Who loves the sun
Who cares that it makes plants grow
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Who loves the wind
Who cares that it makes breezes
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun

Who loves the rain
Who cares that it makes flowers
Who cares that it makes showers
Since you broke my heart

Who loves the sun
Who cares that it is shining
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Sun
Sun
Sun

Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Not everyone
Pa Pa Pa Pa
Who loves the sun

General Comment:I don't think this song is any way a rebuke of the Beatles' 'Here Comes The Sun' but the songs are funny contrasts as while both have uplifting melodies – the sun in Harrison’s song represents hope after a literal or metaphorical ‘long cold lonely winter’ while Reed’s sun represents just another essential element (it makes plants grow!) that doesn’t matter when you’re suffering from a broken heart. I like both songs but Reed’s sun song warms my cold heart more. It’s an interesting bookend with I’ll Be Your Mirror from the 1st album as that song has the love-seeking narrator quote “I’ll be the wind, the rain, and the sun” and Who Loves The Sun‘s love-lost narrator doesn’t care about any of the three. General Comment:I had never thought that it was a burn on the Beatles but now that you mention it...

I had always thought they were making fun of the Beach Boys for some reason but The Beatles makes much more sense. Love this song, the cough freaks me out and the chorus is so great.

General Comment:Wow, what can you say? Another amazing track written by Lou Reed, and he doesn't even bother to sing it. In fact, has he ever even performed it post-VU? Just shows what a great cache of songs he had in his back pocket back then.

As others have said, its real brilliance lies in just how sad the lyrics are, set to such an upbeat melody. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. That's all I can say.

General Comment:I reckon whatadrag has it bang on. The Velvets have created an unsettling disjunction between the jolly tune & the depressed lyrics. It's a poppier version of what they tried on Murder Mystery (where you get a sad lyric in one ear & a happy one in the other). The idea is you don't know whether to laugh or cry.

General Comment:I kind of disagree that the songwriter himself is being pessimistic here. I think it's more of a tongue-in-cheek message about how some people are only concerned with their own problems when they have a broken heart.
