They dance like sirens, hoping the sun would come out again
And I was born in the fog of that day
Can they hear a babe over all the faith,
Or have they forgot what it was that they made

Crawled out of the fog, found a river,
Found a log and floated away
Didn't think I'd be coming back this way
But my feet are resolute;
Found their root and brought me back to its place

And on the hill where I was born,
There is no rose but just a thorn;
They cut it off each year and give it away

But can they hear a babe after all these days,
Or have they forgot what it was that they made

So left to wander blind, I find myself in cautious times,
And they say, Love's labor is never lost; labor on to this very day.
So I walk into the fog, found a babe atop a log and all alone
Took him under, took him on,
Taught him everything about the world I'd come to know

And he blames me for every wrong ever he made
I am blamed for every wrong ever he made
Forgive me I am only a maid
Forgive me I am only a maid

But I can see a babe under all that blame
And I am forgot from the day I am laid

    General Comment:My interpretation, which may have an inherit bias:

    A story of a person, raised by parents distracted, by what it's unclear. Hoping the sun would come again, so just by their own problems. Neglected of their love, she leaves but ends up returning in pursuit of the sense of home. Even in returning she is neglected. "There is a rose without a thorn; They cut it off each year and give it away" she offers only her honest love with no "thorns." Yet they cut if off each year and give it away.

    Disillusioned yet still believing in love, has a child and teaches him everything about the world she has come to know. He grows up and blames her for everything he does wrong. Humble and apologetic, she can still see her little boy under all the blame.

    Basically a mother who smothers her child in love to make up for the love she was denied as a child. Spoiled into resentment, the child blames his mother for everything that is wrong with him. Yet she still sees his innocence. Most of our mothers genuinely do the best they can in raising us. If we all weren't so spoiled, we'd be able to see that and stop blaming them for our every flaw that we dont want to be held accountable.

    General Comment:I thought the song was called "Made by Maid".

    Anyway, when i saw her live she explained that this song is about a baby born and left in a forest. It grows up by itself, teaching itself about the things around it. Then it finds its way into the real world, and discovers how different and cruel it is:
    'So left to wander blind, I find myself in cautious times,
    And they say, Loves labour is never lost; labour on to this very day.'
    So it goes back to the forest, and there it finds another baby:
    'So I walk into the fog, found a babe atop a log and all alone'
    and teaches it everything they know about the world,
    'Took him under, took him on,
    Taught him everything about the world I'd come to know'

    beautiful song.

    So beautiful! This album is really amazing, and amazingly mature for someone who barely turned 20! Looking forward to it actually coming out!
