As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding?
So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony
'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so funny 'bout peace love and understanding? Oh
What's so fun about peace, love and understanding?
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?
And each time I feel like this inside
There's one thing I wanna know:

Not ONE comment on this singer and band? WOW.
I saw them live in some town in Southern France in 1984...
Love his first few albums up to "Clubland"
I guess the stuff that moves me means nothing to this dead world. It makes me a little sad - but I definitely feel vindicated at the same time. Every word of this song is gold. Pure gold. Elvis C. is a great lyricist.
He actually is as good as you say, only this song wasn't written by him, but by his longtime friend and early influence Nick Lowe, at the time he was still the leader of the pub rock band Brinsley Schwartz.<br /> It's about the end of the hippie era and how futile, lonesome, sad and hopeless the world became again after the flash of light of the 60's began to fade away. One of the most moving songs I ever heard.
