I was angry when I met you
I think I'm angry still
We can try and talk it over
If you say you'll help me out

Don't worry baby
No need to fight
Don't worry baby
We'll be alright

This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches
Push it, make the beats go harder
Push it, make the beats go harder

Sorry that I hurt you
Please don't ask me why
I want to see you happy
I want to see you shine

Don't worry baby
Don't be uptight
Don't worry baby
We'll stay up all night

This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches
Push it, make the beats go harder
Push it, make the beats go harder

Come on push it, you can do it
Come on prove it, nothing to it
Come on use it, lets get through it
Come on push it, you can do it

Don't worry baby
Don't be uptight
Don't worry baby
We'll stay up all night

This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches
Push it, make the beats go harder
Push it, make the beats go harder
(This is the noise that keeps me awake)
Push it, make the beats go harder
(My head explodes and my body aches)
Push it, make the beats go harder
(This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches)

Don't worry baby
We'll be alright
Don't worry baby
We'll be alright

Push it [Repeat: x4]

Song Meaning:This can be about having a discussion with somebody and how exciting it's, how the confrontation of ideologies makes your heart beat faster! And I like thinking this way!

For me the music video also gives some clues about it as there are references to commonly discussed themes such as religion and extraterrestrial life form. Maybe it's an alternative idea of the song behind the original meaning.

General Comment:To me its obvious that this song is about drugs. push it is referring to pushing with a needle. make the beats go harder is saying that she does cocaine. my head explodes and my body aches, feelings you get when you are shooting coke. we'll stay up all night is cuz you stay up when you do coke. As a ex-user its easy to identify a drug song when i hear one, no doubt in my mind it is about shooting cocaine.

General Comment:to me, this song can be interpreted as the inner conflict of a self-injurer. if youre trying not to cut, the only noise you hear is the nagging urge to cut. and it can keep you up all night. then your head explodes and you cut. which makes your body ache. as you cut, you tell yourself "come on push it, you can do it" and then it will be alright.

General Comment:Yeah, I agree with vael. Especially if you look at the video...she keeps hurting him again and again and she's the one who leads herself to do it. (when she goes out in the cemetery away from her kids b/c she sees the guy with the mask and the person with the mask ends up being her)
It's an amazing video and it's still taking me forever to really understand it.

General Comment:I really don't think that it is about sex. In my opinion, "Push It" is about a relationship which is filled with conflict. She feels really sorry about her aggressiveness, but when the chorus approaches, it comes back and a voice inside tells her to fight. She feels dead without the conflict.

"This is the noise that keeps me awake
My head explodes and my body aches
Push it (make the beats go harder)
Push it (make the beats go harder)"

Either she cannot take it anymore (head explodes, body aches) when she represses the urge to conflict or it describes the kick to fight.

General Comment:Personally I think this song is about having a fight with someone and getting angry, and loving it.

When she sings the stuff like "Sorry that I hurt you.. etc" she is being sarcastic and patronizing, like you would in a heated argument with someone. And when she sings the chorus "this is the noise that keeps me awake..." she is singing about how much she loves the part when both people crack and go crazy and angry.

"Push it, make the beats go harder" - Basically, keep pushing me. Make my heart beat faster/harder, I like it. Make me angry. Piss me off.

Soooo like.. She is singing about how everyone is programmed to be excited by a little action. It's human nature I guess.. So whether you like it or not, everyone likes arguing. Everyone likes being pissed off and pissing others off.

Maybe that's just from a teenagers point of view..

    Oh well

    Good song.

General Comment:I thought "beats" was "tears" =s

And that the song was all about fame and the rise to it; that she's sorry she hurt all the people she did on her rise to fame, and all the stress.

with "tears" i thought it could be acting, using a bad experience to further your career - she's telling herself not to worry, 'cos she'll stay up all night rehearsing lines "making it better"

    Meh.

    meh,

General Comment:Yeah ... it's beats. Love this song, though I'd never really pondered it's meaning before. Make-up sex works for me though.

General Comment:Ahhh, Push It... One of my fav G songs. It rocks hardcore! Could be about make-up sex, I assume.

Also, I agree with you, binni. The video is totally CRAZY, which is why I love it so goddamn much. (The nuns in the supermarket, the man with a lightbulb as a head, all the psychedelic creatures...) YAYNESS!!

As for hunter_benedict, you're completely wrong. Shirl is not a lesbian, and that's about it. Period.
