You said I was the most exotic flower
Holding me tight in our final hour
I don't know how you convince them and get them, boy
I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable
And I don't know how you get over, get over
Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you

One for the money and two for the show
I love you, honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go
How did you get that way? I don't know
You're screwed up and brilliant
Look like a million dollar man
So why is my heart broke?

You got the world but, baby, at what price?
Something so strange, hard to define
It isn't that hard, boy, to like you or love you
I'd follow you down, down, down, you're unbelievable
If you're going crazy just grab me and take me
I'd follow you down, down, down, anywhere, anywhere

One for the money and two for the show
I love you, honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go
How did you get that way? I don't know
You're screwed up and brilliant
Look like a million dollar man
So why is my heart broke?

One for the money and two for the show
I love you, honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go
How did you get that way? I don't know
You're screwed up and brilliant
Look like a million dollar man
So why is my heart broke?

I don't know
You're screwed up and brilliant
Look like a million dollar man
So why is my heart broke?

I had a boyfriend for a year and a half. I had fallen--not just for him, but into a world of dark depression. Sometimes, he was the reason for my suicidal planning. But more often then not, he was my savior. I needed him to save me. To love me. To support me. I needed him for me to stay sane. I loved him because I needed him. I needed him because I loved him. He was a true addiction.

"It isn't that hard boy to like you or love you I'd follow you down down down, You're unbelievable If you're going crazy just grab me and take me I'd follow you down down down, anywhere anywhere"

But that's the thing with addictions: first, they put heaven in your brain. Then, they put hell in your heart.

    "You're screwed up and brilliant"

And eventually, it withered me. And eventually, I went crazy. And eventually, I was sure there was no way he loved me the way I loved him. Actually, I was quite sure he didn't love me at all. So I broke up with him. Not even for my benefit. Not even because I knew it was time for me to quit my addiction. I did it for him. Because I thought he would be happier without me.

"And I don't know how you get over, get over Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you"

And now, seeing how he's healed and smiling while I'm left high and blank, I can say it looks like I was right.

"Look like a million dollar man, So why is my heart broke?"

Having just bought this album I was immediately entranced by this song, particularly because of my current predicament. I’m in love with a guy who when I’m with, makes me feel like I’m the most special person in the world. I feel like I’m the ‘only one’ so those first 2 lines ring true:

You said I was the most exotic flower Hold me tight in our final hour

The rest of the song is exactly how I feel, the guy is amazing, brilliant, confident, intelligent, everyone else adores him and here I am, ready to be with him. Like some kind of wizard, he’s cast a spell over me and everyone else.

I don't know how you convince them and get them, boy I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable

But he definitely has flaws and a dark side, one minute we’re having an amazing time, then I don’t hear from him for ages. Even though he’s a ‘million dollar man’, he’s still managing to slowly break my heart. I wish I could just end things and 'quit him' but he’s like a drug that I’m totally addicted to. I’d do anything for this supposedly amazing guy.

So why is my heart broke?

I don't know, You're screwed up and brilliant, Look like a million dollar man, So why is my heart broke?

Lana and i are very similar. She writes these breathtaking, devastating songs about the man who changed her life. He may have been mixed up and confused, but somewhere in the back of her mind she'll always be waiting for him to come back. She longs for a love that could compare to what they had. Her heart may heal, but she will always be his. It's a truly beautiful thing to experience. Devastating, yes, but it produced an amazing album.

"You said I was the most exotic flower Holding me tight in our final hour" he's good with words. compliments here, makes her feel the sexiest she's ever felt

"I don't know how you convince them and get them, but I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable" he can get anyone to do anything. people just love him because there is something straight up magical about his presence. everyone wants, respects & listens to him. "And I don't know how you get over, get over Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you" he's destroyed & dark like her, complicated, twisted, damaged, just like her. she doesnt know how to get over someone who gets her darkness, and whose darkness is so intriguing and mysterious that she cant help but be in love with it and everything else about him.

"One for the money, and two for the show I love you honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go How did you get that way? I don't know You're screwed up and brilliant, Look like a million dollar man, So why is my heart broke?" he's also rich and successful. he can afford her. shes in love with him for him and his heart, not his money, but thats nice too. he looks sexy and expensive and that makes her want him. theres a double entendre in the last two lines though. "you look like a million dollar man so why is my heart broke?" she doesnt say broken (which would be grammatically correct) she says broke, which means her heart is broken and broke...it has nothing left. like a millionaire who goes broke.

"You got the world but baby at what price? Something so strange, hard to define" he worked his life away to succeed. he whored himself out, gave up everything he is to get where he is---successful. now he has money that he essentially gave his life for and hes broken and destroyed because of it. it's hard to define because she doesnt know what parts of himself he lost in pursuit of his success. he's just missing certain elements of normality because he gave up normality and sanity for success.

"It isn't that hard boy to like you or love you I'd follow you down down down, You're unbelievable If you're going crazy just grab me and take me I'd follow you down down down, anywhere anywhere" shes saying hes crazy but she loves him so much that shes like whatever, go crazy & take me with you. i'll love you and be crazy with you, by your side, forever.

i know every feeling in this song. what she means, how her heart is broken and how she just cant let go even though hes crazy & dark. she cant let go even though she knows she should. she just loves him. thats all.

    My Interpretation

I think that the song is about her falling in love for a guy that she knows is playing her. Maybe she was using him as well (at first), they were using each other because they were tired of past relationships, maybe just as a rebound. But her playing is over, she really is falling for him, but now her heart's broke because he hasn't fallen in love for her like she has for him.

You said I was the most exotic flower Holding me tight in our final hour

This was when theyre both immersed in their superficial relationship. The guy is perfect for words, he knows just what to say to make them all feel special, but thats the thing, its just something he says, not something said specially for her.

I don't know how you convince them and get them, but I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable

She thought she wouldn't fall for him because at the beginning she was just aiming for something superficial, she doesnt know what he did to make her fall for him when that was not her objective. Not only her, but the rest of the girls; hence the "them".

And I don't know how you get over, get over Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you

She accepts that she has developed feelings for him. He's dangerous because hes perfect, he's tainted by his past relationships and probably thats why he's like this now, a full-on player. But at the same time he's flawless, because she has fallen for him, and no one is perfect until you fall in them.

One for the money, and two for the show I love you honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go How did you get that way? I don't know You're screwed up and brilliant, Look like a million dollar man, So why is my heart broke?

I take it like if she's scoring the guy's actions. One point for the money, (maybe he really has a lot of money, or maybe its symbolism for concrete rewards, for the kisses, the sex or the dates) two points for the show, (for pretending he likes her, or loves her, but its just part of an act, because he really doesnt love her). She acts like she loves him as well because that what they had agreed, only her feelings arent an act anymore, she actually has them. She cant believe she has fallen for him because she swore to herself she wouldn't get into another relationship, so she is confused as to why she has left her guard down, So why is my heart broke?

You got the world but baby at what price? Something so strange, hard to define

Now shes trying to try to convince him. Yeah, he has love and sex from many different girls but at what price? what is he really doing to these girls or to himself? will he always be cold and hold his heart in a golden cage?

It isn't that hard boy to like you or love you I'd follow you down down down, You're unbelievable If you're going crazy just grab me and take me I'd follow you down down down, anywhere anywhere

Shes crazy for him. She's willing to keep her feelings to herself, just to follow him, anywhere, even down to the point where she'll hide her feelings in sake of keeping his fake love she feels is so real.

Maybe this is just my situation though

    Song Meaning

This song is about her bad boy. It's a song of admiration for his life, career, art, and skill. He has a power over people, her specifically, that she can't understand. She knows he's bad and wrong, yet she's absolutely captivated. I thinks he definitely knows she needs to escape, but again can't. Then, she uses one of the most clever puns she has ever used: "You look like a million dollar man, so why is my heart broke?" At first I was like, "Ugh, Lana, your grammar is awful!" but then I realized it is intentional. Meaning, all the money in the world can't buy happiness; she still feels empty and meaningless. I love that! The same idea is in the second verse: "You got the whole world, but, baby, at what price?" She will follow him anywhere, regardless of what it costs her.

    My Interpretation

“You said I was the most exotic flower Holding me tight in our final hour” He “said”, so it is in past tense. Perhaps this is one of the many sweet things he carelessly told her but it remained in her mind and heart. But even though this is in past tense, I think they are still together.

“I don't know how you convince them and get them, but I don't know what you do, it's unbelievable And I don't know how you get over, get over Someone as dangerous, tainted and flawed as you” This man is very persuasive, sly, and good with his words. I don’t know how you “Convince them” refers to how she doesn’t know what he does or what he says to convince other women to be with him, despite him being already in a relationship or possibly even married. She says he is dangerous, tainted, and flawed because of everything he is capable of doing so easily (hurting her by lying, cheating, etc.) and in spite of it all, she can still be so in love with him. “…I don’t know how you get over, get over…” She is just questioning because she finds it impossible for herself to get over it.

“One for the money, and two for the show I love you honey, I'm ready, I'm ready to go” This man is also someone with wealth and status. Aside from still being madly in love with him, there are two more reasons that she convinced herself to believe as the reasons to why she is doing this to herself and still in this painful relationship. It sounds stupid to still be in love with or cling onto someone who doesn’t love you anymore so she convinces herself that it is okay because she is only staying for the sake of his money and status. One for his money, secondly for the show as in ‘status’… or maybe an alternative interpretation –keeping a relationship even just for “show”, as outsiders don’t know what their relationship really is like at home. So she rather keep things that way because she is in denial and unwilling to accept what their reality is like, a broken relationship. “I love you honey, I’m ready, I’m ready to go” – Either way, she can’t control her feelings; she loves him… so she is ready to go anywhere with him, meaning she will stay by his side.

“How did you get that way? I don't know You're screwed up and brilliant, Look like a million dollar man, So why is my heart broke?” She doesn’t know how/why he changed… probably because he wasn’t like this when they first met and fell in love. She says he is screwed up and brilliant at the same time because despite being smart and successful, his character and personality is so terribly flawed. That is the reason why he looks like a million dollar man –because to people who don’t know him personally on her level, he has everything: wealth, status, success, etc. When she asks, “so why is my heart broke?”, she means why does she still feel so empty inside despite being in a relationship with someone who is an everything-package, or a “million dollar man”? (When she says “broke”, it should be related to the million-dollar-man line, so in that context, broke means “no money” rather than heartbroken. But “million dollar man” meant that he was promising and had content… so the word “broke” in reference to her heart would mean lacking content, in other words, empty.)

“You got the world but baby at what price? Something so strange, hard to define” She is asking him what he gave up and sacrificed for this life of success. The things we would do and the things we would sacrifice for money and success can definitely be “strange” or “hard to define” because we’re all a little crazy for wealth and status in this realistic and capitalistic world… some a little more crazy than others.

“It isn't that hard boy to like you or love you I'd follow you down, down, down, You're unbelievable If you're going crazy just grab me and take me I'd follow you down, down, down, anywhere, anywhere” This part just basically expresses how much she loves him… because she’d follow him anywhere, even if he is destructive in his ways and goes downwards (going through the downs in life). And although he might have a terrible personality or treats her terribly, she still tells him he isn’t hard to like or love (because she is already in love with him and blinded by her emotions and feelings for him). She reminds him that in times of darkness, or when he is “going crazy”, to take her with him because she is still willing to stay by him no matter what.

Overall, I feel like this song depicts the strong feelings this woman still has for her man despite knowing that he has already changed. While they may still be together physically, she feels empty in her heart because mentally and emotionally, he isn’t there. His feelings changed and his heart isn’t there anymore. She knows it; she knows his heart isn’t there anymore but still she cannot let go because she loves him too much. It hurts to stay by his side but it hurts even more to let go and lose him completely… So she stays in this unhealthy relationship reminiscing on the time when he still told her sweet things and said she was the most exotic flower, a happy memory she holds really dear. While staying by his side physically, she is mentally in her own world and lying to herself to cope with the depression.

I just met this amazing girl... she has a complicated situation I'm totally aware of and we definitely can't be together not now nor never... it's very complicated. Still, when I'm with her, it's totally the best time of my life, when I wake up, I feel like high school sweethearts waiting for make contact with her. Just listening to her voice makes my day.

So, is sad when we meet and then in the end we must set aside apart... I'm falling from her, I've heard this song like 80 times, maybe 8 in a row.

    My Interpretation

For me, it's about a prostitute loving her abusive client. He is a psychopath and only wants to hook up with her and buys her with his money because he's so rich and stuff. She knows for a fact that he can't be trusted and she should stay away from him, but it's too late cause' she had fallen for him. And so she's ready to go with him anywhere he wants her to and she will do whatever he wants.

I get out of this song is that she was madly in love with this guy. this guy was strange, unlike the others. Treated her great but also very morbid and broken. Sometimes people are with someone because they love the flaws and want to fix them. We feel like they need us just as much as they need us. This man broke her heart, she cant get over it. She loves all his screwed up and brilliantness cuz thats she loved every part of him.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
