Even words less than nothing
Even words less than nothing
Even words less than nothing
Even words less than...

A shade in the falling dusk
Do we ever see

Time spreads so wide
And all we reach is the moment
As narrow as it is
As narrow as it is

Now pay your toll
Here at the banks of the strait
Without a bridge for miles
Can't see across
Copper coin under tongue
To pay your toll
Passage to the ferryman
Bound to the further shore

A shade in the falling dusk
Please let me see

Time spreads so wide
And all we reach is the moment
As narrow as it is
As narrow as it is

Build a vessel
That will not leak
With current so strong
On legs so weak
We must sail with
No wings to speak
Into an unknown
We all must face
Revel, rejoice
Rejoice and wade
Into the dark
Or into the dawn

Can't turn back
Can't stay still and drown
Can't point to a throne
Where you rule
Where you control
River King, River King
Can't turn back
The river flow

Let
Let go of it

Time spreads so wide
And all that we reach is the moment
As narrow as it is
As narrow as it is

    Song Meaning

The nautical and oceanic imagery behind the video for ‘River King‘ is all about weathering a raging storm; about building a sound vessel that won’t spring leaks or ever sink. Despite it’s heaviness and aggression, it’s an inspiring piece about endurance and resolve; about the impermanence of time and those trying, defining moments in our lives that we all one day face. Adding to this, the ways in which vocalist Jesse Zaraska roars lyrics from the heart like “Time spread so wide, and all we reach is the moment” is so gripping.
