Stripped to the waist we fall into the river
Cover your eyes so you don't know the secret
I've been trying to hide
We held our breath to see our names are written
On the wreck of '86
That was the year I knew the panic was over
Yeah, since we found out
Since we found out
That anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could
After the war, we said we'd fight together
I guess we thought that's just what humans do
Letting darkness grow
As if we need its palette and we need its color
But now I've seen it through
And now I know the truth
That anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could happen
Anything could
Baby, I'll give you everything you need
I'll give you everything you need, oh
I'll give you everything you need
But I don't think I need you
Stripped to the waist we fall into the river
Cover your eyes so you don't know the secret
I've been trying to hide
We held our breath to see our names are written
On the wreck of '86
That was the year I knew the panic was over

I know it's gonna be
I know it's gonna be
I know it's gonna be

building on the view of ImAndroid, the idea that this song is written from the perspective of Ellie's mother is pure genius. Think about it: Ellie was born in 86, (ie wreck of 86), perhaps the lyric suggests at thev time her parents did not want a second child
The whole of the second verse may refer to friction between her parents that was there before Ellie was born that they tried to put aside for her, but the failure of those attempts (After the war we said we'd fight together I guess we thought that's just what humans do Letting darkness grow As if we need it's palette and we need it's color But now I've seen it through And now I know the truth)
In my eyes the chorus is the acceptance that they have no control over what happens in their lives because that's what destiny is (ie Since we found out that anything could happen)
The Baby i'll give you anything you need is the mother talking to her child, almost like a promise that she won't let anything happen to her baby
Finally the i know it's gonna be part is the mother trying to but failing to accept that life will be hard for her child and the very end where it goes But i don't think i need you is the split of mother and father: she has tried everything to cover over the cracks but she can't do it anymore and has resolved to let it break apart so that she can rebuild
