Maybe it's bricks and mortar now, whether or not they run it down
I don't want anything to shake that shape away
No one told us which way to come, nobody mapped oblivion
So I go growing roses in disarray

Just like most, falling head in
'Til my ghost fills the bed in
So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me
Like a banner

I don't need fate to give it time, it doesn't toke pain to change your
Mind no weapon con sever the soul from me not the sorceress, not the money
All my cleverness, all my cunning so lift up like a banner
Hold it up over me if this war is never ending

I'll take this love down with me
Like a banner
It's around me in my surroundings
It counts me when it starts the counting
In the chaos there is a standard
I'm carrying it like a banner

So lift it up like a banner
Hold it up over me
If this war is never ending
I'll take this love down with me

General Comment:It could ave any meaning depending on how the person relates to the song, that's what makes it such an amazing song. c: I personally feel the lyrics are about having strength, and ambition to do what's right.

And also, in the music video she is carrying a white banner

My Interpretation:I think that there are MANY interpretations of this song.

Firstly, a 'banner' could be many things:
It could be a white banner which means surrendering
It could be a banner of protest; standing up for what you believe in and fighting for it
It could be a banner symbolising peace, which also goes back to the idea of surrendering
It could also be a metaphorical banner, one which shows a change in someone's life. Like if someone wishes to change their life for the better good.

Secondly, 'nobody mapped Oblivion' is clearly an Elder Scrolls reference. Evidence that this could be true is that I've seen LIGHTS tweeting about both Oblivion and Skyrim.

It is also clear that this is a song about standing up for what you believe in, which also goes back to my point about protest.

General Comment:I don't know if I was the only one who caught the Elder Scrolls reference, but when you're in Oblivion, there's no accurate map to help guide you. You're kind of left on your own to find the sigil stone and close the oblivion gate. Anyway, that's what I caught from the song. Yeah for nerdy references!

General Comment:Reminds me of Pslam 20:5
"We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God."

She's a Christian, and i can definitely see this song as being inspired by her faith.

General Comment:I really love this song. I think it has a lot of meaning. It sounds like she has a strength and a certainty that nothing can shake. Not evil (witchcraft, sorcery) or money (greed, fame). She believes in the existence of a soul and the importance of keeping that soul intact in a world of chaos.

No one tells you which way to go in your life, you just have to find it and be strong in yourself. The line about growing roses in disarray to me means having your own idea of optimism and happiness, away from the world. In disarray could mean craziness, so maybe a fun, childlike activity, growing roses all around for fun.

Her banner represents her will to fight I suppose, and her strength in something bigger than her and the negativity in the world. No matter what happens, even if the world runs her down, she will take this love and strength down with her, never really losing in the end.
