit about us..

"you will do as I say, when I say back to the front" !

I think this song is just about foot soldiers who are forced to the front by their generals and/or presidents to die, and who are abused and mistreated and their efforts in the war are forgotten and unappreciated in the big scheme of things.I think that directly applies to the situation today- Bush sending people off to their death, and people blindly following whatever their superiors tell them, even if it's having to face the oncoming enemy to die

Its about how the government gets other people to their battles for them. I agree with them. It sounds like the song writter might have lost a close friend or family member because or war. I also agree with what there saying about how the military doesnt care about letting young inocent boys die they just care about getting more stripes on their jacket or metals on their uniform. If I was going to write the song I would have mentioned how with the draft the govenmet is just getting as many kids they can giving them guns ordering them to kill dropping them off in combat and expecting them to know what to do.
