There was a time, I used to look into my father's eyes
In a happy home, I was a king I had a golden throne
Those days are gone, now the memories are on the wall
I hear the sounds from the places where I was born

Up on the hill across the blue lake,
That's where I had my first heart break
I still remember how it all changed
My father said
Don't you worry, don't you worry child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah!

Don't you worry, don't you worry child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah!

There was a time, I met a girl of a different kind
We ruled the world,
Thought I'll never lose her out of sight,
We were so young
I think of her now and then
I still hear the songs, reminding me of a friend

Up on the hill across the blue lake,
That's where I had my first heart break
I still remember how it all changed
My father said
Don't you worry, don't you worry child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah!

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry child
See heaven's got a plan for you
Don't you worry, don't you worry now, yeah!

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh!
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh! Yeah

    Memory

I honestly feel like this song completely relates to my life. The lyrics match specific trajedies that have taken place in my young life as a child and as a teenager. This is how this song relates to my life.

My father and I have always been close. I used to live in a "happy home" when I was a young boy with 2 married parents and a sister.

When I was 7-years-old, my parents went through a long and trajic divorce. Although I'm only 17-years-old, those days of being in a "happy home" are gone for me; and I still think about it everyday. (Lyrics Relation: "Those days are gone, and now the memories are on the wall")

My first trajedy was when my parents went through a terrible divorce. (Lyrics Relation: "my first heartbreak")

When my parents got divorced, everything changed for me; I changed schools, changed houses, changed cities, got new friends, got new step parents, and got new step siblings. My father was always there to tell me everything would be ok and that I shouldn't worry because I have my whole life a head of me and that God has a plan for me. (Lyrics Relation: "I still remeber how it all changed. My father said, Don't you worry child, see heaven's got a plan for you.")

Later in life when I was 16-years-old, I met a special girl named Jenn. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. We became friends and started to get feelings for eachother. Even though we didn't know eachother super well, I still loved her, and I thought I'd never lose her. (Lyrics Relation: "I thought I'd never lose her out of sight")

But sadly she lost her feelings for me. When I was at my lakehouse, Jenn completely stopped returning my calls and text messages. While I was at my lakehouse, this went on for about a week. I remember looking across the blue lake with tears in my eyes with the thought that her feelings for me had died. That moment while i was looking across the blue lake was the beginning of my first heartbreak. (Lyrics Relation: "across a blue lake, that's where I had my first heartbreak")

This was a very hard time for me. I had no idea what I did wrong. She wouldn't respond to calls, texts, facebook or anything. A couple of sad weeks later, I remembered that Jenn and I promised we would write eachother a letter for fun because we wanted to be pen pals. I then decided to write Jenn a letter and mail it to her house. In the letter, I asked why she was ignoring me and what I did wrong. I also told Jenn how I felt about her, and that I was sad to see that she no longer cared about me. I mailed the letter. The next day, on September 14, 2012 she wrote me a facebook message that started by saying "Dear Spencer, I got your letter today. It made me cry. From the bottom of my heart I am soooooo sorry. Ignoring you was not the answer to my problems." Later in her message she said "The truth is, I have feelings for someone else. I thought I had moved on but I really didn't! I am really sorry Spencer. You are a great guy." After reading this message, I looked out the window feeling highly depressed. I noticed that the sun was going down over the hill in my neigborhood, so I walked to the top of the hill were I could see the beautiful view of the entire city. While watching the sun go down, I had tears in my eyes and I could stop thinking about her. It was that moment that I knew my heart was broken. I'll never forget that day on the hill, September 14, 2012. Strangely, that was the exact same day that the song 'Don't You Worry Child', was released. I'm dead serious. The same day! My father told me not to worry and that there is a plan for me in life.

The two most memorable moments of my first heartbreak were up on a hill, and across a blue lake. (Lyric Relation: "Up on a hill across a blue lake, that's where I had my first heartbreak")

To this day, I haven't spoken to Jenn in person since August 10th, which is also the same day that Swedish House Mafia made their first LIVE debut of "Don't You Worry Child" Jenn and I no longer talk. We've gone our seperate ways. Sometimes it still hurts walking passed her in the hallway. Even after the way she treated me, and after writing this comparison, I've realized that very deep down, I still have feelings for her.

That is why I believe that this song fits some the trajedies of my young life. Thank you for reading.

P.S. I went to the Swedish House Mafia concert last night and it was SOOOO AMAZINGLY CRAZY!!! :D

I'm shocked that this song has been out for a while and no one's posted on it... This song is awesome. Powerful lyrics, good beat, great song for clubbing, driving, or just losing yourself in the music.

I think the meaning is pretty obvious... It's about people going through tough times in their life... Mainly in this case losing your first love, but it really can be applied to any kind of loss. It's a song meant to empower you to keep pushing forward, living in the world around you, rather than in the pictures on the wall (that is to say, the past).

    My Interpretation

I feel as this song is about someone having many worries about who they will turn out to be, what there life is going to give them ect. But you don't have to worry "heaven's got a plan for you" whether your religious or not you are here on this world for a purpose. The music in between the lyrics just seems has a release of stresses and worries and exploding your freedom to have a good time and enjoy life.

I looked at most of the posts above. That's great that the song reminds you of your own personal memories but to be honest, every song does that and I could really care less about you.

I want to know what the song really means... has anyone done any research on who in the Swedish House Mafia actually wrote the lyrics and if he had a loved one in the past who fell out of love or even passed away (my thoughts is that this loved one passed away).

Then again this is all speculation and I'd like to know the true story behind this song.

    My Interpretation

I have two Ideas about this song:

    1) This song is about the falling of Lucifer from Heaven to Hell. Now I'm not religious, but this idea totally makes sense. The "Father" means God, and the sounds from the places where he was born is the angels singing. The hill upon a blue lake is Heaven, the "lake" being the sky. The happy home, king on a golden throne, heart brake, and Heaven's got a plan for you parts are pretty self explanatory.

    2) This is idea is more original, and by that, no one has had this idea yet about this song. This song might be about a kid who is struggling because his dad died in war. Hear me out here:

"There was a time, I used to look into my father's eyes"

This line shows that he used to see his father, spend time with him, but no more. Maybe his father left or died.

"In a happy home, I was a king I had a golden throne" His life was exceptionally good, he was treated like a king. His life was "perfect", and he felt he had everything going for him.

"Those days are gone, now the memories are on the wall"

His life has taken a turn for the worst, maybe from his dad dying. I feel that his dad might have died because of the part where he says the memories are on the wall. The wall could be referring to the Vietnam War Memorial, and for those who don't know, this is a memorial that is in the form of a long black wall, and on it or the names of all the people who died in the war. Or maybe the wall could be referring to just a wall in his house, where all the family pictures are kept, meaning that he can only see his dad in the pictures, in the memories.

"I hear the sounds, from the places where I was born"

Maybe this boy, now man, is reminiscing about the times when life was good, before he lost his dad. Maybe he thinks back to those times and remembers what life could have been.

"Upon a hill across a blue lake, that's where I had my first heart break"

Now this might be a stretch, but maybe the blue lake is an analogy of all the men coming home in their blue military uniforms, and just the sheer amount of them made it feel like a blue lake. The hill might be the place where all the people awaited their dads or husbands to come home, basically where all the soldiers families stood. This is where he realized his dad wouldn't be coming home, this is his first heart break.

"And my father said, don't you worry don't you worry child, see heaven's got a plan for you..."

After he realizes his dad his gone, he hears his voice in his head, telling him he is okay, that he is in Heaven now. His father might not have actually spoken to him, but it was a voice in the kid's head that was telling him everything was okay, his dad went to a better place (maybe a coping mechanism).

"There was a time, I met a girl of a different kind. We ruled the world, thought I'll never lose her out of sight, we were so young, I think of her now and then, I still hear the songs, reminding me of a friend."

During his times of trouble and mourning, he met a girl (young love), who helped him get through his loss. Because they were so young, they felt like they were invincible (rule the world), and that their love would last forever. As an adult, he thinks of her now and then, and he is reminded that their is still love in the world, and that in all his trouble and sadness, he knows he will always have a friend.

These two make the most sense to me I don't know if maybe one of the members of SHM had a dad who died at war, but I feel like it all makes sense when you look at the lyrics. Anyways, just my two cents.

    My Interpretation

I think this song means that there is always something to save you from tragedies in life. If you have a heartbreak, friends and family are there to help you get through it. I think it also means that you may have had some bad incidents but you should forget about those and remember the good times you had before.

    Song Meaning

This song really is an amazing thing for a simple reason: everyone can relate. Think about, dont you have some super fond memories that seem kind of lost to the depths of time? "There was a time, I used to look into my father's eyes In a happy home, I was a king I had a golden throne" When you were small, your parents assured you that everything will always be ok, you that you can be king of your own world and everything will be happy forever. "Those days are gone, now the memories are on the wall" Your older now and and your wondering what ever happened to that magic of infinite happiness and security you felt when you were young. "I hear the sounds from the places where I was born" For me this is probably the deepest line in the song. You remember everything that used to be. You think of your childhood, stories of happiness and wellbeing. But you look at it now and everything looks empty and cold... "Up on the hill across the blue lake, That's where I had my first heartbreak I still remember how it all changed" Everyone remembers where and when (Hill and lake just being placeholders) their first real tragedy happened and when the veil was pulled off and the magic started to fade ""Don't you worry, don't you worry, child See heaven's got a plan for you Don't you worry, don't you worry now" Yeah!" Your parents tell you everything is allright, your tragedy will blow over, but it never really goes away and your still waiting for "heaven's plan" to carry out "There was a time, I met a girl of a different kind. We ruled the world, I thought I'll never lose her out of sight." The next big part of your life: you meet that special girl (or guy): your first love Your feeling good, your soaring high, how could anything bad happen? "We were so young, I think of her now and then I still hear a song reminding me of a friend" Fast forward to now, she's a distant memory, a bittersweet dream of the past. You occasionaly remember the whole ordeal and think "Wow. That happened..." Then the chorus ensues, with the same where and when of the tragedy (your first real "heartbreak") and waiting for "heaven's plan" The song fades out with that same "heaven's got a plan", giving you a real sense of, "Well, everything wil be clear eventually..."

On a personal note, I have no idea why I feel strongly this is exactly what the song is trying to convey (I'm only 13), or why feel that about 3/4 of my life has followed this song so far, and I'm about to reach the fourth quarter...

This song means a lot to me. My father passed away in Feb and because of some crazy radio stations, this song always seemed to come on whenever I needed to hear it while he was in the hospital before his death. Since then I've used it to remind me of the chorus because it sounds exactly like something he would say. And it was something that he said to me after my big breakup with my now ex-boyfriend after 8 years. The song reminds me of his optimism and that there's more to life than what is going on right now.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
