Lyrics for Turn The Page as interpreted by nikuku

Turn The Page Lyrics
On a lonely lonesom highway
east of Omaha
You can listen to the engine moanin'
Out his one long song
You can think about the woman
Or the girl you knew the night before

And your thoughts will soon be wandering
The way they always do
When you're riding sixteen hours
and there's nothing much to do
You don't feel much like ridin'
You just wish the trip was through

Here I am, on the road again
Here I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing the star again
There I go, turn the page

So you walk into this restaraunt
Strung out from the road
And you feel the eyes upon you
As you're shaking off the cold
You pretend it doesn't bother you
But you just want to explode
Yeah, Most times you can't here 'em talk
Other times you can

Yeah the same 'ole cliches...
Is it woman, is it man?
And you always seem outnumbered
You don't dare make a stand

Here I am, on the road again
Here I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing the star again
There I go, turn the page

Out there in the spotlight
You're a million miles away
Every ounce of energy
You try to give away
And the sweat pours out your body
Like the music that you play

Later in the evening
As you lie awake in bed
The echos of the amplifiers
Ringin' in your head
You smoke the days last cigarette
Remembering what she said
What she said

Here I am, on the road again
Here I am, up on the stage
Here I go, playing the star again
There I go, turn the page
There I go, turn the page
There I go, yeah yeah
There I go, Yeah yeah

There I go, yeah
Here I go, yeah
Here I go-oah
Here I go...

and gone.

Thank you Metallica for existing. I duno bob seger's version, but i can't imagine myself liking this song any other way than how Metallica performed it. I'd defenitely NOT listen to seger's version so that he won't ruin it for me.

you know what?
fuck bob fucking seger.
metallica are and will remain to be one of the greatest metal bands in history.
i loooove this song.
i loooove what they did with it.
songs can change just as much as the music industry itself does.
its all about interpretation.
i thought it would've been wrong if they took a shitty song by bob seger and did it exactly the same.
they fucked it and beat it until it had a metallica edge on it.
and i respect that.
this song sounds of regret and anger..
and as if you wouldnt sing the words "you pretend it doesnt bother you, but you just want to explode" with a massive growl!?

this song is awesome, i looooove the guitar.
and has anyone seen the clip?
it made me cry.

METALLICA OWN <3

I hate this version, and the fact that when you look up the title "Turn The Page" this come up before Seger pisses me right the hell off.

I can recall literally screaming at my radio when I heard this version come on a local rock station. James got to the line "On the road again" and added a bit of extra growl to his voice, and I screamed "FUCK YOU METALLICA" and hit the power button as hard as I could. This isn't a fucking metal song, so don't butcher it by being a one trick pony you metallica dickbags.

I love Bob Seger's original version of this and I also think Metallica did an amazing cover. I like how the replaces the Saxophone with the guitar.

The song is about being on tour and being away from those you love and make it all worth while.

This song is about the emptiness of fame. While he travels from show to show, he thinks about how his life just goes on and on, not really bringing any true, lasting satisfaction.

I think its a good cover. But I like the original better. Cant really describe why. Its almost as if I hear more meaning coming from Seger's voice. Sounds sadder. darker. hard to describe.

anyways I dont really understand the video metallica did for this. doesnt really go with the song. its about a musician. not a prostitute.

By far the best cover i've ever heard and probably the only cover i've ever heard that i liked more than the original besides GNR's cover of Knockin' on Heavens Door and their cover of Live And Let Die.

masterwarlok you seemed like an intelligent person up until the part where you said something about a manson song being good. i almost pissed myself when i saw that because its most likely the stupidest thing i have ever heard.

True, when Metallica does a song, they make it better and more powerful. I heard Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey" and there was no comparison. Turn the Page is their best cover. James sang it well.

Well Hbk 2000 I have to disagree with you about Metallica being the only band that can do a good cover. I am a Huge Metallica fan have been to 9 of there concerts and have every thing they ever made even some old demo shit. But as for covers G N R did a great job of Knocking on Heavens Door and the did a great cover of Sympathy for the Devil, Plus Manson did a great remake of the old Erythmics song Sweet Dreams. oh yea he also did a good job with Tanted Love. As for remakes they are out there and the are remaid to target a younger audiance and give the song new life now I agree not all remakes are good but i think Metallica did a good job with Turn the Page. The problem people have is the are to closed minded. Open you minds people explore life it is too short to lett it pass with out trying anything new!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. No One, how in the fuck is this Thrash Metal? It's Hard Rock. Despite being called Metallica, this song is Hard Rock, much like their Load and Reload albums.

And, yeah, in my opinion, they did capture that feel.

the two songs are on different levels. for the people saying that the origional was to slow, prob. some some metalhead who has no respect for classic rock. and those bashing the thrash style incorperated into the cover. it did justice. when a band does covers, they use others words to convey what they feel. individual songs mean different things to individual people. this happens to be what they felt when they herd this song.

its hard to cover such a great song, metallica managed to pull it off. gratz

But wait, the whole thing about recording covers is REcreating the song, not just playing it again, isn't it? The best covers are completely different than previous versions, like Tori Amos' Enjoy the Silence or House of the Rising Sun by Muse... it's finding something new in old tunes and words...

Seger was talking about sadness and loneliness. Hetfield is talking about rage - using THE SAME words. Isn't IT amazing?

[sorry for my English :)]

I am so dissapointed with humanity right now...

How could any of you even begin to think that this song is any good in comparison to Seger's? Seger WROTE the song; he built the mood and no cover could possibly recreate that.

Metallica didn't even do it right. They didn't capture the feel of being on the road, but instead had to make a perfectly good classic song into thrash metal, which would be okay if it were a song that fit it. But it isn't.

The saxaphone was meant for this song, to put it into a dark, lonely mood. Seger's voice helped this greatly. He built up to the big finish with his vocal explosion, but never pounded the music. That's because that's not how he intended it.

Meanwhile we have Metallica, who start off like they are going to be faithful to a great song, and then have to do what they did. Ruin it. Maybe it would be forgivven if they had waited on the musical explosion until the ending, but they just don't have that much self control.

Seger had the only worth-while version. This on the other hand...no...just no.
