This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Love this song. Such a sweet love song. The "book" that he refers to is a metaphor for life, I think. It's his life and now HIS story has the proper end - "My favorite part is when I die in your arms" - is him imagining growing old together. He wants this person to be there until the end. He has fallen in love and feels alive and in love. Very simple and sweet. :)
@Mandy460 I like your explanation. I also considered that he’s talking about overcoming writer’s block. I write a whole book but the last page which came to him like an apple from his muse. Once he finished the project, he felt alive again.
