aqua seafoam shame--describeing his guilt--he is blue
sunburn with freezer burn--when she is "sunburned"--high..his guilt makes him feel bad, he becomes "freezer burned"--ashamed--blue/cold
ashes of her enemy--proof he knows drugs do her harm
all in all is all we are--they are both stars who are hooked on drugs....
He actually explains his guilt in the first verse...but that is done extreamly vague

--asking if he should not be a star because he isn't a role modle

--asking if you blame him for being what we all want him to be...a rebell--for lack of a better word

--it isn't his job to say Courtney is hooked on drugs though he admits he is---this meaning might be off..its an interesting line..but it would fallow with my theroy.

I know everyone who wrote what they think the song about is probably really smart, smarter than me, but you guys are all way too analytical. Kurt Cobain wrote this song a long time before he even met Courtney Love. And Courtney Love was doing drugs a long time before she met Kurt Cobain. It doesn't have anything to do with her. And I can see how someone could think that it was about Courtney Love, (I'm married/buried) but I really think it was a stretch to say that it was about him got her hooked onto drugs. Now that I've said that, I have to say I don't really know what the song is about. Unless Kurt told someone, he was vague to the point where no one could figure out exactly what he meant. And I'm not criticizing him for it; I think it proves his integrity just a little bit more because he didn't write an obvious song just so it would be more mainstream and people would get it. It could have been about his own negative view about marriage from childhood, since his parents got divorced when he was nine. It could be about so many things, which I think makes it a better song because more people could relate to it based on their own experiences.

This song was deliberately placed last on the last album they would release before Kurt finally killed himself. He's taking the blame for all the trouble he caused and saying he's sorry as part of his final goodbye. See what I wrote about "Heart-Shaped Box."

Beth is right and wrong. It's about Courtny and Francis Bean, but it's not about drugs. All the stuff in the song is about how they fought all the time. And "Bite Me", nobody knew that Kurt was gonna snap and actuallty do, and those who did didnt plain anything, cause if they did people would have been watching out for him.

I think Beth is right. COurtney did a whole of a lot of drugs before she met kurt. She dated Billy before and they probably did drugs... she always dated celebrities so she could boost her own career. Anyways... I think i read somewhere that Kurt wrote it before he met Courtney but maybe he didnt.. Anyways if it was about her its probably more about Francis Bean.. he was so sick of Courtney.. before he died (OR WAS KILLED) he was going to divorce her.

Kurdt's songs have alot of meaning, and usually he dosen't come right out and smack you with what he is trying to say. I will get the quote wrong but it goes something like this. "When I write a song the lyrics are the least important thing" -Kurdt With that said, his least of importance was still a thing of greatness

I think this song is about not living up to someone else's standards. "What else should I be/ all apologies" sounds like he's saying he's sorry for not being what someone else expects him to be. just my opinion.

I'm not sure about the second verse, but I believe the first verse is describing how he has no effect on anything. There is nothing he can do to make a difference.

This song is a song that should mean whatever you want it to mean. It could have so many meanings. To me though, it's saying alot. each line has new meaning to me. but i can relate to it the most when i'm feeling trapped, like no one likes me, when i have no idea what to write, when i feel like everyones blaming me for something that's not my fault. when i just want to crawl into a hole and never come out. when i'm feeling alone. but all in all, i think it's one of the greatest songs ever written.
