I can't use what I can't abuse
And I can't stop when it comes to you
You burned me out but I'm back at your door like Joan of Arc coming
Back for more
[Chorus]
I nearly died
I nearly died
I nearly died
I came to cut you up
I came to knock you down
I came around to tear your little world apart I came to shut you up
I came to drag you down
I came around to tear your little world apart and break your soul apart
You burn and burn to get under my skin
You've gone too far now I won't give in
You crucified me but I'm back in your bed like Jesus Christ coming
Back from the dead
[Chorus: x2]
Tear your little world apart
And break your soul apart
I can't stop when it comes to you
I can't stop when it comes to you
When it comes to you
When it comes to you
And I can't stop when it comes to you
You burned me out but I'm back at your door like Joan of Arc coming
Back for more
[Chorus]
I nearly died
I nearly died
I nearly died
I came to cut you up
I came to knock you down
I came around to tear your little world apart I came to shut you up
I came to drag you down
I came around to tear your little world apart and break your soul apart
You burn and burn to get under my skin
You've gone too far now I won't give in
You crucified me but I'm back in your bed like Jesus Christ coming
Back from the dead
[Chorus: x2]
Tear your little world apart
And break your soul apart
I can't stop when it comes to you
I can't stop when it comes to you
When it comes to you
When it comes to you

I think this song is about a complicated human being, that when enters in a relationship with someone there are problems (there's a wide range of what it could be: like you feel it's difficult to love, you're not used to love, unprepared..., when it's hard to show your love or support the one you're with, when it's complicated to deal with your feelings, etc) but the main reason I think when I listen to this song is that you live a life where you get disappointed by your lover by whatever happened, and also maybe you don't know how to deal with your humor and it affects your relationship.
In the song she sings she is having difficulties and tells him how she will bring him down with them and also about how she makes a relationship complicated and the partner is bringing her down because he doesn't know how to deal with her. Even so you truly love the person you are with, so no matter how you're disappointed or this person is not enough for you, you keep coming back to him/her.
I'm atheist so I usually don't like religion references in songs but this one gave me chills:
"You crucified me but I'm back in your bed / like Jesus Christ coming back from the dead"
It summarizes the song as I interpret it: the partner doesn't know how to deal with her and brings her down, she is very affected by this, she nearly dies! Actually she dies (psychologically, she is very weak) she understands in the end that she is a very hard person and still loves him unconditionally because *it isn't his fault*, so she forgives and comes back. And this is exactly how the crucification of Jesus Christ was (hypothetically, as I don't believe Jesus existed) - Jesus/God love and forgive romans. This part, "I'm back at your bed", together with "I can't stop when it comes to you" support my vision she loves the person.
So when I listen to this I don't think about revenge at all, even when the band itself explained it's about vengeance, I know how this theme would fit in some parts of the song but not in others. Isn't it strange how the meaning can differ from person to person?
It's a very complicated song, and the sound of the band is aways amazing, I love it!
I haven't understood...
the sound of the panning distorted guitars is great for a speedball. ;)
people often use the combination of combining the ideas of love and drugs. robert palmer's "addicted to love" for example (just the easiest). obviously this is a truism -- sometimes, as in this song, even to masochistic levels.
either way, i can attest it can sometimes be damn near impossible to stop.
Whatever the details are, the main idea is clear: "you fucked me over, and you're going to pay".
That's my take.
but maybe the meaning is double"
I think the song actually personifies drugs, giving it a human quality. If you think about it, drugs can "tear your little world apart", but just not in the literal sense. The same goes to the part "And break your soul apart". So I definitely think it's about drug addiction. :D
The feeling keeps coming back for more pain. She also refers to Joan of Arc, and you could say that Joan of Arc killed herself by continuing to speak "the word of god"... If she had stopped, she would have lived...
The razors burn to get under her skin... And it tears her world apart.
But this is only my opinion... This is how I know it feels, and I can relate to this song in many ways...
Beautiful song, great band and Shirley manson is brilliant!
