Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.
If I loved you, life would be easy
There'd be no truth that I'd be scared of
I could walk through every valley
And you'd light me with all of your love
But I don't love you, not like I want to
I don't love you and that makes it hard
And every morning, I see how you watch me
And each night I know you feel it and it just breaks your heart
You'd make good money and come home early
And you'd kiss me and hold me each night
We would have children and they would be so beautiful
And we'd raise them and all would be right
But I don't love you, not like you need it
I don't love you, good as you are
And when I kiss you, I know that you can feel it
And I see it in your eyes, and it just breaks my heart
I wish to God I could change it, darling
Could make you the one
I will always have these regrets and wonder
What else I could have done
I will
'Cause if I loved you, I could be happy
I would make you the light of my world
I wouldn't wait, love, I'd marry you tomorrow
And we'd make love and I'd be your girl
But I don't love you, much as I want to
I don't love you, no, it would be a lie
And you deserve love, you're better than a good day
And you'll find it, but just not in my eyes
'Cause it ain't here love, no
And it just breaks my heart
There'd be no truth that I'd be scared of
I could walk through every valley
And you'd light me with all of your love
But I don't love you, not like I want to
I don't love you and that makes it hard
And every morning, I see how you watch me
And each night I know you feel it and it just breaks your heart
You'd make good money and come home early

I don't love you, good as you are
And when I kiss you, I know that you can feel it
And I see it in your eyes, and it just breaks my heart

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
this song is a rare look into the mind and heart of the person doing the breaking up, in stead of the one being broken. although, the singer is clearly broken by her feelings and torn because although she is not in love, she does care for the person, thus "it just breaks my heart" - it offers some insight into why some people do what they do, and hopefully stands as an example for others to follow, in regards to them not staying in a relationship if they are not in love. it's better to break it off while the relationship is new than to go years down the line and resent each other, because that never ends well. the singer is not leaving the person because she doesn't care for him/her, but because she does.
