Leading everything along
Never far from being wrong
Never mind these things at all
It's nothing

Couldn't find a way to you
Seems that's all I ever do
Turning up in black and blue
Rewarded

All the static we all left

Wait until the time has come
Figure that's where time comes from
Leaving all my senses numb
Is heaven

Lifted up the fay to seen
Anything could never be
Anything but play to me
In order

Take it back for them to keep
Fallen into something deep
Not that I had made that leap
Anointed

Where have all the wishes gone
Now that all of that is done
Wish I would've felt I've won
For once

My Interpretation:It's quite literally throughout about the art of getting by, - living life just to get along, even if the person thinks of relatively important things like love - which he views pessimistically rewards him("couldn't find a way to you seems that's all I ever do turning up in black and blue, - rewarded") and success - which he views negatively yet hopefully, ("wish I would've felt I've won for once"). But he doesn't ever even try, and he keeps lingering on for that that something that never comes. Static represents the energy in the person, and that it has been thrown away "all the static, we all left". "leaving all my senses numb is heaven" - Shows that the person isn't comfortable with reality, he finds serenity in losing his senses of reality, and that's the reason he ends up just 'getting by', and just hoping reality would unveil it's importance to him, even though he never gives it a chance to(by acting on it,etc)."lifted up the fay to seen anything could never be anything but play to me in order" - The person views "fay" /tenser things of life to be something that holds him back and in turn, he takes everything/anything for "play" then what it truly is, which he usually views as fay and too tight, in which a lot of important things are in life.
"take it back for them to keep fallen into something deep not that I had made that leap... Annointed" He's knack of just getting by and not minding life, makes him view that others get to keep the things he wants, and then he feels bad and "deep" only to be reminded that he didn't deserve it because there was no "leap" by him and that makes mends him back to his "never minding" self by being"annointed". It's just my understanding of it all, and I couldn't resist because this is just such a deep like song that sounds unlike others. A personal favorite, and I can just sympathize with the lyrics. Very valuable and meaningful song.

General Comment:I agree with whoever said this song is repetitive (i fast-forward the beginning b/c I can't stand it) but it still rocks. you don't hear many tunes like this- quiet, sexy vocals (let's admit it girls!) and a loud, abrasive-sounding guitar. How ironic, yet how poetic. Absolutely love this.

General Comment:the first album's the only one worth speaking of. i think it basically sums up all of the confusion and emotion grohl was feeling after nirvana- it's bitterly personal, even more so since he played almost all the music on the record. it's frayed and intense under its catchy veneer and nothing else grohl or his band has done since comes close (POSSIBLE exception for "Everlong" ). this song sounds especially lost, grohl trying to find his way artistically and mentally through the frayed mess that once was grunge.

General Comment:hoooooooooooooooo-ly fuck, you guys. the discussion of Foo records on here is seriously blowing my fucking mind.

"The Colour and the Shape" is the best Foo Fighters album, hands fucking down. it's in the running for best album of this generation, as far as i'm concerned. it's untouchable.

the first album lacked the kind of scope that Dave showcased on later releases, namely TCATS and, yes, "There is Nothing Left to Lose", regardless of what you might think.

an aside: just because TINLTL is comprised of mostly slower materia does NOT mean it's not one of the Foo Fighters' finest releases. in fact, it definitely comes in a clean second-place after "The Colour...".

General Comment:love this song, brilliant guitar intro with a great bassline that kicks in, one of the best songs on the first album along with floaty and alone and easy target.

General Comment:This song is about coming home drunk and feeling fantastic but realizing that all of those amazing things you thought you had done the night before were actually quite ridiculous and embarassing. Basically saying that its time to stop doing beer bongs the first thing after waking up and get a life. This foo fighter song is FUCKING AWESOME!! I need a beer.

General Comment:Great drums on this one! Easy to play but damn - What a Sound! Don´t know who played it though, was it Dave?
I don´t realy get the meaning of the song, maybe it deals with people talking about doing things all the time but they never really dare to do them.
Or just about people who talk shit all the time, static, if you want.
My friend made me listen to this song more closely, now it kind of reminds me of him. Simplyin the way that we have the same taste of music not that he is talking shit or whatever, don´t get me wrong.
