All Along The Watchtower (Jimi Hendrix c... Lyrics
There must be some way outta here
Said the joker to the thief
There's too much confusion here
I can't get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None of them know along the line
What any of this is worth, yeah

No reason to get excited
The thief, he kindly spoke
There are many among us
Who think that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And that is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
Because the hour is getting late, hey, hey, hey

All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While horsemen came and went
Barefoot servants, too

All I got is a red guitar
Three chords and the truth
All I got is a red guitar
The rest is up to you

There's no reason to get excited
The thief, he kindly spoke
There are some among us here
Say that life is just a joke
You and I, we've been through that
And that is not our fate, at least today
So let us not talk falsely now
Because the hour is getting late, late
Yeah...

Yeah a lot of people have covered it. I really like their verison of it though. Especially the extra verse Bono adds in:

All I got is a red guitar
Three chords and the truth
All I got is a red guitar
The rest is up to you

It's good song.

U2 covered this.... thats really not cool, bono is horrible
this song is for hendrix and dylan and maybe some other bands of that era to cover (the grateful dead maybe) Its a dylan song and i very much doubt these morons have any idea as to what there singing about. And that extra crap he threw in makes him sound like a moron

The only moron i see here is you PURPLEHAZE. Speaking of moron musicians, hendrix was sub-par at music making, a dynamite guitarist but his music wasnt all that great. This song has been covered so many times and Hendrix by far did not do the best at it, i would take Dylans, U2s, or dave matthews version over him. And to call U2 morons, you obviously have zero taste for good music.

U2 and Jimi Hendrix are both awesome so shut up both of you. I think that Jimi Hendrix's was better but U2's is pretty good too.

i don't. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. This song is excellent and to be covered by so many artists only proves its excellence. I think Jimi's version is the best, but that is only my OPINION. DMB version is great (just about the only song of theirs i like), U2 is good (i don't like that extra verse), and grateful dead's version is ok.

let me add that U2 is an excellent band, whom i love dearly, except their later stuff, pre-HTDAAB. That pretty much sucked, except for some exceptions. That is my OPINION though.

While U2s version on Rattle and Hum always gives me an adreneline rush, even Bob Dylan himself admitted in an interview several years back that Hendrix version of this song was the best cover of one of his tunes that he had ever heard.

I like this version of the song. The Jimi Hendrix version I admittedly find better, but I like U2, and pretty much any song they sing sounds good to me, so I like this.

By the way - did Bono write that stuff at the end? Because if he did, I like that. Not what he wrote per se (I don't think it's truly great), but I do like that he added something of his own to a cover. That's what I do when I cover songs (I'm a musician). If you're gonna cover a song, do something, some little something, to make that version your own.

This song is based on Isaiah 21 - but don't let the masses know that, apostate "Christian" Bono IDOLATERS.

The wind beginning to howl signifies the doom and destruction soon to come from God onto false religionists of "Babylon the Great", just like Babylon was destroyed in the Bible chapter this was taken from. How very fair and just Jehovah is, and how strong and right his rage and vengeance are.
