Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again

Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black where the sirens sing
Warm me up in a nova's glow
And drop me down to the dream below

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see

Bring me home in blinding dream
Through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
And show me how to be whole again

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything there for you to see
For you to see
For you to see
For you to see

My Interpretation:Easily one of Linkin Park's best songs of all time. And of course, this song like most of their songs, is open to interpretation. While many of you agree this song is pretty much centralized on the war with Iraq, I also agree that this song is also intended for anyone who is struggling to deal with the pain they're feeling inside (whether they're battling a war physically or battling a personal war emotionally).

For people like me, this song hits home on a personal level. I've been battling depression for a long time and this song defines what depression is like for me and what I would want to achieve in the end after I overcome it. Thank you Linkin Park. You guys rock.

Song Meaning:I see it as a normal member of society who wants to be part of someting bigger. The castle represents democracy or our government. He is just another voter and another member of society. He says in the lyrics that theres hardly anything there for you to see. He wants to stick out and be a part of something big. The glass represents our fragile government that is based on its people and how one person can effect the whole system. A crack on the glass. He is a soldier (video) who joined the military for hopes of being something great but is tramatized by it. The video is saying that we are all just members of society and should try to achieve something bigger

My Opinion:Okay, forget the video and what the song actually meant. In my opinion this song is a lot more simple then people realize. Basically, some shit has happened in the past. The song is saying that it's only a 'crack' in a massive 'castle' it's not as important as it seems, and you can get over it. Go where you want to go and do what you want to do because your problems don't matter :)

My Interpretation:I admire the ability for LP to write sorrowful songs with such power. It talks about the spiritual desperation and determination to seek inner peace in the modern society where evilness permeates into every aspect of our lives. By the time we realise it, it will be too late because evilness has already gained a strong footing.

(Take me down to the river bend
Take me down to the fighting end
Wash the poison from off my skin
Show me how to be whole again)

This verse simply talks about how the individual wanted to wash away the ideas or materials that have poisoned his life by the use of imagery lyrics of going down to the river bend to wash away the poison (aka sins) that he has committed, almost as if he were to become baptised. Note how he says that he washes the poison off his skin…he knows that he is good natured within but the dirt has covered it.

(Fly me up on a silver wing
Past the black, where the sirens sing
Warm me up in the nova’s glow
and drop me down to the dream below)

This verse is actually tragic in the sense that the individual hopes to seek a better life by flying on a silver wing above all the black sirens but only to find out that it is nothing but a nova’s glow*. After all this hope and seeing a nova’s glow that gave him false hope, he ends up having to return to his dreams which he desperately wants but is probably not possible.

    * A nova (and its glow) is a astronomical phenomenon associated with a white dwarf star. A white dwarf star is a star that is approaching its death and with one last time it glows strongly only to gradually faint into destined darkness in an irreversible manner. The sun in our solar system when exhausted all its nuclear fuel will also become a dwarf star.

('Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything left for you to see
    For you to see)

He pointed out the reality that we live in is nothing but a castle of glass – it looks grand and strong but the glass exposes its fragility and brittleness. This individual is insignificant (one of the many cracks in this castle of glass), almost to the point of being forgotten. Becoming a shell of himself with hardly anything interesting left for you to see.

(Bring me home in a blinding dream,
through the secrets that I have seen
Wash the sorrow from off my skin
and show me how to be whole again)

After seeing the secrets (more likely to be the truth) and blindly chasing a dream that has hindered him from seeking true happiness, he now begs to be brought back to home where life maybe simple but at least not traumatic. He wants to wash away these sorrows that has fragmented him and live and feel like a human again.

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything else I need to be

This has a sarcastic tone saying that he is probably better off just being an crack in the castle of glass which is insignificant and unimportant because he can now at least be himself and seek the simple pleasures in life.

'Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass
Hardly anything left for you to see
    For you to see

    same as above

It also talks about the determination to break free from these illusions and live a life that is true to himself and not chase after the worldly materials that we have been taught to through media influence etc.

The moral of this song to us is reminding us not to be sucked up by seeking materialistic achievement too much or you might just as well realise in end that you lose yourself, which is worse than losing your material possessions. I guess this song tells us how we can be ungrateful with the simple pleasures in life until we have lost it.

My Interpretation:I think beyond the video and the influence of the game MOH the song is about the fragile nature of human beings and how we break in our own "castles", trying to be strongs but being torn to the point of losing what we are or what we think we should have to be or feel.

The first words are somekind of "child cry" trying to scape from himself to the only land we feel confortable: dreams. There, the broke person can talk without the strings of his own fake personality, demanding someone see far the appearance.

My Interpretation:I'll start by giving Linkin Park my appreciation. Without bands like this creating introspective, influential, and unique music, our world would be filled with more Bieber's and Jepsens'.

Many people will attach this song to the Medal of Honor influenced video, but the song was definitely not written with that in mind. I don't think it is about a soldier in the literal sense (but in a metaphorical sense, we are all soldiers).

The lyrics tell me of someone who has been negatively influenced by something external, and something within them has been deeply affected by it. A crack in a castle of glass is a structural weakness, although small, it is a weakness that could threaten the entire structure.

To me, the opening lines set the terms fairly well, "Wash the poison from off my skin, show me how to be whole again."
He wishes to be rejuvenated, cleansed from what has tainted him, and to be full once more.

The second verse is a bit harder for me to interpret, but seems to be regard the person that caused this taint or crack. (this person could also be the singer referring to themself, depending on your interpretation).
Someone offered wonder, security, and/or salvation "fly me up on your silver wing, past the black where the sirens sing"

"Warm me up in the nova's glow" refers to this false hope, a nova is an incredibly destructive force.
"Drop me down to the dream below" - the dream, the illusion, is false, but he asks to be dropped into it, but why?

"Cause I'm only a crack in this castle of glass, hardly anything there for you to see." - Because he is insignificant, small, a tiny crack in an entire castle of glass. A small blemish on a beautiful structure.

The feelings expressed are ones of being insignificant and small, but there's a strange power to it too, perhaps the fact that the castle is made of glass is what proves this. A crack can start small, but with a little pressure it will quickly grow into a much larger one. Perhaps this is the transcendant part of the song, the fact that while this person feels so small and useless, they are in fact a key part to the integrity of the 'castle of glass', which could be a metaphor for a relationship, for society, for life, addiction, you name it.

Linkin Park is a fantastic band, anyone who hates on their music hasn't listened enough. The layering is fantastic. Robot Boy, this song and Burning in the Skies are some of the most powerful songs I've ever had the joy of hearing.
Don't close your mind, let the music free your soul.

General Comment:This song is about a soldier who wants no more of what he has and wants to go home to Heaven. It's also about being imperfect and how humans were made to be imperfect. Yet we all know that perfection is nothing but propaganda from society to bring out the worst in us.

My Interpretation:Well here is what i think the song is about.

its about a Soldier who has seen his share of war and realises everything is not as clear cut as it was painted to him when he was young, and also it is about how it affects not just him but his family aswell and how he wishes to return to them, or something like that in my head its vague but most people might get the idea
