Yeah, sing the song, Bro'

If the sun refuse to shine,
I don't mind, I don't mind,
If the mountains fell in the sea,
let it be, it ain't me.
Alright, 'cos I got my own world to look through,
And I ain't gonna copy you.

Now if 6 turned out to be 9,
I don't mind, I don't mind,
Alright, if all the hippies cut off all their hair,
I don't care, I don't care.
Dig, 'cos I got my own world to live through
And I ain't gonna copy you.

White collared conservative flashing down the street,

Pointing their plastic finger at me.
They're hoping soon my kind will drop and die,
But I'm gonna wave my freak flag high, high.
Wave on, wave on
Fall mountains, just don't fall on me
Go ahead on Mr. Business man, you can't dress like me.
Sing on Brother, play on drummer.

General Comment:I used to think that he said instead of Fall mountains just dont fall in me - "Follow my ideal, but just don't follow me" and I think that is way cooler LOL!

^Just a brief comment; the band Placebo used this verse here when they'd perform Nancy Boy, Brian(Molko) would recite it during the bridge. YouTube search "Nancy Boy live HQ", and it's the first video I believe. Fit the song well. <3 That is all.

General Comment:I think it can have multiple meanings. Firstly, in relation to formal education. He doesn't care if he makes mistakes, misreads a literal 6 for a 9, or if he's seen as an intellectual. Second, I think it refers to people who put on the appearance of being Hippies but were just wearing the clothes and following the trend. Third, mistaking a man for a woman (long hair, etc.), an obvious allusion to 60's counter-culture. And fourth, 6 and 9 together are the Yin-Yang symbol, opposite forces being a necessary part of the whole.

James Allen Hendrix (J.A.H) later changed by his dad to James Marshall Hendrix
in rastafarism jah is the name of god.

"he talked for a while about a song he had written called "If Six Was Nine". He told me that there was a cosmic meaning to that song, hidden in the two numbers six and nine. Jimi said that these numbers together are a very powerful force, and he drew them within each other. It looked like a spiral when he added more rays, the individual rays as well as the whole form spinning to the right. He said the sign with nine rays in it is the symbol of a very high spiritual power which is coming towards the earth.Jimi then made another sketch with four spiral rays pointing leftwards, telling me that this symbol is a negative one, because its rays point to the left.He told me that the arrival of the positive power would bring about a great change on our planet. Love, peace and brotherhood among the peoples on Earth would start to blossom again, just as they in the ancient civilization of Atlantis. He said that the signs of the beginning of these events would be when significant unexpected changes started to happen in the world. But he also pointed out that we, the people, would also have to become active and anticipate bringing about these positive changes for ourselves and our world. He explained that people on Earth have been asleep for too long and an awakening is beginning to happen to the people as this higher power approaches our world. "

General Comment:This song is truly about freedom and doing your own thing no matter what social groups prevail, no matter social class, what is hip, what people put you down or if the world is upside down. If everyone lived as themselves and weren't influenced by everything and everyone around them people would live simplier and happier. Everything is okay as long as you've got your individuality.

General Comment:anyone that thinks this song is about a sex position obviously came to that conculsion after only looking at the title of the song without listening to the lyrics lol.

I always thought this song was about conformist and that you should be yourself. I think the line "If a 6 turned out to be a 9" means: someone fake pretending to be something there not, like conformist posers.

General Comment:One of Jimi's gr8est songs. When he says "I'm gonna wave my freak flag high" my interpertation Is that for the hippie culture - their "freak flag is their long hair, and the proudly "wave it high.

General Comment:Basically, Jimi was a smart man who wanted to have fun. This song proves how eloquent his song lyrics were. The message he's trying to send a long is pretty simple "I'm going to do things my way, no matter what you think"
