  General Comment:I think this song has been interpreted into many situations, because its a simple love song, Bono and his wife. But I have heard; NI and Eire, East and West Germany unification and U2 and the audience. Its a versatile glove.

  General Comment:Of course this works as a love song, but I think it's mainly about the pressure the band felt during the time they were making that album. They were an aspiring young band with a growing fan base but they hadn't had a big hit and I guess that was just what the record company expected them to deliver. I read somewhere that some music business people had given notable financial support for the "October" tour and the band probably needed to break even soon.
  
  This might be their very attempt to come up with a catchy song to break the single charts. Of course it was other songs from this album that turned into famous anthems and "Two Hearts Beat As One" is rather a forgotten single but nevertheless with that album they seized what is described in this song as their "last chance". If this was really meant that way it's quite a bold move to explain to the (radio) audience in the lyrics what the song was written for...
  
  The lyrics might also address the band's live performances, their extensive touring for a better renown. A desperate cry, "I'm doing my very best, giving 100% on stage, this is my offering... take it or leave it."
  
  It's connected to "Like A Song", also from the "War" album, which deals with the image of the band as well.

  General Comment:I was watching this video and the acrobat in the red jumpsuit is by a sign that reads "Musee d'...syndicat d' initiative" which means tourist office. I thought this video was shot in ireland, but seems to be by some french museum, any guesses ?

  General Comment:ive been falling more in love with WAR lately and had forgotten how good of an album it was. This is probably my 2nd fav song off that album next to New Years Day. So many U2 songs seem to deal with the confusion of the opposite sex. I can absolutely relate to that. I just had a weird weekend with a girl i know and i played this song and it seemed to fit perfectly to our situation. Its great to listen to as loud as your stereo will go.

  General Comment:actually i think this can also be made into a long song aswell..... along with 3 other songs off of war or you could tie them into the situation in Ireland which works out really well...

  General Comment:Actuallt the lyrics are very straightforward. U2 is singing about the division between Ireland and Northern Ireland and how people who wish it to be united pursue this end in different ways (Black and white - power of the pen) Vs (Red - power of the sword). When in doubt apply the NI situation to just about every song on the WAR album and the lyrics will make sense. Album title making more sense now???

  General Comment:Wow, nobody commented on this song. One of the best off War (arguably U2's best old album). Bit confusing lyrics...perhaps bout how alike people really are.
