Billie Eilish released her new single, “My Future” today. “My Future” dropped on her brother and collaborator Finneas’ 23rd birthday. The song was written at the beginning of the quarantine. It is a song of hope, excitement, self-reflection, and self-growth. “My Future” resonates with listeners in a way it could not otherwise. The song sounds like many of Eilish’s other songs but stands apart in the lyrics. It shows how Eilish has grown up and has developed as an artist. Eilish sings about how she is growing and developing and she “can’t wait to meet her” new self and she is “in love/ but not with anybody else”. The song starts out lonely and melancholy, but as the song goes on the beat picks up and is like sunshine clearing away the clouds. “My Future” is a song that truly showcases how Eilish has developed as a person and an artist. While the pandemic continues, Eilish shows that she is capable of creating powerful music that moves both her and the world around her.
