Lyrics for All Apologies as interpreted by bonj

All Apologies Lyrics
What else should I be
All apologies
What else should I say
Everyone is gay
What else could I write
I don't have the right
What else should I be
All apologies

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
buried

I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest of salt
Everything is my fault
I'll take all the blame
Aqua seafoam shame
Sunburn with freezerburn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy
All in all is all we are (x14)

i dont think this song has any real meaning,as such.
What else should I be-------i think he hated the limelight
All apologies
What else should I say------fans are waiting for him to say something outrageous
Everyone is gay
What else could I write-----more than likely had no lyrics.
I don't have the right------he thinks he does not have the right to influence people
What else should I be
All apologies

In the sun I feel as one----i think he loved being alone.

i think kurt is pissing himself, the joke is on all of us.hhahhhha

'In utero' was front loaded with all the 'tunes' and descends into a dissonant squall towards the end (which I love).

It was a deliberate attempt to alienate the very people that had bought their records and put them where they were. The Album finishes with 'All apologies'. Basically a sarcastic retort to all the mugs who liked them for their 'pretty songs' and had bought this album, scratching their heads going WTF?!

It's like he's saying 'Not what you expected? Nevermind II? Sorry guys.....' with a wry grin on his face.

PS I think 'In Utero' is head and shoulders above 'Nevermind'

Everyone comes so close to getting this song, but are off by just a bit. Firstly, yes, this is akin to a suicide note. It's position at the end of In Utero is no accident, it's Kurt's final message to the world

"What else should I be
All apologies"

Most get this, this is like, what else can I be? To put it in today's terms, should I be like Pearl Jam and just make forgettable records a decade after anyone cares about them anymore, or be like U2 and criss cross between techno and saving the world?

"What else should I say
Everyone is gay"

Many times Kurt wrote in an abstract and intuitive way. And other times, he was blatantly direct. This is one of those times. This line has nothing to do with being happy or whatever bullshit people are telling themselves. It means exactly what you all deep down know it means. Everyone has homoerotic feelings. Everyone. Get over it. So what else do you cretins want me to say? How about this!

"What else could I write
I don't have the right"

He mentioned in his suicide note that he didn't have the right to write music if he no longer felt the passion anymore.

"What else should I be
All apologies

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
buried"

Most people get this. The sun is the equivalent of being dead, and feel as one is being free. Married and buried? Maybe that's what comes to us all? Or maybe that's what makes you feel as one? Or perhaps both. Nirvana lyrics frequently had double meanings

"I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest of salt"

He wishes he could be like most people, and be happy with their TV's and beer and strip clubs. Or be like most celebrities, and be happy with the money, fame, drugs, and whores. He can't

"Everything is my fault
I'll take all the blame"

Again, this is very direct, and means exactly what it seems. No one is responsible for Kurt's suicide besides Kurt, and no one should feel responsible. This seems like it could be sarcastic, but it's not. Sarcasm generally doesn't litter suicide notes, sincerity does (as well as self-loathing)

"Aqua seafoam shame
Sunburn with freezerburn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy"

This is a little tougher, as it's very much on the abstract side. "Aqua seafoam shame" would seem to indicate shame that goes out to the ocean like ashes. "Sunburn with freezerburn" seems to indicate something akin to a double edge sword, or between a rock and a hard place. You get burned both ways. Maybe that's how he viewed being a famous band versus being an underground band? And "choking on the ashes of her enemy" would seem to go in line with "aqua seafoam shame," meaning the ashes of the enemy of mother nature will go out to be part of it. It's a self-loathing view. It has nothing to do with Courtney Love.

"All alone is all we are (x14)"

I changed it to what it really says. "All in all is all we are" means absolutely nothing. "All alone is all we are" means exactly what it says. We're all alone in this world. He says it very clearly, especially at the last line when the instruments go off. Listen closely to Kurt's final message to the world if you want to know what All Apologies says

This song is about a bitterness towards others expetations on him and the lyric's What else should I say
Everyone is gay is him mocking what society would want him to say. He is angry at the idea of having to always apologize for everything he is.

This song is quite controversal for me

its the last one of in utero album, the darkest and deeper album of nirvana ever, and this music is beaultifull and armonic, differing from heart shaped box and rape me, from the same album, that make u feel crazy...

anyway the lirics talk about what he felt on marriage: im married/ buried : for him, being married (waybe on a general way or with courtney) was a death sentence

the other verses are quite ironic

I think that this song has a lot to do w/ Courtney Love. I think it is his way of talking a/b him, the way he thinks, his past, his drug addiction, & how he looked & felt a/b his own life-CONFUSED!! I think some people can relate to this song from their own personal experiences also.

MY FAVORITE NIRVANA SONG!! His Bio is great!! I think people need to read it it helped me understand him & his music!!

MAKING MONEY RIGHT NOW!!!
INCREDIBLY EASY MONEY(IT WORKS).!!!
it work for me.
This is the way the original post appeared when I first found it.
In days you will make money (it takes only $6 dollars).!!!
A while ago I was browsing through various message: got my attention, "Making Money Fast".
Before I read it, I figured it was one of those things where you
have to do something questionable and you get like $5 a sites,
just like you're doing now. I saw this one message, similar
to this one that I'm now writing. It was the topic that week or something really crappy. When I looked at the message, it said I could make thousands of dollars by investing only $6!!! AND I would start bringing in the money almost right away. Still certain that it must be a joke, I read on. Anyway, to make a long, exciting, money making story short, I followed the instructions (I copied them down for you below), decided I could go ahead and waste 6 bucks which I'd probably never see again, and, well? It's just amazing if you ask me. I've already doubled that six dollars about a zillion times over...oh yeah, the other thing is that I still wasn't sure of the legality of it all. I called the questions line of the U.S. Postal Service (1-800-725-2161) just to make sure that the place where I read the Postal Service said it's legal was telling the truth (and it is indeed perfectly not against the law), and I've heard from other people that this is also legal in Britain and Canada (and must be in loads of other countries too).Other people have been doing this, and raking in the thousands just as I have. I haven't exactly kept track, but an example
: from another person:
: Week 1: About $25
: Week 2: Over $1,000
: Week 3: Over$10,000 Week 4: Just over $42,000 I've been putting
: mine in the bank at a high interest rate since I got enough for
: one of those accounts, and am now getting even more money.
: Forget about playing the lottery and not even being sure that
: you'll win. Anyway, here's what you do to get loads of money
: (you may want to print this so you can start carrying it out
: right away):
: STEP 1: Get 6 separate pieces of paper. On each piece of paper,
: write these words: PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING ADDRESS. Then
: also put your name and address on each sheet of paper.
: STEP 2: Get six U.S. $1 bills (or, if you're not so lazy, the
: currency of the country of the address you're writing to). Wrap
: each of the pieces of paper around each of the dollar bills.
: This can also help prevent the money being seen through the
: envelope so it's not stolen (as if anyone would steal $1 out of
: the mail anyway).
: STEP 3: Get six stamped envelopes. Place the paper and money in
: the envelopes. You should now have 6 sealed envelopes, each with
: a piece of paper stating the above phrase, your name and
: address, and a $1.00 bill. What you are doing by this is
: creating a service. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!
: STEP 4: Mail the 6 envelopes to the following addresses:
: #1) B.J. Grissin 76 Falkirk Ave Wellington 6003 New Zealand
:#2) C.A. Spaniel 6503 Ranchito Av Van Nuys, CA 90401-1537
#3) Matt Frank 6/17 Poate Rd NSW 2021 Australia
: #4) Ariel Skye, 20 Franciscan Way, St. Augustine, FL 32084-5308
: #5) Kath Jackson, 2 Crest Crt. Salisbury East. SA 5109 Australia.
: #6) Kavika Ulrey, 7490 Battlecreek, Salem,OR 97317
: PART II: Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above,
: move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, etc..) and
: add YOUR Name as number 6 on the list.
: Change anything you need to, but try to keep this article as
: close to original as possible.
: Now, post your amended article on at least 200 newsgroups on the
: Internet. (I believe there are close to 24,000 groups.)
: All you need is 200; but, remember: the more you post, the more
: money you make!
: DIRECTIONS FOR HOW TO POST TO NEWSGROUPS
: Step 1) You do not need to re-type this entire letter to do your
: own posting. Simply put your cursor at the beginning of this
: letter and drag your cursor to the bottom of this document, and
: select 'copy' from the edit menu. This will copy the entire
: letter into the computer memory.
: Step 2) Open a blank Notepad file and place your cursor at the
: top of the blank page. From the 'edit' menu select 'paste'. This
: will paste a copy of the letter into Notepad so that you can add
: your name to the list.
: Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a '.txt' file. If you want
: to do your postings in different sittings, you'll always have
: this file to go back to.
: Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for
: various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites,
: discussions.)
: Step 5) Visit these message boards and post this article as a
: new message by highlighting the text of this letter and
: selecting paste from the edit menu.
: Fill in the Subject, this will be the header that everyone sees
: as they scroll through the list of postings in a particular
: group, click the post message button. You're done with your
: first one!
: Congratulations...THAT'S IT! All you have to do is jump to
: different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of
: it, and it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup!
: REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU
: WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200.
: That's it! You will begin receiving money from around the world
: within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O. Box due to
: the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay
: anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman
: will deliver it.
: JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT. Now the WHY Part:
: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low
: example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the letter.
: Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the
: MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons
: respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for
: me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4
: and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00!
: Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with
: my name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an
: additional $625.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those
: 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and
: they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!!
: Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200
: newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200
: newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original
: investment of only $6.00! ($5 + $25 + $125 + $625 +$3,125 +
: $15,625 = $19,530 in just 6 levels of the plan!) AMAZING! When
: your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest
: posting in the Newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names
: on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start
: posting again. The thing to remember is, do you realize that
: thousands of people all over the world are joining the Internet
: and reading these articles everyday, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So
: can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works??
: I think so... People have said, "What if the plan is played out
: and no one sends you the money?" So what! What are the chances
: of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and
: new honest people who are joining the Internet and newsgroups
: every day and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at
: 20,000 to 50,000 new users, every day, with thousands of those
: joining the actual Internet. Remember, play FAIRLY and HONESTLY
: and this will work 100%.
: Peace for all

This song is about someone who apoligizes for the things that he says and does, but he continues to do them regardless. Eventually she starts to doubt his sincerety. If he was really sorry then why does he continue to do the same thing over and over. She starts to understand that he truly isn't sorry. She never saw him express true remorse. He didn't seem sorrowful when he saw her in pain. He knows she has low self-esteem and has a hard time standing up for herself. He only seemed sorry to see the consequences of his abusive behaviour. He reverts back to his abusive behaviour as soon as he thinks he can get away with it again. She eventually understands that he isn't that man she thought he was. She keeps clinging to the hope that she's wrong about him. He's still really the man she first met. She starts to accept reality for it is.He doesn't love her. Because love always protects.

well, kurt usually had songs that left people baffled as to what they meant, but i believe this one is about the craptacularness of marriage. being married to courtney love would make anyone dislike the whole idea of marriage. it could be a general look at it though. apologies having to be made by the man, even when he didn't really do anything wrong. also in the second verse, he may be talking about escaping the bullshit through drugs. for years i thought the line "aqua seafoam shame" was "ah/oh, deceitful shame" which made a little more sense than seafoam shame. but either way... and the last line i always thought it was "All we know is all we are" too...oh well... very sad little ditty. so...do any of you think some of these songs were a cry for help? i seriously think cortney murdered him (or had someone else do it). anyone else think the same?

when he says "all in all is all we are" it makes me think about how we always judge people's lives and our own as a summary (all in all) of what we've done, but our lives are really about so much more than that

i'd like to think that's how Kurt intended it anyways

this is the song that made me like nirvana, hearing it at the stupid age of 12, my interpretation was stupid and it has not changed over the past three years, but i think i'm on to something, maybe, idk, but i like my interpretation!

What else should I be
All apologies
-to me, this is him saying, sorry, i'm not perfect, what do you want from me?

What else should I say
Everyone is gay
-this is a confusing line, but i like to think that he's just saying all you haters that want me to be perfect, your all gay! since thats wut lots of guys like to tell other guys...

What else could I write
I don't have the right
-i think maybe it could be about how as a famous person knowing other famous ppl, he is expected to gossip but he's above that, or it could be about how ppl want him to write more mainstream stuff and he thinks its not fair to his band or his fans

What else should I be
All apologies
-hes just saying sorry again

In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
I'm married
buried
- this is him saying when im high, i feel as one, and then he feels buried in his marriage... well duh, hes married to Courtney Love!

I wish I was like you
Easily amused
-talking to someone that's easily amused, not as deep a thinker, someone that can blissfully go through life

Find my nest of salt
Everything is my fault
- i think hes talking about drugs when he says nest of salt, and hes just saying that he feels everythings his fault, guilt for everything hes done and caused and how the drugs have effected others

I'll take all the blame
Aqua seafoam shame
-...... i think hes just describing his blame.... im sure it made sense in his mind...

Sunburn with freezerburn
-sunburned from sitting in the sun(just wiped out from drugs) i think freezerburn describes how crappy he feels out of the sun (when hes not high)

Choking on the ashes of her enemy
-im just going to make an educated guess... hes choking on his own ashes cuz he knows courtney love is going to kill him

All in all is all we are (x14)
-we are who we are. period.

i think this song is about being who you are regardless of what the world whats you to be everyone is just them and we dont have the right to say their wrong for judgeing us just like they dont have the right to say we're wrong about the world because we could sit there and apologise all day but it wouldnt change anything

Choking on the ashes of her enemy__mabe about people who try to burn the ones he loves but they just end up looking dumb and burning themselves

thats how i feel about it

also understanding that just by saying this will probubly void my opinion (if you havnt already) i kinda think courtney got him hooked

Ive seen loads of interviews where Kurt has said he found himself having to come up with explanations for words and lyrics hes wrote when he didnt even really know himself why he wrote them!!! Its proof that people read too far into it and half the time kurt was writing material based on whatever came into his head at the time. Thats how lyrics should be in my opinion.
