the useless drag of another day
the endless drags of a death rock boy mascara sure and lipstick lost
glitter burned by restless thoughts of being forgotten and in your sad machines
you'll forever stay
desperate and displeased-with whoever you are and you're a star
somewhere-he pulls his hair down-over a frowning smile a hidden diamond you cannot find
a secret star that cannot shine over to you
may the king of gloom, be forever doomed
and in your sad machines
you'll forever stay
burning up in speed lost inside the dreams, of teen machines
the useless drags, the empty days
the lonely towers of long mistakes
to forgotten faces and faded loves
sitting still was never enough
and if you're giving in, then you're giving up
cause in your sad machines
you'll forever stay
burning up in speed
lost inside the dreams, of teen machines

Song Meaning:My personal interperatation is that this song is aimed at people who spend more time procrastinating rather than going out into the world and chasing their dreams... "sitting still was never enough" Another theme which there are several references to is videogames "a hidden diamond you can not find a secret star that cannot shine" (hidden items) "may the king of gloom, be forever doomed" could be a reference to an in game villain... and that would make sense if he's referring to consoles as "sad machines". The other references to procrastination are "The endless drag of another day, the endless drags of a death rock boy" etc.... i first made thes links when my friends became addicted to WOW.. this song made so much sense while i was watching them wasting themselves on something which is so utterly pointless when thay could go outside and see the real world.

General Comment:One of the few truly great songs on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Bullshit. As I've said on other posts, there is a great 45-minute follow-up to Siamese Dream buried in all the failed experiments on this 2-CD (3-LP) mess. I have often thought of making my own edit of the album, but I really can't be bothered to sit through two-plus hours of stuff to find it.

General Comment:i dont know if you guys noticed this, but HERE IS NO WHY is (or could be) an anagram to WHINY HEROES like kurt cobain, he was the leader of a generation but sadly, he was too weak (mentally and physically with the time because of the drugs) to handle it... or it could also be a self-personality exam from billy to the 18 year old billy, since in that time he believed himself a hero for being in a goth-rock band but he actually was disappointed with his life expectations... º

General Comment:to me this songs about Billy old-self during his Goth-rock years, when he used to look like a member of Kiss and wanted to be a rockstar....

General Comment:i agree with thomas. i dont know if it is about kurt but for me it covers a whole group of people. i think it is about being young, having dreams and wearing stupid clothes with stupid haircuts.

General Comment: this song covers the time when we are younger. adults say that it is our delusions that make us depressed because we have not found "who we are". It is the people who are older that are deluded in their thought.. everybody finds who they are at this time in life.. and they see that they can not be who they are and survive in society.. we have to pretend to be what we are not. the wise ones know to smile even when they are sad. society is full of stereotypes for teenagers. it's just a cycle...
i guess this music helps a bit.

General Comment:"Here is no why" is an anagram of "whiny heroes" lol, probably not intentional but still funny in the context of the song

General Comment:i just always thought it was about kurt cobain, making fun of how depressed and unhappy he supposedly was, which is ironic because the next song on the album starts with "the world is a vampire sent to drain"...the interpretation that its about billy when he was younger makes more sense

General Comment:I'm sure that at some point Billy will somehow come across this site and decide to see what people say about his music. and he's going to be pissed that you guys took something that is essentially something personal for him (because guess what? HE wrote the damn thing!) and turned it into yet another lame brainwashed ass kissing tribute to a guy who is only fixed in your minds because of how the man died.
Don't get me wrong, I liked Nirvana, but some of my favorite songs of theirs are covers they did of other peoples stuff haha(think Meat Puppets) so really, Cobain's not that great. and if you're going to idolize the guy, the least you all could do is spell his name right. there is and never was nor will be, an e at the the end.

Now that I said my peace about that, there's something that's bugging me about this song. I love it so don't get me wrong there, it's just that I know for a fact there is another song out there with different lyrics, but the same EXACT MUSIC as "Here Is No Why" but it's been years since I heard it...So I'm asking anybody and everybody if they know what I'm talking about....I don't know the band or the name of the song so it's really bugging me that I can't remember...and it's been about 5 or more years since I heard it...it used to get lots of radio play.....and I don't have the slightest idea what the lyrics may be.....anybody help with this?

General Comment:A lot of it seems to be about finding freedom. Like doing things other people will frown upon and not caring because you're following your heart. And how you wish other people would do the same thing, and mourning the fact that you can't do anything to change them and break them out of the rut they're in now because they thought they had no choice.

Also, in a way, it seems to be about moving on. Not getting over things, but moving past them. Things from your past will still hurt, no matter what people tell you about "letting go," but you can still go on living and live happily anyway. Reality doesn't have happy endings or even resolutions most of the time, and we're all destined to become damaged goods, if not sooner then later. That's a given. What matters is, knowing that, what will you do?
