Lyrics for Three Peaches as interpreted by PLANES

Three Peaches Lyrics
So wake up, run your lips across your fingers until you find
Some scent of yourself that you can hold up high
To remind yourself that you didn't die
On a day that was so crappy, whole and happy you're alive

You seem so bruised
And it's beautiful as it's reflecting off from you as it shines
You're in the bathroom carving holiday designs into yourself
Hoping no one will find you, but they found you
And they took you
And you somehow survived

So wake up, and if the holidays don't hollow out your eyes
Then press yourself against whatever
You find to be beautiful and trembling with life
Because I'm so happy you didn't die

This song is obviously about a suicide attempt, but it's so hauntingly beautiful. Just the way Jeff Mangum sings "and you somehow survived" is amazing. The line "Press yourself against whatever/you find to be beautiful and trembling with life" reminds me of the message in "Aeroplane" -- "let us lay in the sun and count every beautiful thing we can see." It's about the search to be happy in a world that's often otherwise.

I agree whole-heartedly, not only about the meaning, but about Jeff's delivery as well. The song is rather chilling, a far cry from "Aeroplane".

i also agree that this song is about an attempt at suicide (a reoccuring theme in several of mangums lyrics). it is an eerie song that i can not get enough of! (i'm not suicidal or anything...)

i agree with everything and i think that the singer is saying im glad you didn't die...and he wants the "attemptee" to realize that he loves them and he wants them to see that...see the happiness..the beauty

When he sings, "I'm so happy you didn't die," in that voice that sounds anything but happy...I get chills. Every time. Chills!

This song is so blindingly beautiful.
I think there's a certain satirical element to it, it's confusing in a way that seems truthful and right?!
It reminds me a bit of Smashing Pumpkins-Today, because it's ironic it's positivity.
It's almost like you're living for others, pressing yourself against them, and trying to soak happiness up through them

I'd just like to note that the song opens with , what seems to be, "there is no dream." - and also add that this song feels filling. Doesn't it?

The repeated reference to "holidays" reminds me of how depressing the holidays can be... maybe it's the pressure of the holidays and seeing all the happiness around the person and feeling shut out from it is what drove the person to attempt suicide. (?)
But I don't really know.

i dont usually write but this was always my take on the holdiay thing:

for me atleast the holidays were a time when evryone got together and pretended everything in life was okay and everyone loved everything. so for me anyway it was always like he was saying if the bullshit doesnt eat your eyes, cling on to what you can.

These lyrics are incomplete.

You seem so bruised
And it's beautiful as it's reflecting off from you as it shines
You're in the bathroom carving holiday designs into yourself
Hoping no one will find you but they found you
And they took you
And you somehow survived

i definitely agree with everyone who's written already. The imagery of this song is really vivid. It's a really melancholy and pretty depressing song. It's beautiful in that he tells this person, "I'm so happy you didn't die."

I love Neutral Milk Hotel passionately, but I honestly don't like this song very much. I find that it seems rather pretentious. What is so great that she didn't die, except for that he did not want her to?

Eelsrule, I came onto this song to say EXACTLY that! I think of this song as the first attempt of making Oh Comely. It's totally different in meaning, but oh so similar in sound. Especially in between the verses! Theres one moment when they're exactly the same.

I agree with a lot of the previous comments, but I'm curious about the title. Was it three suicide attempts? It throws me, a bit. Anyone have better insight on it?

when he's singing "I'm so happy" the voice in the backround sounds like it's moaning "I'm so unhappy."

yeah it does sound like it's saying i'm so unhappy. maybe it has something to do with what someone said about people acting like everything is okay during holidays. how it's kind of underneath and in the background or whatever.

The title "Three Peaches" has to do with bruising, peaches bruise easily. "
You seem so bruised
And it's beautiful as it's reflecting off from you as it shines" is the reference to peaches.

Beautiful song, and I agree "You're in the bathroom carving holiday designs into yourself" has to do with the stress of holidays trying to pretend to be happy for your family.

i know this has nothing to do with this song, but it always makes me think of Richie Tenenbaum from the Wes Anderson film. great song.

It's chilling. It's perfect.

"To remind yourself that yoooou didn't diiiie on a day that was so scrappy, whole and happy, your alive."
That 'on' in that line just...gives me chills.

I'm gonna be honest, I didn't like the song all too much until I read the lyrics.
