Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah they were all yellow

I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to have done
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know you know I love you so
You know I love you so

I swam across
I jumped across for you
Oh what a thing to do

Cause you were all yellow
I drew a line
I drew a line for you
Oh what a thing to do
And it was all yellow

Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry
For you I'd bleed myself dry

It's true
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine for you
Look how they shine

Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And all the things that you do

My Opinion:I absolutely love this song and though I can agree with what (almost) everyone has said, to me this song is... hmmm... Well I really really really- x1,000,000- love orange, and this song is like a hope that someday I will find someone who can see the world like I do. And it was Orange. I feel like this makes no sense but, I can't explain it anyother way. Sorry if that was confusing.

My Interpretation:It's a love song. This is not about sickness or jaundice. It plays on the word yellow and it's several meanings. The first yellow is being a coward, by the way.

My Interpretation:I write this as a possible meaning to the lyrics of Coldplay's Yellow. From the information I have drawn from a combination of the timing of the facial expressions of the singer on the beach in the song video and the lyrics themselves. Although I could be very wrong. If I am wrong I meant no harm - this was only an observation.
The meaning of the lyrics and the song video images combined are long and complex and this is a very abridged version.
Firstly, the lead singer is trying to explain to a girl from his past - he has really always loved - that although he took part in some 'act unpleasant' (not necessarily illegal) that involved himself and others (perhaps when they were all very young) and involved the girl, - whom he is also addressing directly in the video - and using the combined medium of lyrics and video to explain himself in apology to her, in a sincere manner, perhaps many years after the unpleasant event.
Secondly, the lead singer yearns to wish the girl, and love of his life (who can never be his wife or partner now because of the hurt he caused her in the past by a foolish and probably boyish act) well for the rest of both of their existences on this earth. Adolescents do things to one another when they are in the transition period from children to adults that only serve to form a strong example of good behavior in the adult. This is called life experience, and as the song mentions - the example of what not to do as an adult that you may have done as a foolish adolescent is a beautiful thing.
    Regards and Respect to Experience.

General Comment:It's an honest, wonderful declaration of love. This song's about pure devotion to somebody, perhaps an unrequited love in CM's case bearing in mind previous songs like 'Shiver'. Remember singing this with a girl I almost ended up in a relationship with a while back when we were drunk together, didn't work out but this song will always take me back to that moment!

General Comment:I love how so many interpretations can be put on a song. Such a good example of life and how our interpretation of it becomes our reality. I am choosing ‘Yellow’ to represent the ageless, three fingered two dimensional characters that appear in the ‘Simpsons’. ;P

General Comment:This song reminds me of a girl I currently love. She apparently doesn't love or even like me back. I remember the time when I just told her I love her, and she claimed that she will treat me the same. Sadly, as time went through, she started avoiding me. I tried contacting her through various social networking sites, but to no avail of her reply. I "drew her lines", "jumped across", "wrote a song" and even "swam across" for her, yet I get nothing in return.

My Interpretation:Yellow is the color of many things. Light, flowers, the sun and other stars, it represents happiness as well a illness in some cases. Yellow is a color that can mean many things and have many emotions. However, it is a primary color, therefore, one of the simplest colors. Just as true unconditionally love. It is unpredicatble and raw. It's simple yet profound. It's also infinite like the possibilities of yellow when it comes to what it can mean or what other colors you can make when you mix it. Yellow also comes in many shades and intensities just as love does. When you love someone you would "bleed [yourself] dry for them" and "[their] skin and bones turn into somethng beautiful" to you. This song is about unconditional love. The real type that everyone wants and deserves. The kind of love that is everything it wants or needs to be.

My Interpretation:I think the "Yellow" in this song is about a symptom of a disease known as jaundice.

Jaundice can be caused by several diseases like hepatic dysfunction and disease, inefficient thermoregulation such as with premature infants and several blood factors. In every case, when red blood cells in the body are destroyed in increased or normal amounts, the end product is called bilirubin which in increased amounts is toxic to the body - and is also colored yellow. Bilirubin is normally excreted in the body by passing through the liver. When the liver is diseased or dysfunctional, it fails to excrete the bilirubin. The retention of bilirubin, called hyperbilirubinemia causes signs of yellow skin as well as eye coloration - thus, the word “Yellow.”

    Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
    And everything you do
    Yeah they were all yellow

I think the song is about someone he loves who is sick or dying. That person has loved and taken care of him at one point or most of his life. I’d say it was his mother.

    I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
    And it was called yellow

So then I took my turn
Oh what a thing to have done
    And it was all yellow

He feels it’s his to give back the love his mom had given him. She is sick or probably dying and he took the chance to show her his love. He visits her in the hospital and writes her a song.

    Your skin
Oh yeah your skin and bones
    Turn into something beautiful
    And you know
For you I'd bleed myself dry

And even during the moment that her body is wasting away, he sees beauty in her. And in that moment, he knows he’ll sacrifice everything for her including all his blood. Blood transfusion is a common intervention at extreme exacerbations of liver dysfunction.

This is a very beautiful love song. It is universal and can relate to every person who knows he can sacrifice his life for someone dear to him.

    Turn into something beautiful

You know I love you so

I think this part is about when you fall in love with someone, their normal human parts, their skin and bones, suddenly become beautiful to you :)
