We're off the rails, now we are trains ourselves No wait and see, we're off this place Doesn't mean we're somewhere else This is all I know, sitting still to watch The engines come and go

General Comment:I can't believe no one has commented! I think this is one of the notwist's most complex songs. It's brief, but there's so much meaning packed in so few lines.

"We're off the rails, now we are trains ourselves"
sets up the analogy of individuals to trains. Their trains have derailed, and their relationship has stalled?

"We're off this place, doesn't mean we're somewhere else"
Just because they've stalled/broken up, it's not because he's found someone better or had a reason. It just stopped, and now he's in limbo. Just empty and without connection.

"This is all I know, sitting still to watch the engines come and go."
He's stuck in that place, quietly watching other people passing by. He wants to get back on track and fall back in love, but nothing is happening.
