Splintered piece of glass falls in the seat, gets caught
Broken windows, open locks, reminders of the youth we lost
In trying so hard to look away from you
We followed white lines to the sunset
Crash my car everday the same way
Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time runs through our veins
(Starts and stops and starts and stops again)
We dont stand a chance in this threadbare time
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done
I dont want to feel this way forever
A dead letter marked, return to sender
Broken watch you gave to me turns into a compass
Its two hands still point to the same time 12:03, our last goodbye
So push the seats back a little further
I can see the headlights coming
So push the seats back a little further
Roll the windows down and take a breath
I can see the headlights coming
They paint the world in red and broken glass
Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time runs through our veins
(Starts and stops and starts and stops again)
We dont stand a chance in this threadbare time
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done
I dont want to feel this way forever
A red letter marked, return to sender
Spinning hubcaps set the tempo for the music of the broken window
Cameras on and the cameras click
We open up the lens and cant stop
Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done
I dont want to feel this way forever
The lights are on, and the cameras click
We open up the lens
(The broken glass)
Staring at the setting sun
(And its over)
No reason to come back again
(In a flash)
The twilight world in blue and white
(Understanding)
The needle and the damage done
(Ill never understand)
I dont want to feel this way forever
(Understanding, in a car crash)
A red letter marked, return to sender

By the way, this may seem like a very immature question to ask but I keep hearing this metalheads saying "emos don't mosh at concerts, they just stand there and slowly step side to side." Is this true? Haha please don't 'hate on me' or anything like that. It's just a light-hearted question, though I am very curious about this...
Sorry, but the emo-subculture fascinates me to no end. I've always loved alternative rock and post-hardcore - "screamo" and I've gotten into 90's and early 2000s emotive hardcore recently. I just LOVE it. It's so unique compared to a lot of music these days. I can't believe more people don't like this kind of music. The themes of these songs are so easy to relate to and the songs are very honest. Maybe they are TOO honest for some people. I adore the bands "I Hate Myself", "Embrace", "Jimmy Eat World", and of course "Sunny Day Real Estate". "Rites of Spring" are more punk in my opinion, but they still have that raw emotion in their music. Emotive Hardcore rocks! But at the same time has sweet melodies and riffs and beautiful song meanings. I don't know why bands didn't like being placed under that genre. Perhaps they didn't want to be labelled at all. And fair enough.
But you gotta admit, (this isn't related to emocore music) it's funny and hypocritical how people who dress in a certain style absolutely HATE being called any name concerning style, even though they know deep down that is the image they are trying to convey. Honestly, I don't mind being called 'emo' or 'punk' or 'scene' because I know that the image that I present does fall under these categories to some extent. e.g. I have black hair, I wear bright bows, converse, skinny jeans, dresses with lace and ballerina dress material, lots of celtic-looking rings and I wear eyeliner and I listen to that kind of music. If someone thinks I look "emo" then fine. If they want to put a label on what influences my style, then admit it; I do dress emo-ish (if that's a word). And I love dressing that way.
(By the way, when I say 'emo subculture' I'm talking about true emos, not the posers who feign self-harm and post depressing pictures of themselves on MySpace. In fact I know a girl who used to seriously cut herself, almost bone-deep, because it was the only way for her to feel anything since everyday seemed empty to her - she had a LOT of difficult situations and issues in her life. And no, she didn't wear eyeliner and black, she actually dressed in a Christina Agulera-type style because self-harm can happen to ANYONE, not specifically people who dress in the emo fashion and listen to emotive hardcore. The wannabe emos that do this turn these true victims of self-harm into a joke and it's awful.)
Wow, I have gone so far off topic. Oh well, none of my friends would be interested to hear what I have to say about this so I hope some bored teenager has gained some ounce of entertainment from reading this. Over and out.
i dont want to feel this was forever

the needle and the damaged done
i dont want to feel this was forever

"Splinttered piece of glass falls in the seat, gets caught"
-I believe that this line refers to putting the needle into your arm
"Broken windows, open locks, reminders of the youth we lost
In trying so hard to look away from you"
-'broken windows, open locks' are the marks and scabs left by the needle, reminding him of all the time that he wasted trying to defeat the habit. Usually when artists refer to heroin, they refer to it as a person, usually a girl.
"We followed white lines to the sunset
Crash my car everday the same way"
-This part I'm not as sure about, but I'm pretty sure that 'we followed white lines' is reffering to coke (speedballing). The sunset is reffering to his "high". 'Crash my car everyday the same way' would mean that he is causing tradgedy in his life the same way everyday by his drug abuse.
"Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)"
-It's time to time to let go of his addiction, however it is a very hard thing to let go of.
"Time runs through our veins
(Starts and stops and starts and stops again)"
-Heroin is a very selfish drug, usually after shooting up, you don't go do something, you sit and waste time enjoying your high. The high (especially while speedballing) gives you a "rush" at first, however comes and goes pariodically. You don't just come down, you come down a bit, you start to feel your high again, and so forth.
"We dont stand a chance in this threadbare time
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time to let this pass
(The time it takes, the time it takes to let go)"
-Withdrawls are a bitch. He feels helpless.
"Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done"
-'staring at the setting sun' refers to comming down. He's not withdrawling as bad anymore, and sees no reason to shoot up again. The rest I think is pretty obvious.
"I dont want to feel this way forever
A dead letter marked, return to sender"
-He doesn't want to continue using forever.
"Broken watch you gave to me turns into a compass
Its two hands still point to the same time 12:03, our last goodbye"
-When you are using/addicted to hard drugs, time really doesn't matter. SWIM use to be an abuser, and at that time, a day was whatever time it took from SWIM coming down to shooting up again (another reason I strongly believe that 'sunrise' is reffering to getting high and 'sunset' refers to coming down).
"So push the seats back a little further
I can see the headlights coming
So push the seats back a little further
Roll the windows down and take a breath
I can see the headlights coming
They paint the world in red and broken glass"
-This section is what truely gave the song away in my mind. Whenever you go to shoot up, You gotta cook it up in the spoon, and suck it into the needle through a cotton. Usually while this is happening you are fiening bad and very anxious. As soon as you start to inject it into your veins, you can feel it slowly start hitting before you are even done. This is usually when SWIM would finally start to relax. If you've ever seen someone shoot up, you probably have seen them lean back and take a deep breath as they begin to zone out. I would assume that by the "headlights" he is reffering to the dope.
"Spinning hubcaps set the tempo for the music of the broken window
Cameras on and the cameras click
We open up the lens and cant stop"
-I could be wrong, but I believe that "Spinning hubcaps" refers to the "spoon". "Cameras on and the cameras click" is sucking it into the needle. And "We open up the lens and cant stop" is the grand finale.
"The lights are on, and the cameras click"
-Everything is cooked and ready, time to get the needle (I also think that cameras click could be reffering to a belt)
"We open up the lens
(The broken glass)"
-The needle (they're sucking the drugs in)
"Staring at the setting sun
(And its over)
No reason to come back again
(In a flash)
The twilight world in blue and white
(Understanding)
The needle and the damage done
(Ill never understand)
I dont want to feel this way forever
(Understanding, in a car crash)
A red letter marked, return to sender
(In a car crash)
In a crash (In a crash)"
-He came down and is regretting getting high, and will never understand why he keeps doing it until he gets high again (understanding in the car crash). When SWIM was a user, SWIM would always wonder to SWIMself, "Why do SWIM keep doing this? Why can't SWIM stop?". But as soon as SWIM would shoot up again SWIM would understand why SWIM needed it so badly.
