Misguided satellite
I circle by habit,
Can't find my orbit to save my life
I want to fall,
I want to burn,
Like an ignorant crater less meteorite
Long ago I was derailed,
Long ago the mission failed
But in the distance there appears a light

Disgruntled architect
Building a palace
Can't make it perfect to save my life
Victimless crime ride the wrecking ball in
Evacuate now while I breathe dynamite
Efforts all to no avail
I'm perfection's countervail
Torn in pieces, I am made contrite

And in my darkest hour
The brightest light draws near to me
A torch to end all torches,
This is the light that sets me free
All shadows burn away now
But by his grace I am sustained
Though all was lost,
Now all is found and more is gained

Lift me up and make me whole
Instill in me a new hope
Breathe new life into my soul

General Comment:This song is obviously about God. The bible calls God the torch to end all torches, as in a light that shines brighter than all others- a supreme being. The entire song is nothing but metaphors for a human who finds God. The speaker is down about how life is hard and imperfect, and in the speakers darkest (i.e. shittiest) hour he/she finds God. And when he/she does, all the bad in his/her life fades away. It's as simple as that, with some good metaphorical language to get the point accross.

General Comment:This song is awesome. unfortunately, right now i can only relate to some parts, like, being "in my darkest hour". im still hoping something will "Lift me up and make me whole-Instill in me a new hope-Breathe new life into my soul". albeit, i doubt it would be through god.

Thrice is one of the greatest bands of all time, but lately, its clearly not the same musically as it was with the first 2 or 3 albums. still, much is to be liked. Dustins solo album is cool too. peace.

General Comment:The thing that pisses me off is that when an idiot first hears this song, they are so quick to say it's "emo" They never take the time to actually listen to the song and see that it is a spiritual and religous song

General Comment:To say that their religion has nothing to do with the music they write, especially with C.S Lewis being the biggest literary influence on Dustin's writing, is ignorant. Especially with a band emotionally charged as Thrice, religion is a hugely emotional thing.

General Comment:i kind of think the religion debate thats going on here is extremely simple - if you are a christian you believe that this song is religiously based, and if you are not a christian you may not want to open your mind up to that possibilty.( not saying you have to ) and thats isn't going to change. davidusioannes has basically made it nice and easy to the non christians to understand, and i believe he/she is right, but all the non christians that believe this song is about something else are still going to hold their point no matter how much evidence there is. oh yeah and i would also like to add that all lyrics are open to different interpretation, and can b adapted to each persons own meaning, and i don't mean to b critisizing that. but in my own opinion i see only ( with the end half of the lyrics) a meaning which is based on Christianity, the part which states ' but by his grace i am sustained" is what affirms that, in my mind anyway.

General Comment:To me this song is about a man who set out on a righteous task. but "long ago the mission failed" and he lost focus. He had guilt, "torn in pieces, I am made contrite", and he wanted to be unacounable, "an ignorant craterless meteorite", and die. But he found something that would forgive him, "this is the light that sets me free". And not only forgive him but, make his life complete.
I don't consider these guys a christian band, but rather a band with a christian flare. He talks about losing it all, but finding he has it all. Now that is the heart of christianity. I know some "christians" give it a bad name, but self-righteousness is not what christianity is about, at all.
    Thanks for reading this.
