Lyrics for Master of Puppets as interpreted by elmoz

Master of Puppets Lyrics
End of passion play, crumbling away
I'm your source of self-destruction
Veins that pump with fear, sucking darkest clear
Feeding on your death's construction
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
You're dedicated to
How I'm killing you

Come crawling faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Your life burns faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Master, master
Master of Puppets I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master, master
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master, master

Needlework the way, never you betray
life of death becoming clearer
Pain monopoly, ritual misery
chop your breakfast on a mirror
Taste me you will see
More is all you need
You're dedicated to
How I'm killing you

Come crawling faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Your life burns faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Master, master
Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master, master

Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master master master master master

Master, master, where's the dreams that I've been after?
Master, master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear and see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries

FACE ME!!!

Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
just a rhyme without a reason
Never-ending maze, drift on numbered days
now your life is out of season

I will occupy
I will Help you die
I will run through you
Now I'll rule you, too

Come crawling faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Your life burns faster (faster)
Obey your master (master)
Master, master
Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams
Blinded by me, you can't see a thing
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master, master

Ha- Ha- Ha- Ha- Ha- Ha- Ha- Ha

I think all u guys are wrong. this song is definetly about the governement controlling soldiers. If you look on the album cover you'll notice the soldiers graves with the hands in the sky with the puppet strings.

Anyways thats what i get from this song.

lol you guys are all assholes. Anyone that said its about anything else but drugs is on drugs. It never mentions once the government or religeon. Your reading to deep into it. While there other songs may talk bout those topics this one doesn't. Most likely this song was directed at Mustaine but i can't say that for sure and I'm sure they would never admit that now anyway. Anyways this songs about drugs and addiction and how it controls and destroys you.

ok...it is about drugs..plain and simple. the cover with the hands and crosses is a mix between master and disposable heroes. i see hints of both heroin and cocaine in the song...so who cares ..it is about drug addiction in general

Here's a more detailed lyrical analysis of the song that I drew up. Some aspects are, perhaps, slightly off, but it is based on my personal interpretation, after all. Hope it helps.

"chop your breakfast on a mirror"

I haven't read through all of the comments, but this line clinches the 'cocaine' theme. I don't think it's about heroine at all.

I must say, I am very disappointed with all you people who come here and bash people for having a different interpretation of this song than yourselves. Everyone has their own interpretation of each song. There is no right or wrong interpretation. When someone explains the meaning of a song they are explaining what it means to THEM, not others. Each person's interpretation often reflects on their personality and life experiences so people may have different interpretations.

Now, James Hetfield may have had a particular meaning in mind when he wrote it but that's what the lyrics mean to HIM. Song lyrics are just a bunch of words and sentences arranged in a meaninful way and therefore could mean very different things to the author and the reader. Just because those lyrics mean a particular thing to the author of them, doesn't mean that's the "right" interpretation. Lyrics by themselves mean nothing, they require people to add meaning to them. The meaning of a song only exists as people interpret it and therefore there are many different meanings for each song of which none are wrong.

So stop bashing people because they disagree with your interpretation or the popular interpretation.

Besides, the text above the comment box says "What does this song mean to YOU?". So by sharing their interpretation of the song, people are only answering the question they were asked in the first place. After all, that's the whole point of this site, to discuss and express what a song means to YOU so people can find out about a wide variety of interpretations. Bashing people just because they disagree with your interpretation or the popular interpretation just discourages discussion.

I don't think this song is completely about drugs. everyone in life has their own addiction and passion for something. this song is about practicing control because if you don't than a master will reign over you, moving everything in you're life, and in the end all what you had chased turns out to be a mere fantasy. therefore losing yourself and objectives in life.
'I will help you die' aswsome words. very strong.

I think its about a guy who called James Hetfield who took a shot in the mouth from a hairy russian roadie named Stanislav on September 28, 1991

i think this song is really about adiction, most probably drugs considering that it will destroy you and reference to needles and so. I don't really think that this has anything to do with politics or beliefs it's simply about drugs, and not any specific drug. some songs have a very deep meaning and are not what they might seem, but I don't think that's the case here.

ok..first of all id like to say i think its sad that you bash each others opinions so much. opinion is just that your own PERSONAL interpretattion..but anyway

second of all, to that guy with the religious ramblings and his comment bout the line 'end of passion play' tieing into the mel gibson movie 'the passion of the christ'...now lets think hmm metallica..master of puppets..1986!!! Pasion of the christ? 2004. CLEARLY no link

third of all, to the guy that commented about how its similar to dOOm, i agree with that, my brother even mistook it for the dOOm theme when i was playing it, but there is NO POSSIBLE WAY Metallica ripped it off, once again MoP '86: dOOm mid '90's

fourth of all it can be about any kind of adiction, 'chop your breakfast on a mirror' indicates cocain

'needlwork away' indicates heroin

also in the MTV icon special James said that it he later relised AFTER writing it that it tied into his alcoholism

anyways i dont understand why we need to argue over EXACTLY what it is about, any way it is and always will be a metalheads anthem

ps. to the guy who questioned the 'ritual misery' line, i interpret that as the ritual of taking your drug, which is a misery to the adict..or an adict thats aware of his\her problem anyway

He probably confused the title of the movie with the defintion of "passion play," which is "a dramatic performance, of medieval origin, that represents the events associated with the Passion of Jesus."

ok, so a lot of people thing this song is about drugs, and within that they argue with each other over which drug, some people think its about religion or government, one person up there even said to them its about anorexia. The thing is, songs are kinda like poems, and the great thing with a lot of poems and a lot of songs, is that while it may have one meaning to one person, it could have a tottally different meaning to another person, it all depends on what the song says to each person, how they interpret it. There are lines that give clues to specific meanings, but if 95% of the lyrics are telling you one meaning, while a few lines dont fit, oh well, the majority of the lyrics are giving you that meaning. Lets say that when metallica wrote the song, they wrote it specifically about drugs or alchohol, thats fine, that doesnt mean that the song wont mean something else for another person.
In my own opinion, its about some controlling element, whether its addiction, religion, a type of government, or any other controlling element.

This song is about Satan and how he pulls you down. Just think about it. It's not about drugs.
OBEY YOUR MASTER = SATAN.
Face me, hell is worth all that. Natural habitat.

It's obvious that's what it's about.

Best Metallica song ever.

It's about drugs... period.
Not any specific drug... just the ones that will mess you up. "Chop your breakfast on a mirror" is most likely cocaine. The line about needlework is about heroin. Any previous lines are nuetral to pretty much all drugs. .... Look at any live performances as well for proof it's about coke and heroin. During the line "Fix me" or "Face me" or whatever he makes a hand gesture and injects himself in the arm.

I think this song is about drugs, but I know alot of you are saying "Metallica was never on drugs" well, they weren't, In my opinion they're pretty much saying why you SHOULDN'T do drugs.

This is an excellent song but I don't see why everyone says "ITS THE BEST METALLICA SONG". I truly don't believe in the "Best" of songs because every song is different (unless a band is cheap and duplicates its songs lol). I mean, comparing Of Wolf And Man and Master Of Puppets, I would chose Wolf because I prefer its sounds and shortness to Puppets length. Great song though and superb album.
