I think it is about herself somewhat (and about other girls, since they can relate very much), and I think she is angry at herself for being the way she is, but she can't really change it. I mean, how many times have we all though "OH GOD, why did I do that! I'm so dumb/stupid/fucked up.!". I know I've thought that plently of times and sometimes we just can't help but fuck things up for ourselves. Or maybe she's still talking about herself, but she's looking back on a way she used to be but has grown passed that and now sees how stupid it is to be like that.

this song is about my x gf she is nothing but a stupid girl. she always thinks she is in love which is b.s. this song is exactly about her. she tells me all this stuff that she says she did while we were going out but she didnt tell me then so i wouldnt get mad, so that covers the faked it part. anyway yeah she is just a stupid girl!

i feel just like shirley...but shes dumb cuz shes a very talented beautiful person, i dont understand how she could ever be depressed for long...
This song is WAY too slow for my taste but i listen to it often because i feel it. I pretend..i just want to be good at something, but i end up failing (in my opinion) and feeling stupid and depressed...im a major FAKE ::crys::

I love this song.It's probably my favourite Garbage song. But I think it's about people in general.Not boys,girls or popular people.Just people,because by nature we're pretty damn stupid,and most of us will do anything to be loved by a certain person or people.

It's about all the celebrities, that just go with the flow, and follow a formulla for succes, instead of just being themselves. They just get told what to do, and how to act, by their mannager. They fake it, and are only in it, for the monney and fame.
