Lyrics for Comfortable as interpreted by wherewulf

Comfortable Lyrics
I just remember that time at the market
You snuck up behind me
And jumped on my shopping cart
You rolled down aisle five
You looked behind you to smile back at me
Crashed in to a rack full of magazines
They asked us if we could leave
Can't remember
What went wrong last September
Though I'm sure you'd remind me if you had to

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in

I sleep with this new girl
I'm still getting used to
My friends all approve saying
"She's going to be good for you"
They throw me high fives
She swears the bible is all that she reads
Prefers that I not use profanity
Your mouth was so dirty
Life of the party
And she swears that she's artsy
But you could distinguish Miles from Coltrane

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in
She's perfect, so flawless
Or so they say

She thinks I can't see the smile thats she's faking
And poses for pictures that aren't being taken
I loved you
Gray sweatpants
No makeup
So perfect

Our love was comfortable
And so broken in
She's perfect, so flawless
I'm not impressed
I want you back

This song brought me to tears the first time I heard it. It beautifully describes the relationship I had with my ex-boyfriend - silly, playful, sweet, and perfectly comfortable. I wish that one day he would sing it to me so that I could run back to him. Anyway, I think that most people who've been in the type of relationship described in this song agree that it's one of the best types of love.

Just in response to those who say John Mayer and Dave Matthews sound identical--I absolutely loathe DMB, but I love John Mayer. You'd think if they sounded the same that I'd like both. But I don't, because I think they sound very different.
Also, good song.

I've been listening to DMB since 1992 and I see the point that some people are making about their similarities, but in all respect to the DMB, they could never write or perform a song as perfect as this. I came across John Mayer accidentally when searching for some DMB files and I am glad I did. He's my new favorite vocalist.

oh my god... miles davis and coltrane... TWO OF THE MOST AMAZING JAZZ MUSICIANS OF ALL TIME!!! oh boy, what is this world coming to??? by the way... john mayer is an artist... him and his guitar. dave matthews has a whole band behind him with a totally different style: harmonica... wind instruments, get it straight people.

The cool thing about John Mayer is that you listen to one of his songs and say 'wow, that could have been me writing that'. Sure enough, every song, I say 'wow, that's me'. This is no exception

This is John Mayer at his best. It's unbelievable how his lyrics can reach out to you. They're so personal. For some reason, I can't quite understand all the comparison to Dave Matthews. Sure their voices are fairly similar, but their writing style and technique are completely different. But back on topic, this is without a doubt a beautiful song.

I saw john mayer live last night! Awesome concert! GOD i would pay like, anything to go see him again. aah! he was soo good! You know how some people sound completely different live than on cd's and stuff? well john sounds just as good! if not better! I love how hes not all high tech and stuff, hes just kinda acoustic. Well he did this song, and it was great! He closed w/ an encore of neon which was amazing, but my fave song he did last night would have to be love song for no one or your body is a wonderland. They were just great even though those arent my favorite songs of his. Well, later.

I love this song... the lyrics are so thoughtful. "You could distinguish Miles from Coltrane" has to be my favorite line, though I'm not sure why.

If you guys get the chance, check out Sarah Jones' song "Your Revolution." It's amazing, but the FCC is trying to ban it because of the content. Damn censorship. :P

The first time i heard this song i told my friends in the car to shutup, and i made the driver start it over and listen again. The lyrics are so true, and you can totally picture yourself in every situation described in the song (the supermarket, talking to your friends about the new girl, etc) This song is great.

A quick correction for emo12PUNK12metal : John Mayer is not a "solo" artist. He, in fact, has a "band behind him." In his 1999 release "Inside Wants Out";yes, his work mainly consisted of solo acoustics. However, he was joined by bassist; David LaBruyere, and drummer; Nir Zidkiyahu in the studio for his latest album "Room for Squares." *Great song by the way*

The whole point of living, in my opinion, is to find a love that you can be completely comfortable with. it doesn't matter if they are 36-24-36, it doesn't matter if they have a perfect body and a beautiful smile. It doesn't matter how intelligent they are and it doesn't matter how great they are in bed. All that ever mattered and all that ever will matter is letting someone into your life that you can be so completely comfortable with that you bare your soul to them and you let them inside for a small glimpse of your life.

I pray someday that I find a love like this.
I pray for it every single day...
every single day.

I'm sorry, but i think the line 'But you could distinguish Miles from Coltrane' is one of the best lines i've heard in a while. I'm not into jazz or the blues that much but you can make that line pertain to whatever situation you're in. I now look at john mayer differently after hearing this song.....

Awww, I love this song. It's one that, when in a situation like this, makes you feel better to know that you aren't the only one who has gone through it. It's so awesome to see Johnny Mayer and Guster touring together... be sure to check Guster out!

This song is so beautifully written. I can totally relate to this song. It's like you're so comfortable with that one person, and when that doesn't work out, you try to find someone just like that to take their place. But it's not the same and you're constantly comparing them to each other, and you want your first love back. I love the line where he says, "I loved you, gray sweat pants, no make up..." To me, that's the way love should be. You SHOULD be comfortable enough with your bf/gf to be seen not made up, and still have them love you all the same. Anyways, just my thoughts, sorry it was so long!!!
