We met by chance along the Roe River side
our salt fire danced as our tea leaves dried
she hatched our plans in the atmospheric tides

Fortune Teller: Let's give up 'sacrifice' next Lent"
Rabbit: Eh, that joke's long since been spent!"

But as the Fool on the bagpipes played
we kept cool in the parasol shade
your thumb on my page at my tender age
east enders wives
Then hidden in the boxthorn vine
We grew old as the foxtail pine
sheep in the fold gilding our gold
sipping our milk and water lives
she packed our bags some arbitrary time
(by the time he wakes up I'll be gone)
then waved like a flag from the White Star Line
(Queensland our next stop, he'll be gone)
unmoored unwell though I seldom elegize
(you still see who I once was)
we've both been untrue but i'm still counting on you like an invisible rosary
And as the past and our plans are undone,
slowly sank like the shipwrecked sun
bridges and boats burning them both
burned up the sky

choir sang as the Black Birch fell
sorrow rang like a church yard bell
an axe to the trees smoke for the bees
all our dads died.

General Comment:is there a reason that Fool is capitalized? is he referencing the song by Neutral Milk Hotel?

General Comment:the White Star Line is the cruise company that owned the Titanic, so saying that she waved like a flag from the White Star Line means that she is leaving and is never coming back.

General Comment:Apparently, some fortune tellers use rabbits as part of their schtick. travelbelles.com/2010/09/01/istanbuls-bosphorus-bunny-fortune-teller/

Lyric Correction:Corrections from lyric booklet. The line and stanza scheme is makeshift as the lyric booklet just has all the lines together in one big paragraph.

General Comment:I updated what I think the lyrics are, and wow I was wrong the first time (they were based off a live performance).

If anyone has any fixes let me know so I can update them

As far as the meaning goes, apparantly the song is about a fortune teller and a rabbit falling in love, but from the lyrics its hard to figure it out. Does this song somehow represent Aaron and Amanda's relationship? That's what Fox's Dream was about.

Lyric Correction:I think its "lets give up sacrifice next *lent*"
    and
"im still counting on you like an invisible rosary" sounds like he adds an extra syllable, but rosaryness doesn't make much sense. i think he might just be adding a quick "and as" making the next line: "and as the past and all plans are undone" like mroldan1993 said.

I can't quite piece this one together, they said it's about a runaway rabbit and his love affair with a lusty soothsayer... but i don't think i'm quite getting it. Anybody have any interpretations? I can't understand the hushed background vocals, I wonder if those lines would clear things up. Anyway... can't wait for the cd and the full lyrics!

General Comment:East Enders Wives (not sure about some lines near the end)

We met by chance on the row riverside
our songfire danced as our tea leaves dried
she hatched our plans in the atmospheric tide
said lets give up sacrifice next lend

so as the pull on the bagpipes played
we kept cool in the parasol shade
your thumb on my page at my tender age
    east enders wives

Then hidden in the box storm blind
We grew old as the foxtail pine
sheep in the fold gilding our gold
sipping our milk and water lines

she packed our bags some arbitrary time
then waved like a flag from the white star line
unmoored unwell though i seldom elegize
weve both been untrue but im still counting on you like an invisible rosaryness

the past and our plans are undone
slowly sank like a shipwrecked sun
*bridges and boats turning them both
    burned up the sky

choir sang as the black birch fell
sorrow rang like the church yard bells
*axed the trees so for the bees
    all our dads died
