Serving the faith
Abduction the oath
It lie in wait for the offering

Religion is old
For drawing the young
Purity withers and dies
Never return to the ones that provided
Children draining parents of will
I hold out my hand to bloodless child
I'm taken by the one I was saving
From death

By demons be driven
Beckon the call

With decline in mind
End not far
We're left hanging alone here
He pulls us from nails
Shatters our bones
Leaving us crippled and strewn
Boiling my corpse in the blood of his children
Praying for his god to prevail
Burying us with loved ones
To sleep with shelled children of the sixth dimension

By demons be driven
Beckon the call

My Interpretation:Primarily he is taking a rebellious tone against religion and it's ineffectiveness at drawing today's youth. By demons be driven, is a song showing us that evil, drugs, bad qualities of man are more enticing and accepted than religion, they are the driving force behind people similar to him. Of course Phil was a big junkie so it's kinda interpreting his distorted view of life because he was surrounded by users and seen how difficult life can be and that's totally understandable. Overall I think this is one of the best tunes by Pantera.

dude phil is so not a christian. i just saw superjoint ritual in concert, and at the end he was like "man, i really wanna thank you guys for a being such a fuckin awesome audience. hail satan, fuck the world." and did a nazi salute with the mic in his hand a dropped it.

    i laughed my ass off.

    General Comment:i agree in part with everyone except fallschirmjäger;

whilst i don't know phil i get the impression that if he writes lyric like:
    'Because of heaven/hell
    A fucking wives' tale
They put it in your head
Then put you in your bed
    He's watching say your prayers
    Cause God is everywher, bullsh*t'
    - hostile, the live version;

he might not be a cristian

however the imagerey he uses is; though i don't know of the bible mentioning the 6th dimension- so thats probably just a referance to whatever sect he was raised in- prometh could you elabourate?

however he does seem to b talking about christendoms ideas of hell( i wont take the argument up here but theyre also non biblical) and arguing that unless you break free from organised religion you will go to hell, or more likeley aas in hostile he says hell oesnt exist, your life becomes a hell

General Comment:You can''t really look at pantera lyrics and say they advocate religion though. Read Heresy. The metal that IS christian loses much of its power when it pushes (either implicitly or explicitly) religious agendas. Pantera doesn't write they're lyrics as a way to say "Dont be religious", its more like "Dont force your religion on me".
