Sweet communist
The communist daughter
Standing on the sea-weed water
Semen stains the mountain tops
Semen stains the mountain tops
With cocoa leaves along the border
Sweetness sings from every corner
Cars careening from the clouds
The bridges burst and twist around
And wanting something warm and moving
Bends towards herself the soothing
Proves that she must still exist
She moves herself about her fist
Sweet communist
The communist daughter
Standing on the sea-weed water
Semen stains the mountain tops
Semen stains the mountain tops

General Comment:My favourite song on the album. It reminds me of Syd Barretts style both lyrically and musically.

My Interpretation:Pretty obvious Jeff Mancum wants to ejaculate over Anne Frank's breasts (the mountain) The seaweed water represents seamen water, etc etc etc

General Comment:to me, it seems like this song is about the failure of communism. the "semen" on the mountain tops symbolizes what people like stalin and castro did to communism

General Comment:Let me just say that I may be crazy, but I got a whole new outlook to this album after hearing "Little Birds," which is about an angry father beating his gay son. This song, as well as several others, could partially parallel that idea, and if that is true, the "communist daughter" might just be what conservative parents think of a gay son, that he is both liberal (communist) and effeminate (daughter). Once again, I'm crazy.

General Comment:For those of you who mentioned Anne Frank, you're correct. Anne Frank is Jeff Magnum's muse and the entire album, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, is considered to be love songs directed at her. Listen to the album and it changes ENTIRELY with this knowledge. With that in mind, I mostly consider this to be about her experience with masturbation in her diary and to draw a parallel between her peaceful discovery of her own sexuality in the midst of the war state.

General Comment:My interpretation is similar to other's who have posted but basically I think it is about rape.

She is the daughter of someone and is a Communist. The Communist part means she gives all she has from the goodness of her heart, and only keeps enough to make by, which is Communism. However, she does this because she is innocent, and yet she is being exploited by her father (hence the daughter part), by being raped.

That isn't necessarily a unique interpretation to what other people have said, but that is what I got regardless.
