Sit there, hmm, count your fingers.
What else, what else is there to do ?
Oh and I know how you feel,
I know you feel that you're through.
Oh wah wah ah sit there, hmm, count,
Ah, count your little fingers,
My unhappy oh little girl, little girl blue, yeah.

Oh sit there, oh count those raindrops
Oh, feel 'em falling down, oh honey all around you.
Honey don't you know it's time,
I feel it's time,
Somebody told you 'cause you got to know
That all you ever gonna have to count on
Or gonna wanna lean on
It's gonna feel just like those raindrops do
When they're falling down, honey, all around you.
Oh, I know you're unhappy.

Oh sit there, ah go on, go on
And count your fingers.
I don't know what else, what else
Honey have you got to do.
And I know how you feel,
And I know you ain't got no reason to go on
And I know you feel that you must be through.
Oh honey, go on and sit right back down,
I want you to count, oh count your fingers,
Ah my unhappy, my unlucky
And my little, oh, girl blue.
I know you're unhappy,
Ooh ah, honey I know,
Baby I know just how you feel.

This song always brings tears to my eyes when I'm singing it with her recording. You can just feel the pain man. It captivates you in this song. In the end though you know you aren't alone in this. Because she tells you she knows how you feel.

My mom died April 7th, 2016. She requested this song be played at her funeral. Im an addict struggling to get clean. I know she played this for me. I miss her so much.

It looks pretty dry as raw lyrics; this one has to be heard. It's so intensely sad, moving, and sums-up Janis' life; the lonely girl behind the don'-gimme-no-shit exterior. This is definitely the other side of her from Ego Rock!

Libraquarius is absolutely right. Nothing to add really, but the last line of the song is also the best and gets me pretty much every time.

It amazes me that so many Janis fans have never heard this song. I think its probably one of her finest pieces. I first discovered this song one night, listening to my Kosmic Blues record and cleaning my house on a fall evening. I've loved it ever since. I feel like Janis is sitting next to me and singing it with me. LOL and I just realized that I am one year older than Janis was when she died. :(

She actually picked this up from Nina Simone.

I get the feeling that she's not singing to me but to herlself. Even if lines like "I know how you feel" could contradict this, it's like she's making a distance dividing herself in two while pondering her situation so it hurts less (sort of like in "The man who sold the world").

And I could say the same about Nina Simone's version, but in that one you don't get the "smile while crying" vibe Janis' song gives. You could say this is provided by the guitar, but somehow it's also her performance.

    My Interpretation

i never heard this song before, until 2010, when i was in my 40's. i closed my eyes, and felt the lonliness of a mother wishing she could hold her missed child as she imagined she was rocking that child. i knew just how she must have felt. "Somebody got to tell you cause you ought to know.. my unhappy littl girl blue....i know your unhappy.. baby i know just how you feel... it was a lullabye.. for a child with little fingers.. a secret lullaby

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
