Lyrics for Comfortable as interpreted by wherewulf

Comfortable Lyrics
I just remember that time at the market
You snuck up behind me
And jumped on my shopping cart
You rolled down aisle five
You looked behind you to smile back at me
Crashed in to a rack full of magazines
They asked us if we could leave
Can't remember
What went wrong last September
Though I'm sure you'd remind me if you had to

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in

I sleep with this new girl
I'm still getting used to
My friends all approve saying
"She's going to be good for you"
They throw me high fives
She swears the bible is all that she reads
Prefers that I not use profanity
Your mouth was so dirty
Life of the party
And she swears that she's artsy
But you could distinguish Miles from Coltrane

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in
She's perfect, so flawless
Or so they say

She thinks I can't see the smile thats she's faking
And poses for pictures that aren't being taken
I loved you
Gray sweatpants
No makeup
So perfect

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in
She's perfect, so flawless
I'm not impressed
I want you back

i love the shopping cart part at the beginning, its such a cute story about a couple who are totally at ease with each other. i love that he loves her flaws, its so cute.

this is a great song. John's early stuff is alot better than his new CD, but i would have to say im a fan of both. this is my favorite song. my favorite line is "She thinks I can't see the smile thats she's faking
And poses for pictures that aren't being taken " that line really means alot 2 me beacuse it referrs to alot of annoying people who are seen as perfect, but arent

I have made it my goal in life to convert people to being John fans... haha, I feel like a missionary sent to Africa to bring Christianity or something!! I have seen John twice and I am seeing him again in August.... what an AMAZING guy.

This song is probably the best from John. It tells a story (like all his songs) about love and heartache. Man....I wish I had his talent for song writing.

This is one of my favorite songs from John Mayer. I agree with useless victories, he's telling a story about his love with that one girl that meant everything to him. He's definitely an awesome artist. Fabulous Fabulous.

This is my fav JM song. I always think that my fav songs of his are those I can relate to. Like, there's a few of his songs that just sound like they're telling the story of my life - 3X5, St Patrick's Day, Comfortable.

I love the line where he says "...she swears that's she's artsy, but you couldn't distinguish miles from coltrane (or me from jack johnson/dave matthews)". Reminds me of a girl I once loved - she knew nothing about the music I loved, but in a way it endeared me to her, and I know I'd be more "comfortable" with her than any girl who seems like the perfect one.

...and, yes, i do want her back....

actually, ejbelair, its 'you COULD distinguish miles from coltraine", meaning unlike the new girl she knew what she was talking about

to the first user who wrote:
" One thing this song always reminds of is that just because something is perfect doesn't mean it will last forever. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong."

thats a paradox. if it doesn't last forever obviously it ISN'T PERFECT.

this is my favorite part of the song (Any Given Thursday version):

"that you were my first love
is just dumb luck
a technicality
you were ahead of me
that you were my first love
is just dumb dumb stupid luck
a technicality
you will always be ahead of me
tell me why i have to practice on you
why i have to practice on your heart"

This was the first song of John's that I ever heard, and I was hooked from the first note. It's achingly beautiful. It's clear that he misses this girl and the way that their relationship used to be, somethiing that I'm sure that many people can relate to. I know I can.

I think this song is so pretty... both the live version and studio version! Sometimes there aren't words to explain what you are trying to say, and what comes to mind to John when he is trying to describe the love between him and this one girl is "comfortable." He's sayin that their love was so right, and so natural that it'd become this big part of him. Even now, months later, when he is seeing someone new, he can't put that relationship behind him. The new girl he is with is 'perfect'... but she isn't the one he loves... and it's killing him because he wants to go back to the love of his life. In another version he says, "that you were my first love was just dumb luck," and that she was his 'practice'... I take the meaning of 'practice' as this girl that he made mistakes with (she was sort of a practice run,) except he fell in love with her. And if he could take back all his mistakes, if he knew then what he knows now, then they would still be together. I Love It! Ok that was really long, sorry, but I really do luv this song! And I might be off, or a lil bit confusing, but thats just what I get out of it

i never got the big deal with comfy ... it's good, but i don't think it's john's best song. "but you could distinguish me from jack johnson" from as/is makes me laugh.
